Abstract:A new eremophilane sesquiterpene, capnodiumone (1), along with five known eremophilane sesquiterpenes (2-6) and eight other compounds (7-14), have been isolated from a mangrove-associated fungus Capnodium sp. SZ-F22. The chemical structures were elucidated on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analysis. The broth extract of the fungus exhibited a good inhibitory effect on the mycelium growth against Fusarium graminearum at 100g/mL, however, all the 14 compounds showed no expected antifungal activity. Abstract:Four new compounds, maninsigins A-D (1-4), including two new neolignans (1-2) and two new sesquiterpenes (3-4), as well as ten known compounds (5-14), were isolated from the leaves and stems of Manglietia insignis. Their structures were established on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analyses. In addition, some compounds were tested for their cytotoxic and neurite outgrowth-promoting activities, as well as their antagonistic activity toward FXR ligand.

Abstract:Chemical investigation of the EtOAc extract of an insect-associated fungus Letendraea sp. 5XNZ4-2 cultured in Potato Dextrose Broth (1/2 PDB) medium lead to the isolation of three new polyketides, named letendronol D (1), phomopsiketones H-I (2-3). The structures of new compounds were elucidated by the analysis of HRESIMS and NMR spectroscopic data, and the absolute configurations were determined by modified Mosher’s method, ECD calculation and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Cytotoxicity and antibacterial activities of 1 were assayed and regrettably 1 didn’t display any cytotoxicity and antibacterial activity. 3 was the first phomopsiketone derivative obtaining the lactone.

Abstract:Linderaggrenolides A–N (1–14), 14 new lindenane sesquiterpenoid dimers with oxygen bridges were isolated from the roots of Lindera aggregata. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of comprehensive spectroscopic data analysis, with the absolute configurations established by empirical approaches, electronic circular dichroism calculations, and X-ray crystallography. Compounds 8 and 9 were found to exhibit significant transforming growth factor-β inhibitory activity, with IC50 values of 25.91 and 21.52 μM, respectively.This article has not yet been cited by other publications.

Abstract:Fifteen undescribed dimeric sesquiterpenoids, linderanoids A-O along with one known lindenane-type sesquiterpenoid dimer, lindenaneolide F, were isolated and identified from the roots of Lindera aggregata. Their structures and absolute configurations were elucidated using spectroscopy and electronic circular dichroism (ECD) analysis. All the isolated compounds were screened for transforming growth factor (TGF)-β inhibitory activity, and the results showed that linderanoid E significantly inhibited the TGF- β induced smad2 phosphorylation at a concentration of 25 μM.

Abstract:Fourteen new ent-abietane-type diterpenoids, sessilifols A-N (1-14), and three related new norditerpenoids (15-17) were isolated from Chloranthus sessilifolius. The absolute configurations were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, the modified Mosher's method, and/or the observed Cotton effects in their electronic circular dichroism spectra. Sessilifols A (1) and B (2) possess an uncommon five-membered C-ring rearranged by oxidative cleavage of the C-13/C-14 bond in abieta-7,13-diene followed by the formation of a new C-C bond between C-12 and C-14. Sessilifol C (3) is a rare 7,8-seco-9-spiro-fused ent-abietane, whereas sessilifol O (15) represents the first example of a naturally occurring 14-norabietane-type diterpenoid. Compounds 6 and 9 were found to have moderate antineuroinflammatory activities by inhibiting the nitric oxide production in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated murine BV-2 microglial cells, with IC50 values of 8.3 and 7.4 mu M, respectively.

Abstract:Three new (psganpenes A-C), one known eremophilane sesquiterpene and one newrelated derivative (psganpene D) were isolated from the culture of endophytic fungus Nemania sp. HDF-Br-5, which derived from Pseudotsuga gaussenii Flous, anendangered conifer endemic to China. Their structures were deduced by extensive spectroscopic methods. All isolates were screened for cytotoxicity and antibacterial activity. Psganpene D showed promising cytotoxicity against KB, HCT116 and Hela cell strains, with IC50 values in the range of 15.1-32.3 mu M.

Abstract:Two new dimeric lindenane-type sesquiterpenoids (1 and 2, named chlorasessilifols A and B, resp.), one new ent-podocarpane-type C17 norditerpenoid (3), and one new ent-torarane-type diterpenoid (4), along with seven known terpenoids, were isolated from the whole plant of Chloranthus sessilifolius. The new structures were established by means of spectroscopic methods and/or observed cotton effects in the circular dichroism spectra. Among the isolates, 3α,7β-dihydroxy-ent-abieta-8,11,13-triene (11) exhibited significant anti-neuroinflammatory activity by inhibiting the nitric oxide production in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated murine BV-2 microglial cells, with an IC50 value of 4.3 μM.

Abstract:Three isopimarane diterpenes [fladins B (1), C (2), and D (3)] were isolated from the twigs and leaves of Chinese folk medicine, Isodon flavidus. The chemical structures were determined by the analysis of the comprehensive spectroscopic data, and the absolute configuration was confirmed by X-ray crystallographic analysis. The structures of 1–3 were formed from isopimaranes through the rearrangement of ring A by the bond break at C-3 and C-4 to form a new δ-lactone ring system between C-3 and C-9. This structure type represents the first discovery of a natural isopimarane diterpene with an unusual lactone moiety at C-9 and C-10. In the crystal of 1, molecules are linked to each other by intermolecular O-H···O bonds, forming chains along the b axis. Compounds 1–3 were evaluated for their bioactivities against different diseases. None of these compounds displayed cytotoxic activities against HCT116 and A549 cancer cell lines, antifungal activities against Trichophyton rubrum and T. mentagrophytes, or antiviral activities against HIV entry at 20 μg/mL (62.9–66.7) μM. Compounds 1 and 3 did not show antiviral activities against Ebola entry at 20 μg/mL either; only 2 was found to show an 81% inhibitory effect against Ebola entry activity at 20 μg/mL (66.7 μM). The bioactivity evidence suggested that this type of compound could be a valuable antiviral lead for further structure modification to improve the antiviral potential.

Abstract:The polar extract of the Dendrobium species or F. fimbriata (a substitute of Dendrobium), between the fat-soluble extract and polysaccharide has barely been researched. This report worked on the qualitative and quantitative studies of polar extracts from D. nobile, D. officinale, D. loddigesii, and F. fimbriata. Eight water-soluble metabolites containing a new diglucoside, flifimdioside A (1), and a rare imidazolium-type alkaloid, anosmine (4), were identified using chromatography as well as spectroscopic techniques. Their contents in the four herbs were high, approximately 0.9⁻3.7 mg/g based on the analysis of quantitative nuclear magnetic resonance (qNMR) spectroscopy. Biological activity evaluation showed that the polar extract of F. fimbriata or its pure component had good antioxidant and neuroprotective activity; compounds 1‒4 and shihunine (8) showed weak α-glucosidase inhibitory activity; 4 and 8 had weak anti-inflammatory activity. Under trial conditions, all samples had no cytotoxic activity.

Abstract:The phytochemical investigation of the stems of Fissistigma retusum (H.Lév.) Rehder led to the isolation of a new phenolic derivative methyl 3-hydroxy-2,4- dimethoxybenzoate (1), together with three known phenolic derivatives (2–4) and five know sesquiterpene derivatives (5–9), 2,3,4-trihydroxybenzoic acid (2), isovanillic acid (3), 3,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid (4), (+)-dehydrololiolide (5), (E)-4-(r-1′,t-2′,c-4′-trihydroxy-2′,6′,6-′trimethylcyclohexyl)but-3-en-2-one (6), (+)-boscialin (7), 8′-oxodihydrophaseic acid (8), and dihydrophaseic acid (9). Structure elucidations of these compounds were performed on the basis of NMR spectral data and MS. All compounds were isolated from the F. retusum for the first time. The chemotaxonomic significance of the isolates was also discussed.

Abstract:An ethanol extract of the powdered twigs of Podocarpus imbricatus afforded 14 new diterpenoids (1–14), which all share an aromatized C ring. These isolates belong to five diterpenoid types that include abietanes (1–3), semperviranes (4–9), totaranes (10–12), a C-17 norabietane (13), and an icetexane (14). Their structures were assigned mainly by analysis of the spectroscopic data, and the absolute configuration of 1 was determined by X-ray crystallography. A biosynthetic pathway for five of the biogenetically related types of diterpenoids was proposed.
