Abstract:AbstractThe organolithium compounds, 1,4‐dilithio‐1,3‐diene and 1‐lithio‐1,3‐diene derivatives, show unprecedented reaction patterns with organic substrates. The 1,4‐dilithio‐1,3‐dienes react with aldehydes or ketones via deoxygenation of the C=O moieties to afford cyclopentadiene derivatives; pyridine derivatives are obtained in excellent yields when these organolithium reagents are treated with nitriles. In addition to novel reaction patterns, the experimental results have demonstrated that both the mono‐ and the dilithio reagents are synthetically useful building blocks. Abstract:FeCl2 ligated with 2-(benzimidazolyl)-6-(1-(arylimino)ethyl)pyridine in the presence of zinc powder and zinc iodide could effectively catalyze cyclotrimerization of intermolecular alkynes to afford benzene derivatives in high regioselectivity. The synthetic usefulness of this catalytic system consisting of Fe(II) complex C1, Zn and ZnI2 in acetonitrile was tested with various terminal alkynes. In the cases of using aryl substituted alkynes, the 1,2,4-trisubstituted benzenes 2 were found to be the major products.

Abstract:Zirconacyclopentadienes reacted with acetylenecarboxylates in the presence of a stoichiometric amount (2 equiv) of copper chloride to give benzene derivatives in high yields along with the formation of a copper mirror on the wall of the reaction vessel. Reactions of unsymmetrical zirconacyclopentadienes prepared from two different alkynes with acetylenecarboxylates gave benzene derivatives from three different alkynes in high yields with high selectivities. Preparation of unsymmetrical zirconacyclopentadienes and benzene derivatives formation can be done in one-pot, The structure of the reaction product of the unsymmetrical zirconacyclopentadiene having a trimethylsilyl group and a methyl group in the alpha- and beta-position, respectively, with acetylenedicarboxylate was determined by X-ray analysis. It indicated that the regiochemistry of those substituents was maintained during the reaction. When the coupling reaction of zirconacyclopentadienes with acetylenedicarboxylate in the presence of copper chloride was carried out at -78 degrees C, linear trienes were obtained as the intermediates in high yields after hydrolysis. Warming the mixture without hydrolysis gave the desired benzene derivatives in high yields. Use of an unsymmetrical zirconacyclopentadiene afforded a mixture of two isomers of the linear triene as intermediates after hydrolysis. When the mixture of the two isomers was warmed to room temperature without hydrolysis, both isomers gave the same benzene derivative. In the presence of a catalytic amount of copper chloride (10 mol %), this cycloaddition proceeded to give benzene derivatives in good yields without formation of the copper mirror. The reaction under the catalytic conditions at -78 degrees C also gave a linear triene after hydrolysis.

Abstract:A photoinduced radical difluoromethylarylation via tandem addition-cyclization of alkynes with easily available [bis(difluoroacetoxy)iodo]benzene is accomplished, providing a straightforward and practical route for the construction of difluoromethylated dibenzazepines. Various sensitive functional groups can be compatible under photoinduced conditions. Mechanism investigation reveals that this transformation is initiated by the addition of alkyne with difluoromethyl radical, generated in situ from [bis(difluoroacetoxy)iodo]benzene.

Abstract:A metal-free, TfOH (1.1 equiv)-mediated formal cycloisomerization of easily prepared allene-alkynylbenzenes to give pyrrolidines and cyclopentanes derivatives was developed. This reaction is initiated by the generation of allylic cation from allene, followed by alkyne's reaction with the allylic cation, to give a vinyl cation, which is finally intercepted by the triflate (TfO) anion. This cycloisomerization can be further tuned to become an acid-mediated intramolecular formal [4+3] cycloaddition by using 10 equiv of TfOH (The excess acid was used to promote the Friedel-Crafts reaction of the acid mediated cycloisomerization products). The present system can also be applied to synthesized F-incorporated products by using HBF4 or Me3OBF4 as the fluoro source.

Abstract:To study the intramolecular Diels-Alder cycloadditon of 2H-chromen-2-one as a diene, a series of chiral N-allyl-N-benzylamides that contain a 2H-chromen-2-one moiety were designed for the synthesis of benzo[f]isoindol-1-ones via an intramolecular Diels-Alder and a subsequent retro-Diels-Alder cycloaddition with the expulsion of CO2. Both the yield (80%-89%) and absolute stereocontrol of the tandem reaction were high when an electron-withdrawing group was attached to the dienophile. The double bond in the styrene substructure remained in the products could be further derivatized by dihydroxylation. Abstract:A facile and highly efficient three-component reaction of thiazole or benzothiazole carbenes, disubstituted ketenes, and activated alkynes is disclosed. With this methodology, a polysubstituted ring system containing furo[2,3-c]thiazepine core can be constructed from simple and readily accessible starting materials in good yields. The scope and limitation of this transformation were investigated in detail by using various thiazole carbene, ketene, and alkyne components. Furthermore, the synthetic utilities of these unique polyheterocyclic compounds were demonstrated via their Diels-Alder reactions with benzynes to furnish thiazepine-fused 7-oxanorbornadiene derivatives in excellent yields.

Abstract:Multiply substituted cyclopentadienes were formed through reactions between phenyl-substituted 1,4-dilithio-1,3-dienes such as 1b and 1c and two molecules of acyl chlorides. The phenyl substituents on the skeletons of the dilithiobutadiene derivatives played an essential role in the reaction pattern. Interestingly, when anhydrides were used, normal alkyl-substituted 1,4-dilithio-1,3-dienes such as la could also react similarly to the phenyl-substituted 1b and 1c, affording analogous types of multiply substituted cyclopentadienes in excellent isolated yields. Esters were found to afford mixtures of products when treated with la-c. When 1,4-dilithio-1,3-dienes wend treated with DMF, multiply substituted 2,4-diene-1,6-dials and/or 2,5-dihydrofuran derivatives were obtained in good yields, depending on the substitution patterns of the butadienyl skeletons. Abstract:Various benzyl ethers were converted to benzyl arenes via a FeCl3-catalyzed Friedel–Crafts alkylation reaction under mild condition in good yields. This method also offered a simple and practical approach to synthesize di- or tri-aryl methanes and aryl heteroaryl methanes through the activation of C–O bonds.

Abstract:We report herein an alkenylation of benzylic C(sp3)-H bonds with diazo compounds via carbon cation intermediates with DDQ as the oxidant in the presence of a catalytic amount of Fe(ii). Diphenylmethane, toluene, benzyl methyl sulfide and their derivatives could be applied as substrates to afford the tetra-substituted olefin products, which may serve as useful building blocks in organic synthesis.

Abstract:The development of new, more efficient Friedel-Crafts arylation methodologies that provide access to 1,1- diarylalkanes is an important objective of interest for the production of pharmaceuticals and fine chemical products. In this regard, this study introduces a novel synthetic route to 1,1-diarylalkanes conducted in the Deep Eutectic Solvent (DES) 3FeCl3 · 6H2O/Gly, which serves as both a reaction medium and promoter. Under these conditions, Friedel-Crafts benzylations of various arenes bearing activating and deactivating ortho-/para-directing groups, can be performed using diverse benzylating reagents such as styrenes, alcohols, acetates, ethers, and chlorides. Importantly, highly electronically deactivated electrophiles, including those with CF3 and NO2 groups, are suitable substrates. This methodology provides a wide range of asymmetric 1,1-diarylalkanes (up to 124 examples) with generally good yields and high regioselectivities. The efficacy of this approach was demonstrated with the multigram-scale synthesis (10 mmol) of 1-phenyl-1-xylyl ethane (PXE), a liquid with great industrial applicability. Moreover, the Fe(III)-based DES could be reused for a minimum of 20 consecutive cycles with no appreciable erosion of the yields.

Abstract:Aluminacyclopentadienes, prepared in situ from the reaction of AlCl3 and 1,4-dilithio-1,3-dienes at room temperature, reacted with aldehydes at room temperature to afford cyclopentadiene derivatives including tetrahydroindenes in good to excellent yields. Abstract:A silver-mediated cascade trifluoromethylthiolation/cyclization of unactivated alkenes has been investigated. This strategy employs AgSCF 3 as the trifluoromethylthiolating reagent to obtain a variety of useful trifluoromethylthiolated tricyclic imidazol derivatives in reasonable yields. Preliminary mechanistic studies indicate that the present reaction takes place via a radical process. This method is distinguished by its atom economy, wide functional group compatibility, operational simplicity and product diversity.

Abstract:A chlorobenzylation of terminal alkynes through Fe(II)promoted benzylic C(sp3) H bond functionalization in the presence of NCS as a chloride source was developed. Compared with previous methods to prepare polysubstituted alkenyl halides, the presented procedure provides an efficient alternative with high atom and step economy under mild conditions. The transformation was established to proceed through a single -electron transfer (SET) process with benzyl cations as key intermediates.

Abstract:Reaction of aldehydes with 1-lithio-1,3-butadiene reagents possessing a methyl substituent, a phenyl substituent or a hydrogen at position 4 of the butadienyl skeletons was studied. Polysubstituted cyclopentadiene derivatives were obtained in high yields upon hydrolysis using strong acidic solution. Reaction mechanism study revealed that these cyclopentadienes were formed via an acid-promoted cyclization of conjugated dienols. Thus, stereodefined all-cis substituted dienols or a wide diversity of substituted cyclopentadienes can be obtained from the same 1-lithio-1,3-butadiene reagent and aldehyde by adjusting the hydrolysis conditions.

Abstract:A sulfur-mediated electrophilic cyclization reaction of aryl-tethered internal alkynes has been developed. Triflic anhydride-activated sulfoxides induced the electrophilic cyclization and then demethylation with triethylamine in one pot, affording 3-sulfenyl-1,2-dihydronaphthalenes and related types of products in yields of <= 96%.
