Abstract:Scalar [1] and tensor [2] glueballs created in J/ψ radiative decays are studied in quenched lattice QCD. Using two anisotropic lattices to approach the continuum limit, we compute the relevant form factors responsible for the decay rates for J/ψ → γG0++ and J/ψ → γG2++ . Comparing with the existing experimental data, it is argued that f0(1710) is a favorable candidate for scalar glueball. The decay rate for J/ψ → γG2++ is found to be quite substantial. A comprehensive search in the tensor channel on BESIII is therefore suggested.

Abstract:On the basis of the results of xi(2230) --> pi(+)pi(-), <p(p)over bar> and <K(K)over bar>, measured by the BES Collaboration in radiative J/psi decays, combined with the upper limit of Br(xi --> <p(p)over right arrow>)Br(xi --> <K(K)over bar>), measured by the PS185 experiment, we argue that the distinctive properties of xi(2230), the flavor-symmetric decays and the narrow partial decay widths to pi pi and <K(K)over bar> as well as its copious production in radiative J/psi decay, show the evidence for a glueball.

Abstract:We study the radiative decay of Y into a scalar glueball Y-->gammaG(s) using QCD factorization. We find that for this process the nonperturbative effects can be factorized into a matrix element well defined in nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD) and the gluon distribution amplitude. The same NRQCD matrix element appears also in the leptonic decay of Y and therefore can be determined from data. In the asymptotic limit the gluon distribution amplitude is known up to a normalization constant. Using a QCD sum-rule calculation for the normalization constant, we obtain Br(Y-->gammaG(s)) to be in the range (1-2)x10(-3). We also discuss some of the implications for Y-->gammaf(i) decays. Near future data from CLEO-III can provide crucial information about scalar glueball properties.

Abstract:We solve the B.S. equation of glueballs under instantaneous approximation. With the B.S wave function obtained we calculate the decay width of glueballs to two pseudoscalar mesons, $\Gamma(\pi\pi)$, $\Gamma(kk)$ and $\Gamma(\eta\eta)$. $\Gamma(\eta\eta^\prime)$ from QCD anomaly is also estimated.

Abstract:The form factors in the radiative decay of J/psi to a scalar glueball are studied within quenched lattice QCD on anisotropic lattices. The continuum extrapolation is carried out by using two different lattice spacings. With the results of these form factors, the partial width of J/psi radiatively decaying into the pure gauge scalar glueball is predicted to be 0.35(8) keV, which corresponds to a branching ratio of 3.8(9) x 10(-3). By comparing with experiments, out results indicate that f(0)(1710) has a larger overlap with the pure gauge glueball than other related scalar mesons. DOI: 10.1103/PhysRevLett.110.021601

Abstract:The radiative decay of J/ψ into a pure gauge tensor glueball is studied in the quenched lattice QCD formalism. With two anisotropic lattices, the multipole amplitudes E1(0), M2(0), and E3(0) are obtained to be 0.114(12)(6) GeV, -0.011(5)(1) GeV, and 0.023(8)(1) GeV, respectively. The first error comes from the statistics, the Q2 interpolation, and the continuum extrapolation, while the second is due to the uncertainty of the scale parameter r0(-1)=410(20) MeV. Thus, the partial decay width Γ(J/ψ→γG(2++)) is estimated to be 1.01(22)(10) keV, which corresponds to a large branch ratio 1.1(2)(1)×10(-2). The phenomenological implication of this result is also discussed.

Abstract:We theoretically evaluate the decay rates of a scalar glueball up to the order O(alpha(s)), where only two Feynman diagrams contribute and a special attention is paid on possible flavour SU(3) symmetry breaking in the process. It is concluded that the SU(3) flavour symmetry may be respected in any case. However, due to chiral suppression in G(0) -> (q) over barq, Gamma(G(0) -> (Q) over barq (q) over barq) very likely is larger than Gamma(G(0) -> (q) over barq). These results are supported by the experimental data on the decays of chi(c0)(1P) (0(++)). Based on this result, we propose a criterion to identify the scalar glueball.

Abstract:Based on a bound constituent gluon picture and the gluon anomaly in QCD, I argue that the decay branching ratios of the 2(++) glueball candidate xi(2230) may satisfy B(xi --> eta'eta') greater than or equal to 0.6B(xi --> eta eta'), B(xi --> eta eta') greater than or equal to 5.6B(xi --> eta eta) and B(xi --> eta eta) much greater than B(xi --> pi pi). These features might provide a useful test for xi(2230).

Abstract:We aim to explore the production rate of the pseudoscalar glueball in $J/\psi$ radiative decay by lattice QCD in quenched approximation. The calculation is performed on three anisotropic lattices with the spatial lattice spacing ranging from 0.222(2) fm to 0.110(1) fm. As a calibration of some systematical uncertainties, we first extract the $M1$ form factor $\hat{V}(0)$ of the process $J/\psi\to\gamma\eta_{c}$ and get the result $\hat{V}(0)=1.933(41)$ in the continuum limit, which gives the partial width $\Gamma(J/\psi\to\gamma\eta_{c})=2.47(11)$ keV. These results are in agreement with that of previous lattice studies. As for the pseudoscalar glueball $G_{0^{-+}}$, its mass is derived to be $2.395(14)$ GeV, and the form factor $\hat{V}(0)$ of the process $J/\psi\to\gamma G_{0^{-+}}$ is determined to be $\hat{V}(0)=0.0246(43)$ after continuum extrapolation. Finally, the production rate of the pseudoscalar glueball is predicted to be $2.31(90)\times10^{-4}$, which is much smaller than that of conventional light $q\bar{q}$ $\eta$ states. After the subtraction of the phase space factor, the couplings of $J/\psi X\gamma$ are similar where $X$ stands for $\eta$ states and the pseudoscalar glueball. Possibly, the $U_{A}(1)$ anomaly plays an important role for the large couplings of gluons to the flavor singlet $\eta$ states in $J/\psi$ radiative decays.

The $B^0 \to J/ψf_0(1370,1500,1710)$ decays: an opportunity for scalar glueball hunting

Abstract:The scalars $f_0$ closest to 1.5 GeV contain the mesons $f_0(1370)$, $f_0(1500)$ and $f_0(1710)$, and the latter two ones are usually viewed as the potential candidates for the scalar glueballs. In this work, by including the important contributions from the vertex corrections, we study the decays $B^0 \to J/\psi f_0$ within the improved perturbative QCD approach and analyze the possible scalar glueball hunting. Together with the two mixing models, namely, $f_0(1500) (f_0(1710))$ being the primary scalar glueball in model I (II), and two classification scenarios, namely, $f_0$ being the $q\bar q$ excited (ground) states in scenario 1 (2), the branching fractions associated with their ratios for $B^0 \to J/\psi f_0$ are evaluated comprehensively. The predictions with still large uncertainties in the considered two mixing models are roughly consistent with currently limited data, which indicates that both more rich data and more precise predictions are urgently demanded to figure out the scalar glueball clearly in the future. Moreover, several interesting ratios between the branching fractions of $B^0 \to J/\psi f_0(\to \pi^+ \pi^-/K^+ K^-)$ and $B^0 \to J/\psi \rho^0/\phi (\to \pi^+ \pi^-/ K^+ K^-)$ that could help us to understand the nature of scalar $f_0$ are defined and predicted theoretically. These ratios should be examined in future experiments.

Abstract:The resonance D-sJ (2632) observed by SELEX, has attracted great interests and meanwhile brought up serious dispute. Its spin-parity, so far has not finally determined and if it exists, its quark-structure might be exotic. Following the previous literature where D-sJ(2632) is assumed to be a radial-excited state of 1(-), we consider the possibilities that it might be a q (q) over bar ground state of 2(+) or the first radial-excited state of 0(+) D-sJ(2317) and re-calculate its strong decay widths in terms of the Bethe-Salpeter equation. Our results indicate that there still is a sharp discrepancy between the theoretical evaluation and data.

Abstract:Glueballs are predicted in various theoretical approaches of QCD (most notably lattice QCD), but their experimental verification is still missing. In the low-energy sector some promising candidate for the scalar glueball exist, and some (less clear) candidates for the tensor and pseudoscalar glueballs were also proposed. Yet, for heavier gluonic states there is much work to be done both from the experimental and theoretical points of view. In these proceedings, we briefly review the current status of research of glueballs and discuss future developments.

Abstract:Within the effective Lagrangian approach, we carry out a unified study of the $J/\psi (\psi')\to VP$, $J/\psi \to P\gamma$ and relevant radiative decays of light-flavor hadrons. Large amount of experimental data, including the various decay widths and electromagnetic form factors, are fitted to constrain the numerous hadron couplings. Relative strengths between the strong and electromagnetic interactions are revealed in the $J/\psi \to VP$ and $\psi' \to VP$ processes. The effect from the strong interaction is found to dominate in the $J/\psi \to \rho\pi$ decay, while the electromagnetic interaction turns out to be the dominant effect in $\psi' \to \rho\pi$ decay, which provides an explanation to the $\rho\pi$ puzzle. For the $J/\psi\to K^{*}\bar{K}+\bar{K}^{*}K$ and $\psi' \to K^{*}\bar{K}+\bar{K}^{*}K$, the former process is dominated by the strong interactions, and the effects from the electromagnetic parts are found to be comparable with those of strong interactions in the latter process. Different $SU(3)$ breaking effects from the electromagnetic parts appear in the charged and neutral channels for the $\psi' \to K^{*}\bar{K}+\bar{K}^{*}K$ processes explain the rather different ratios between $B(\psi'\to K^{*+}K^{-}+K^{*-}K^{+})/B(J/\psi\to K^{*+}K^{-}+K^{*-}K^{+})$ and $B(\psi'\to K^{*0}\bar{K}^{0}+\bar{K}^{*0}K^{0})/B(J/\psi\to K^{*0}\bar{K}^{0}+\bar{K}^{*0}K^{0})$.

Signatures of Absorption Mechanisms for J/psi and psi' Production in High-Energy Heavy-Ion Collisions

Abstract:J/psi and psi' produced in high-energy heavy-ion collisions are absorbed by their collisions with nucleons and produced soft particles, leading to two distinct absorption mechanisms. The signature of absorption by produced soft particles, as revealed by psi' production data, consists of a gap and a change of the slope in going from the pA line to the nucleus-nucleus line when we make a semi-log plot of the survival probability as a function of the path length. Using this signature, we find from the J/psi production data in pA, O-Cu, O-U, and S-U collisions that the degree of J/psi absorption by produced soft particles is small and cannot account for the J/psi data in Pb-Pb collisions. The anomalous suppression of J/psi production in Pb-Pb collisions can be explained as due to the occurrence of a new phase of strong J/psi absorption, which sets in when the local energy density exceeds about 3.4 GeV/fm^3. To probe the chemical content of the new phase, we propose to study the abundance of open-charm mesons and charm hyperons which depends sensitively on the quark chemical potential.

The radiative decay of scalar glueball from lattice QCD

Abstract:We perform the first lattice QCD study on the radiative decay of the scalar glueball to the vector meson $\phi$ in the quenched approximation. The calculations are carried out on three gauge ensembles with different lattice spacings, which enable us to do the continuum extrapolation. We first revisit the radiative $J/\psi$ decay into the scalar glueball $G$ and obtain the partial decay width $\Gamma(J/\psi \to \gamma G)=0.578(86)~\text{keV}$ and the branching fraction $\text{Br}(J/\psi \to \gamma G) = 6.2(9)\times 10^{-3}$. We then extend the similar calculation to the process $G\to \gamma \phi$ and get the partial decay width $\Gamma(G \to \gamma \phi)= 0.074(47)~\text{keV}$, which implies that the combined branching fraction of $J/\psi\to\gamma G\to \gamma\gamma\phi$ is as small as $\mathcal{O}(10^{-9})$ such that this process is hardly detected by the BESIII experiment even with the large $J/\psi$ sample of $\mathcal{O}(10^{10})$. With the vector meson dominance model, the two-photon decay width of the scalar glueball is estimated to be $\Gamma(G\to\gamma\gamma)=0.53(46)~\text{eV}$, which results in a large stickiness $S(G)\sim \mathcal{O}(10^4)$ of the scalar glueball by assuming the stickiness of $f_2(1270)$ to be one.

Abstract:In pure-glue QCD, gluon–gluon scattering in the $$J^{PC}=0^{-+}$$ channel is described by a very simple equation, especially if one considers just the leading contribution to the scattering kernel. Of all components in this kernel, only the three-gluon vertex, $$V_{\mu \nu \rho }$$, is poorly constrained by contemporary analyses; hence, calculations of $$0^{-+}$$ glueball properties serve as a clear window onto the character and form of $$V_{\mu \nu \rho }$$. This is important given that many modern calculations of $$V_{\mu \nu \rho }$$ predict the appearance of an infrared suppression in the scalar function which comes to modulate the bare vertex after the nonperturbative resummation of interactions. Such behaviour is a peculiar prediction; but we find that the suppression is essential if one is to achieve agreement with lattice-QCD predictions for the $$0^{-+}$$ glueball mass. Hence, it is likely that this novel feature of $$V_{\mu \nu \rho }$$ is real and has observable implications for the spectrum, decays and interactions of all QCD bound-states.
Decays of the tensor glueball in a chiral approach

Abstract:Glueballs remain an experimentally undiscovered prediction of QCD. Lattice QCD predicts a spectrum of glueballs, with the tensor $(J^{PC}=2^{++})$ glueball being the second lightest, behind the scalar glueball. From an effective hadronic model based on spontaneous and explicit chiral symmetry breaking, we compute decay ratios of the tensor glueball into various meson decay channels. We find the tensor glueball to primarily decay into 2 vector mesons, dominated by $\rho\rho$ and $K^*K^*$. These results are compared to experimental data of decay rates of spin 2 mesons. Based on this comparison we make statements on the eligibility of these mesons as potential tensor glueball candidates.
