Abstract:Efficient copper-catalyzed 1,2-difunctionalization of alkenes with commercially available BrCH2Cl as a chloromethylating source was carried out, in which mild conditions, high reactivity, excellent functional-group tolerance, and late-stage modification of a bioactive molecule are demonstrated. This strategy offers a solution for the diverse syntheses of nitrogen-containing terminal alkyl chlorides, a common synthetic handle that is promising for multiple derivatizations. Mechanistic studies indicate that a chloromethyl radical is involved in the catalytic cycle.

Abstract:A metal-free 1,4-allylation of azadienes with allyltrimethylsilanes catalyzed by B(C6F5)(3) has been developed. The high Lewis acidity, good thermal stability, and good hydrolytic stability of the catalyst make this reaction efficient and operationally simple. In contrast to the previously reported 1,2-allylation of alpha,beta-unsaturated imines, the 1,4-allylation of azadienes is described here for the first time. Benzofuran-, indene-, dihydronaphthalene-, chromene-, and benzothiophene-based allyl arylmethanes have been obtained in up to 95 % yield.

Abstract:Rh(III)-catalyzed meta-C-H functionalization reactions are still rare. Herein, we report the first example of Rh(III)-catalyzed meta-C-H alkenylation with disubstituted alkynes directed by a U-shaped nitrile template. Exclusive regio-selectivity has been achieved using unsymmetrical aryl and alkyl-disubstituted alkynes to afford synthetically valuable trisubstituted olefins. Propargyl alcohols are also compatible, affording complex allylic alcohols. Notably, transition metal-catalyzed meta-alkenylation with alkynes has not been successful with Pd catalysts.

Abstract:A catalytic 1,2‐oxyhalogenation method that converts non‐conjugated internal alkynes into tetrasubstituted alkenes with high regio‐ and stereoselectivity is described. Mechanistically, the reaction involves a Pd II /Pd IV catalytic cycle that begins with a directed oxypalladation step. The origin of regioselectivity is the preference for formation of a six‐membered palladacycle intermediate, which is facilitated by an N,N‐bidentate 2‐(pyridin‐2‐yl)isopropyl (PIP) amide directing group. Selectivity for C(alkenyl)−X versus −N (X=halide) reductive elimination from the Pd IV center depends on the identity of the halide anion; bromide and iodide engage in C(alkenyl)−X formation, while intramolecular C(alkenyl)−N reductive elimination occurs with chloride to furnish a lactam product. DFT calculations shed light on the origins of this phenomenon.

Abstract:The allylation of 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds and malononitrile with aliphatic allylic substrates is achieved under mild conditions in the presence of new ruthenium catalysts. The ruthenium complex [Ru(C5Me5)(2-quinolinecarboxylato)(CH2CHCH-n-Pr)] [BF4] as a precatalyst, allows the synthesis of mono-allylated branched derivatives. On the other hand, the parent complex [Ru(C5Me5)(MeCN)(3)] [PF6] as a precatalyst, straightforwardly favours the bis-allylation of the procarbonucleophiles leading to bis-allylated bislinear products. The involvement of the two precatalysts provides a sequential synthesis of unsymmetrical mixed linear-branched bis-allylated derivatives.

Abstract:A copper-catalyzed highly anti-selective radical 1,2-alkylarylation of terminal alkynes with aryl boronic acids and alkyl bromides has been established. The reaction exhibits high compatibility with a wide range of terminal alkynes and diverse aryl boronic acids, thus providing facile access to various stereodefined trisubstituted alkenes in high yield under mild reaction conditions. Abstract:Cp*Rh(III)‐catalyzed regioselective C−H annulation and alkenylation of 2‐pyridones with terminal alkynes have been developed. The cationic Cp*Rh(III) catalytic system containing FeCl3 additive enables annulation of 1‐(2‐pyridyl)‐2‐pyridones with terminal alkynes, providing efficient access to 5,7‐diarylated 2‐quinolinones. The reaction pathway can be switched to alkenylation with [Cp*RhCl2]2 as the catalyst, NaOAc as the additive and HOAc as the solvent, affording C6‐alkenylated 1‐(2‐pyridyl)‐2‐pyridones in high yields. These protocols accommodate a wide range of substrates with good functional group compatibility.

Abstract:Two new [12]metallacrown-6 compounds, [M(II)(6)(SMe)(12)] [M = Ru (1), Zn (2)], were constructed from a dimethyl sulfoxide decomposed methylthiol product to doubly bridged metal centers. The Ru(II) compound can prompt alkenylation reactions of phenylpyridines with alkynes to generate monoalkenylated arylpyridines in moderate yields with high regioselectivity and stereoselectivity.

Abstract:Under solvent control: Benzyl thioethers were alkenylated in excellent yields with broad substrate scope and the selectivity (mono- vs. disubstituted product) was controlled by the solvent and ratio of reactants. Sequential alkenylation with two different alkenes was also carried out in a one-pot process. In addition, the thioether directing group was removed in a one-pot process with simultaneous hydrogenation of the double bond to give the toluene derivatives.

Abstract:With halogen-atom transfer as an effective tool, a novel catalytic enantioselective protocol to generate chiral trifluoromethylated alkynes has been established by a cooperative photoredox and nickel catalysis system, providing a straightforward and modular route to access this type of product in good yields and enantioselectivities. The halogen-atom transfer process is essential for the reaction and this novel strategy offers another promising way to utilize alkyl halides with highly negative reduction potentials. It firstly expands nickel-catalyzed asymmetric reductive cross-couplings of organohalides from the traditional single-electron transfer to halogen-atom transfer.

Abstract:We developed a B(C6F5)3 catalyzed hydroarylation of terminal alkynes with various phenols at room temperature without adding any additives, leading to efficient synthesis of 2-gem-vinylphenols in good selectivity. Those transformations featured a broad substrate scope with moderate to excellent yields. Mechanism studies indicated that those transformations proceeded through the activation of phenol by B(C6F5)3 with subsequent protonation/Friedel-Crafts-type reaction.

Abstract:A regioselective anti-hydrochlorination of unactivated alkynes is reported. The reaction utilizes in situ generated HCl as the source of both the Cl- and H+ and is catalyzed by palladium(II) acetate, with loadings as low as 25 ppm. Removable picolinamide and 8-aminoquinoline bidentate directing groups are used to control the regioselectivity of the chloropalladation step and stabilize the resulting alkenylpalladium(II) intermediate for subsequent protodepalladation. This method provides access to a broad array of substituted alkenyl chlorides in excellent yields and with high regioselectivity. The products from this transformation were successfully derivatized via Stille coupling to a variety of trisubstituted alkene products. Reaction progress kinetic analysis was performed, shedding light on a possible mechanism for this catalytic process.
