Abstract:In this letter, we investigate the magnetic and ferroelectric properties of polycrystalline MnW1–xMoxO4 (x = 0, 0.05, 0.10, 0.20) compounds. The substitution of nonmagnetic Mo6+ ions for W6+ ions modifies the magnetic transition temperatures of MnW1–xMoxO4 by changing the Mn—O—Mn bond. As a result, distinct ferroelectric properties and enhanced magnetoelectric effects are observed in Mo6+ -doped MnWO4 compounds. The effects of substitution of Mo6+ ions on magnetic properties and magnetoelectric coupling are discussed.
HE ELECTICAL-RANSPORT PROPERTIES OF THE MO-DOPING La0.7Ca0.2Ba0.1Mn1-xMoxO3

Abstract:The Mo-doping La0.7Ca0.2Ba0.1Mn1-xMoxO3(x=0,0.01,…,0.06) polycrystalline samples have been prepared by solid state reaction method. The influence of Mo-doping on the structure ,transport properties and magnetoresistance have been investigated. X-ray diffraction indicated that all of the samples have orthorhombic(Pbnm) perovskite structure. The magnetization versus temperature (M～T) curves for zero field-cooled (ZFC)and field-cooled (FC) conditions in a magnetic filed of 100 G suggest that all of the samples undergo a FM to PM phase transition. The cluster-glass state is found to be formed below Tc,meanwhile the transition temperature Tc decreases from Tc~294.2K(x=0.00) to Tc~240.83K (x=0.06) due to increasing Mo doping. The temperature dependence of resistivity ρ(T) curves are measured under H=0T and H=1.5T,which reveals a metal-insulator transition and the transition temperature TP shifts obviously to lower temperature with increasing Mo content. The temperature dependence of magnetoresistance(MR ) curve of the samples indicates that the CMR around Tp is enhanced considerably by Mo-doping. For the sample with x=0.06,MR reaches a maximum value of 45.32%,which is almost three times of the undoped sample for x=0.

Abstract:The 0.33Ba(0.70)Ca(0.30)TiO(3)-0.67BiFeO(3) + x wt% MnO2 (BCT-67BF: Mn100x, x = 0-0.6) multiferroic ceramics have been prepared. The effects of Mn doping on structures, electric, magnetic as well as magnetocapacitive properties have been intensively investigated. It is found that all the ceramics have diphasic tetragonal- rhombohedral phases, whereas Mn doping improves the densification and significantly decreases the grain size. As x increases, the relaxor degree increases, the ferroelectricity and piezoelectricity weaken monotonically, while the magnetism enhances firstly, reaching the maximum near x = 0.5, and then decreases. Interestingly, the room temperature relative dielectric constant shows an obvious increase with increasing applied magnetic fields (H), the magnetocapacitive coefficient (epsilon(r)(H)-epsilon r(0))/epsilon(r)(0) decreases with increasing Mn content, from 2.96% for x = 0 - 0.86% for x = 0.6. Modulation of the Structural, Magnetic, and Dielectric Properties of YMnO3 by Cu Doping

Abstract:The lower valence compensation of YMn1-xCuxO3 (x = 0.00, 0.05, and 0.10) is prepared by the solid-state reaction, and the effects of divalent cation Cu-doping on the construction and magnetic and dielectric attributes of multiferroic YMnO3 are systemically researched. Powder X-ray diffraction shows YMn1-xCuxO3 has a single-phase hexagonal construction with a P63cm space group as the parent YMnO3, and lattice parameters decrease systematically as Cu concentration increases. Using the scanning electric microscope, structure morphologies analysis shows that the mean grain size varies between 1.90 and 2.20 μm as Cu content increases. YMn1-xCuxO3 magnetization increases as Cu doping concentration increases, and the antiferromagnetic transition temperature declines from 71 K for x = 0.00 to 58 K for x = 0.10. The valence distributions of Mn ions conduce to the modified magnetic attributes. Due to Cu substitution, the dielectric loss and dielectric constant decline as frequency increases from 400 to 700 K, showing representative relaxation behaviors. Indeed, that is a thermally activated process. In addition, the peak of the dielectric loss complies with the Arrhenius law. The relaxation correlates to the dipole effect regarding carrier hopping between Mn3+ and Mn4+, and also correlates to oxygen vacancies generated by Mn2+.

Abstract:The structure and magnetic properties of Mn Co Si1-xPx（x = 0.05–0.50） are systematically investigated.With P content increasing,the lattice parameter a increases monotonically while both b and c decrease.At the same time,the temperature of metamagnetic transition from a low-temperature non-collinear ferromagnetic state to a high-temperature ferromagnetic state decreases and a new magnetic transition from a higher-magnetization ferromagnetic state to a lowermagnetization ferromagnetic state is observed in each of these compounds for the first time.This is explained by the changes of crystal structure and distance between Mn and Si atoms with the increase of temperature according to the hightemperature XRD result.The metamagnetic transition is found to be a second-order magnetic transition accompanied by a low inversed magnetocaloric effect（1.0 J·kg-1·K-1at 5 T） with a large temperature span（190 K at 5 T） compared with the scenario of Mn Co Si.The changes in the order of metamagnetic transition and structure make P-doped Mo Co Si compounds good candidates for the study of magnetoelastic coupling and the modulation of magnetic phase transition.

Abstract:We synthesize a series of orthorhombic polycrystalline YMn1−xCrxO3 (o-YMCO, x < 0.3) samples using high-pressure sintering, and investigate the multiferroicity by various characterization techniques. It is identified that Cr doping remarkably enhances the ferromagnetism, and the ferroelectric polarization is also significantly modulated. The enhanced ferromagnetism is argued to originate from the ferromagnetic interactions between neighbouring Cr3+ spins and Mn3+ spins. While the microscopic mechanism for polarization generation remains to be clarified, it may be argued, based on the response of polarization against external magnetic field, that Cr doping induces a partial transition from the symmetric exchange striction mechanism in o-YMnO3 to the asymmetric exchange striction mechanism in o-YMCO for ferroelectricity generation.

Abstract:Hydrothermal synthesis between (NH 4)2S 2O 8 and MnSO 4 was carried out to investigate the structure, morphology, and electromagnetic properties of Ni-doped MnO 2 with different doping amounts. The samples were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and vector network analysis. The analysis results revealed that all the final products were α-MnO 2 and few amounts of γ-MnO 2, and the morphology changed obviously with the increase of the Ni doping amount. The doping of Ni had a certain effect on the electromagnetic properties, and some other properties derived from electromagnetic performances were also investigated, such as dielectric and magnetic loss tangent and microwave-absorbing properties. All the reflection loss (RL) peaks of the final products were moving toward lower frequency with increasing thickness, and with the thickness of 2 mm, the final products all had the maximum effective absorption bandwidth (RL < −10 dB), and the Ni-doped MnO 2 had better reflection loss performance than the undoped MnO 2 in the range of high frequency.

Abstract:Multiferroic Bi1−xLaxFeO3 [BLFO (x)] ceramics with x = 0.10–0.50 and Mn‐doped BLFO (x = 0.30) ceramics with different doping contents (0.1–1.0 mol%) were prepared by solid‐state reaction method. They were crystallized in a perovskite phase with rhombohedral symmetry. In the BLFO (x) system, a composition (x)‐driven structural transformation (R3c→C222) was observed at x = 0.30. The formation of Bi2Fe4O9 impure phase was effectively suppressed with increasing the x value, and the rhombohedral distortion in the BLFO ceramics was decreased, leading to some Raman active modes disappeared. A significant red frequency shift (~13 cm−1) of the Raman mode of 232 cm−1 in the BLFO ceramics was observed, which strongly perceived a significant destabilization in the octahedral oxygen chains, and in turn affected the local FeO6 octahedral environment. In the Mn‐doped BLFO (x = 0.30) ceramics, the intensity of the Raman mode near 628 cm−1 was increased with increasing the Mn‐doping content, which was resulted from an enhanced local Jahn–Teller distortions of the (Mn,Fe)O6 octahedra. Electron microscopy images revealed some changes in the ceramic grain sizes and their morphologies in the Mn‐doped samples at different contents. Wedge‐shaped 71° ferroelectric domains with domain walls lying on the {110} planes were observed in the BLFO (x = 0.30) ceramics, whereas in the 1.0 mol% Mn‐doped BLFO (x = 0.30) samples, 71° ferroelectric domains exhibited a parallel band‐shaped morphology with average domain width of 95 nm. Dielectric studies revealed that high dielectric loss of the BLFO (x = 0.30) ceramics was drastically reduced from 0.8 to 0.01 (measured @ 104 Hz) via 1.0 mol% Mn‐doping. The underlying mechanisms can be understood by a charge disproportion between the Mn4+ and Fe2+ in the Mn‐doped samples, where a reaction of Mn4+ + Fe2+→Mn3+ + Fe3+ is taken place, resulting in the reduction in the oxygen vacancies and a suppression of the electron hopping from Fe3+ to Fe2+ ions effectively.

Abstract:The effects of Y-doping on the magnetic, dielectric and ferroelectric properties of EuMnO3 were carefully investigated through a series of polycrystalline Eu1-xYxMnO3 (x = 0, 0.15, 0.25, 0.3 and 0.5) samples prepared by solid state reaction. The Y-doping reduces the A-site ionic size and then the Mn-O-Mn bond angle. It is postulated that upon the doping, the magnetic ground state firstly changes to a conical spin order at x = 0.15 and then a spiral spin order for higher doping. The ferroelectric transitions appear at the conical and spiral spin order transition points similar to 25 K, and a polarization similar to 90 mu C/m(2) is achieved in sample with x = 0.25. Abstract:Coupling effects among spin, charge, and lattice in a strongly correlated system are critical for next generation spintronic and data storage devices. However, the complex effects are elusive and difficult to distinguish their contributions to polarization modulation. Here we tailored the polarization by co-doping of non-magnetic Y and Eu at A-sites in DyMn2O5. The structure, specific heat, magnetism, and ferroelectricity of the polycrystalline Dy1-x(Eu0.24Y0.76)xMn2O5 ceramics were comprehensively explored. Interestingly, the co-doping does not cause lattice distortion of DyMn2O5, and all the ceramics are orthorhombic structures, while the independent Dy3+ spin order and the Dy3+-Mn3+ coupling can be suppressed. With increasing the co-doping content x, the spins related properties associated with the Dy3+-Mn4+-Dy3+ sub-lattice are progressively inhibited, while they keep less disturbance in the Mn3+-Mn4+-Mn3+ block. Moreover, the spin coupling of Dy3+-Mn3+ ions is stronger again the magnetic field than that of Dy3+-Mn3+. Our results enhance the understanding of ferrielectricity in DyMn2O5, and provide a method for controlling the polarization in the multiferroic manganite coexisting 3d and 4f elements.

Abstract:The magnetic and electric properties of Mn doped Y-type hexagonal ferrite were investigated. The samples with composition of Ba2Zn0.8Co0.8Cu0.4Fe12−xMnxO22 were prepared by solid-state reaction method. The results show that Mn doping distributes in the grains uniformly, and does not affect the phase formation and microstructure of Y-type hexagonal ferrite. Mn substitution does not damage the magnetic properties. However, Mn substitution can restrain the reduction of DC resistivity of the samples sintered at high temperatures. Minor Mn addition (x≤0.4) inhibits the valence alternation of Fe3+ and reduces the amount of charge carrier, so that dielectric permittivity decreased. When Mn is added more (0.6≤x≤0.8), the dielectric permittivity increases because of the valence alternation of Mn3+.

Abstract:0.67BiFeO3-0.33BaTiO3 multiferroic ceramics doped with x mol% MnO2 (x = 2–10) were synthesized by solid-state reaction. The formation of a perovskite phase with rhombohedral symmetry was confirmed by X-ray diffraction (XRD). The average grain sizes were reduced from 0.80 μm to 0.50 μm as increasing the Mn-doped levels. Single crystalline nature of the grains was revealed by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) images and electron diffraction patterns. Polar nano-sized ferroelectric domains with an average size of 9 nm randomly distributed in the ceramic samples were revealed by TEM images. Ferroelectric domain lamellae (71° ferroelectric domains) with an average width of 5 nm were also observed. Vibrational modes were examined by Raman spectra, where only four Raman peaks at 272 cm−1 (E-4 mode), 496 cm−1 (A1-4 mode), 639 cm−1, and 1338 cm−1 were observed. The blue shifts in the E-4 and A1-4 Raman mode frequencies were interpreted by a spring oscillator model. The dieletric constants of the present ceramics as a function of the Mn-doped levels exhibited a V-typed curve. They were in the range of 350–700 measured at 103 Hz, and the corresponding dielectric losses were in range of 0.43–0.96, approaching to 0.09 at 106 Hz.

Abstract:We attempt to modify the magnetoelectric properties of antiferromagnetic Bi2Fe4O9 nanograins by substituting multivalent Mn ions at Fe sites. The doped Bi2Fe4O9 nanograins are synthesized by a hydrothermal method with a different Mn content x (x is the mole ratio of Mn to Mn plus Fe; x = 0.00, 0.02, 0.04, 0.06, and 0.10). Among them, the x = 0.04 sample shows the anomalous decrease of lattice parameters a and b, the lowest antiferromagnetic transition temperature, and the largest saturated magnetization. Besides, the magneto-dielectric effect (Δɛ/ɛ ∼ −4.9%) and the magneto-striction constant (λ ∼ −1.1 × 10−4) of the x = 0.04 sample are also the largest compared with others (220 K and 0.6 T). Combined with Raman scattering and x-ray photoelectron measurement, it is considered that the substitution site of Mn ions varies with an increase of doping amount x, which also leads to the change of valence state of Mn ions and the lattice structure, and further affects the strength of magnetic interaction and spin-lattice coupling.

Abstract:Single crystalline polar magnets (Mn1−xCox)2Mo3O8 (0 ≤ x ≤ 1) have been synthesized, and their magnetic properties have been studied. Magnetic interactions of the samples can be modulated drastically by Co-doping, and a ferrimagnetic to antiferromagnetic phase transition is identified at x = 0.35. For the samples hosting a ferrimagnetic state (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.3), square-like magnetic hysteresis loops are commonly identified, and the remnant magnetization and coercive field are revealed to strongly depend on the Co-content and temperature. The occupation ratio and magnetic nature of Co2+ are key ingredients to dictate the competition of various magnetic exchange couplings in the samples.

Abstract:Polycrystalline Ca3-xMgxCo2-yMnyO6 (y similar to 1.0) samples are prepared in order to investigate the A-site doping effect of Ca3Co2-yMnyO6 (y similar to 1.0). Compared with Ca3Co2-yMnyO6 (y similar to 1.0), the ferroelectric polarization and Curie point of Ca3-xMgxCo2-yMnyO6 (y similar to 1.0) at the maximal doping x similar to 0.3 are significantly enhanced. The magnetic order of Ca3-xMgxCo2-yMnyO6 (x similar to 0.3, y similar to 1.0) and thus ferroelectric order are more robust than the undoped compound. The slight lattice shrinking as a result of Mg substitution may contribute to the enhancement of exchange striction, leading to the changes in magnetic and ferroelectric properties.

Abstract:The magnetic and structural properties of nanocomposite Nd9Fe85−xMnxB6 (x=0,0.5,1) have been investigated. It was found that the addition of manganese in the Nd9Fe85B6 could promote crystallization and enhance the hard magnetic properties of the material. Thermomagnetic analysis (TMA) measurement indicated that the doping of Mn reduces the Tc of the Nd2Fe14B phase and raises that of α-Fe phase in the system. From the radial distribution curves around Fe atoms of Extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS), it has been demonstrated that for both the as-spun Nd9Fe85−xMnxB6 (x=0,0.5,1) samples with lower x value and the annealed samples, the EXAFS curves appear to be similar to that of α-Fe.

Abstract:Mn doping of BiFeO3 for microstructure and electromagnetic characteristics was investigated in BiFe1–xMnxO3 (x = 0.0, 0.05, 0.10, 0.15) nanoparticles synthesized by sol-gel preparation technique. XRD and HR-TEM research reveals that the phase structure of nanoparticles changes from rhombohedral (R3c) for BiFeO3 to cubic (Pm( overline{3} )m) for BiFe0.9Mn0.1O3. The morphological characteristics show that the average particle sizes of the Mn-doped BiFeO3 nanoparticles were decreased as compared with that of the original BiFeO3. XPS spectroscopy analysis showed that Fe and Mn elements exist in the nanoparticles in the form of Fe2+/Fe3+ and Mn3+/Mn4+ valence states, respectively. PPMS-VSM and VAN analysis showed that a certain content of Mn doping can significantly improve the magnetic and microwave absorbing property of BiFeO3. At room temperature, the remnant magnetization and coercive field of the BiFe0.95Mn0.05FeO3 nanopowders were 0.08 emu/g and 6216 Oe, respectively. The minimum RL of BiFe0.95Mn0.05FeO3 can reach about − 29.41 dB at 10.39 GHz at 2.20 mm thickness.

Abstract:Mn-N co-doped ZnO film on sapphire substrate is fabricated by metal-organic chemical vapor deposition method with changing the acceptor-doped source and importing the hydrogen and increasing the pressure to suppress carbon (C) approach gradually. X-ray diffraction displays the strong C-axis orientation. Raman sepectrum is employed to analyze vibration modes related to C elements. Hall measurements on the samples by van der Pauw method reveal the transition from n-type to p-type after suppression of C, which is possible due to the complex of (CN)O acting as a shallow donor. The first principles simulation calculation for Mn and N codoped ZnO crystals has been perfermed, and the total density of states reveals the strong p-d interaction and magnetic moment existing in the Mn and N codoped ZnO. The introduction of the complex of (CN)O, causes the p-d interaction to disappear and the magnetic moment to reduce even disappear. Therefore, the formation of magnetic bound polaron of Mn 3d electronics and N 2p local bound electronic determines the magnetic interaction effect, which can be explained from the theoretical predication on the Mn 3d and N 2p ferromagnetic (hole) coupling on the ferromagnetism.

Abstract:The effect of Dy3+ doping at A-site in hexagonal YMnO3 on the microstructure and magnetic properties was studied. Polycrystalline Y1-xDyxMnO3 samples with x ranging from 0 to 1 were synthesized by the solid-state reaction method. The microstructures of all the samples were studied by X-ray diffraction, which shows that Y1-xDyxMnO3 with a low concentration (x <= 0.5) of Dy3+ retains a hexagonal symmetry. The crystal structure refinements of the hexagonal Y1-xDyxMnO3 using the Rietveld method show that the unit-cell parameters of a, c, and unit-cell volume increase with increasing Dy doping, while the MnO5 trigonal bipyramids remain almost unchanged. The remarkable increasing of magnetic moment at a low temperature with increasing the Dy3+ doping concentration is ascribed to the spin order of Dy3+ and the increasing Dy3+-Mn3+ coupling and Mn3+-O-O-Mn3+ interaction.
