Abstract:Abstract A Rh-catalyzed electrochemical vinylic C–H annulation of acrylamides with alkynes has been developed in an undivided cell, affording cyclic products in good to excellent yield. Divergent syntheses of α-pyridones and cyclic imidates are accomplished by employing N-phenyl acrylamides and N-tosyl acrylamides as substrates, respectively. Additionally, excellent regioselectivities are achieved when using unsymmetrical alkynes. This electrochemical process is environmentally benign compared to traditional transition metal-catalyzed C–H annulations because it avoids the use of stoichiometric metal oxidants. DFT calculations elucidated the reaction mechanism and origins of substituent-controlled chemoselectivity. The sequential C–H activation and alkyne insertion under rhodium catalysis leads to the seven-membered ring vinyl-rhodium intermediate. This intermediate undergoes either the classic neutral concerted reductive elimination to produce α-pyridones, or the ionic stepwise pathway to produce cyclic imidates.

Abstract:A Cp*Rh-III-catalyzed annulative carbooxygenation of challenging 1,1-disubstituted alkenes triggered by C-H activation of N-aryloxyacetamides has been established, which affords 2,3-dihydrobenzofuran derivatives with a quaternary carbon center in good to excellent yields under mild redox-neutral conditions. An amide group on the alkenes is essential for the process, and may inhibit the beta-H elimination from C(sp3)-Rh species by saturating the rhodium center through coordination. Furthermore, mechanistic insights obtained from control experiments suggest a mechanism involving a Rh-III-Rh-V-Rh-III catalytic cycle.

Abstract:Despite the current progress achieved in asymmetric hydroacylations, highly enantioselective catalytic addition of unfunctionalized aldehydes to internal alkenes remains an unsolved challenge. Here, using a coordination-assisted strategy, we developed a rhodium-catalyzed regio- and enantioselective addition of unfunctionalized aldehydes to internal alkenes such as enamides and β,γ-unsaturated amides. Valuable α-amino ketones and 1,4-dicarbonyl compounds were directly obtained with high enantioselectivity from readily available materials.

Abstract:A direct ethynylation reaction between N-vinylacetamides and (bromoethynyl)triisopropylsilane catalyzed by palladium is reported. A broad scope of cyclic N-vinylacetamide derivatives was tolerated and the corresponding products could be obtained in acceptable yields. This work provides a general tool for the synthesis of conjugated enyne products using palladium(II) acetate as catalyst. The mild reaction conditions and reasonable results should make this method a useful synthetic protocol. Unfortunately, other bromo-substituted alkynes are found to be unreactive and could not afford the desired products under the current reaction conditions.

Abstract:Herein, we report the first example of Rh-catalyzed C(sp 2 )–H difluoroallylation of α,β-unsaturated amides with 3-bromo-3,3-difluoropropene under mild conditions. The features of this protocol for difluoroallylation are unprecedented vinylic substrates, ethanol as a green solvent, good functional group and air compatibility, and scale-up synthesis with low catalyst loading.
