Abstract:We study the radiative decay of Y into a scalar glueball Y-->gammaG(s) using QCD factorization. We find that for this process the nonperturbative effects can be factorized into a matrix element well defined in nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD) and the gluon distribution amplitude. The same NRQCD matrix element appears also in the leptonic decay of Y and therefore can be determined from data. In the asymptotic limit the gluon distribution amplitude is known up to a normalization constant. Using a QCD sum-rule calculation for the normalization constant, we obtain Br(Y-->gammaG(s)) to be in the range (1-2)x10(-3). We also discuss some of the implications for Y-->gammaf(i) decays. Near future data from CLEO-III can provide crucial information about scalar glueball properties.

Abstract:We solve the B.S. equation of glueballs under instantaneous approximation. With the B.S wave function obtained we calculate the decay width of glueballs to two pseudoscalar mesons, $\Gamma(\pi\pi)$, $\Gamma(kk)$ and $\Gamma(\eta\eta)$. $\Gamma(\eta\eta^\prime)$ from QCD anomaly is also estimated.

Abstract:Scalar [1] and tensor [2] glueballs created in J/ψ radiative decays are studied in quenched lattice QCD. Using two anisotropic lattices to approach the continuum limit, we compute the relevant form factors responsible for the decay rates for J/ψ → γG0++ and J/ψ → γG2++ . Comparing with the existing experimental data, it is argued that f0(1710) is a favorable candidate for scalar glueball. The decay rate for J/ψ → γG2++ is found to be quite substantial. A comprehensive search in the tensor channel on BESIII is therefore suggested.

Abstract:The form factors in the radiative decay of J/psi to a scalar glueball are studied within quenched lattice QCD on anisotropic lattices. The continuum extrapolation is carried out by using two different lattice spacings. With the results of these form factors, the partial width of J/psi radiatively decaying into the pure gauge scalar glueball is predicted to be 0.35(8) keV, which corresponds to a branching ratio of 3.8(9) x 10(-3). Abstract:The scalars closest to 1.5 GeV contain the mesons , and , and the latter two ones are usually viewed as the potential candidates for the scalar glueballs. In this work, by including the important contributions from the vertex corrections, we study the decays within the improved perturbative QCD approach and analyze the possible scalar glueball hunting. Together with the two mixing models, namely, being the primary scalar glueball in model I (II), and two classification scenarios, namely, being the excited (ground) states in scenario 1 (2), the branching fractions associated with their ratios for are evaluated comprehensively. The predictions with still large uncertainties in the considered two mixing models are roughly consistent with currently limited data, which indicates that both more rich data and more precise predictions are urgently demanded to figure out the scalar glueball clearly in the future. Moreover, several interesting ratios between the branching fractions of and that could help us to understand the nature of scalar are defined and predicted theoretically. These ratios should be examined in future experiments.

Abstract:We theoretically evaluate the decay rates of a scalar glueball up to the order O(alpha(s)), where only two Feynman diagrams contribute and a special attention is paid on possible flavour SU(3) symmetry breaking in the process. It is concluded that the SU(3) flavour symmetry may be respected in any case. However, due to chiral suppression in G(0) -> (q) over barq, Gamma(G(0) -> (Q) over barq (q) over barq) very likely is larger than Gamma(G(0) -> (q) over barq). These results are supported by the experimental data on the decays of chi(c0)(1P) (0(++)). Based on this result, we propose a criterion to identify the scalar glueball.

Abstract:Trigluon glueball might be a gateway to the gluonic meson realm. Here, we briefly report some of our results on this possibility. It was found that the exotic quantum number gluonic states, the oddballs, indeed deserve to pay more attention to, and hopefully the long-searched-for glueball could then be detected.

Abstract:We study two-body decays of a scalar glueball. We show that in QCD a spin-0 pure glueball (a state with only gluons) cannot decay into a pair of light quarks if chiral symmetry holds exactly, i.e., the decay amplitude is chirally suppressed. However, this chiral suppression does not materialize itself at the hadron level such as in decays into π+π- and K+K-. We show this explicitly in the two cases with the glueball much lighter and much heavier than the QCD scale using low-energy theorems and perturbative QCD. For a heavy glueball, using QCD factorization based on an effective Lagrangian, we find that the hadronization into ππ and KK leads to a large difference between Br(π+π-) and Br(K+K-); even the decay amplitude is not chirally suppressed. Our results can provide some understanding of the partonic contents if Br(ππ) or Br(KK̄) is measured reliably.
Scalar decay into pions via Higgs portal

Abstract:In extensions of the Standard Model (SM) of particle physics a light scalar from a hidden sector can interact with known particles via mixing with the SM Higgs boson. If the scalar mass is of GeV scale, this coupling induces the scalar decay into light hadrons, that saturates the scalar width. Searches for the light scalars are performed in many ongoing experiments and planned for the next generation projects. Applying dispersion relations changes the leading order estimate of the scalar decay rate into pions by a factor of about a hundred indicating the strong final state interaction. This subtlety for about thirty years prevented any reliable inference of the model parameters from experimental data. In this letter we use the gravitational form factor for neutral pion extracted from analysis of $\gamma^*\gamma\to\pi^0\pi^0$ processes to estimate the quark contribution to scalar decay into two pions. We find a factor of two uncertainty in this estimate and argue that the possible gluon contribution is of the same order. The decay rate to pions smoothly matches that to gluons dominating for heavier scalars. With this finding we refine sensitivities of future projects to the scalar-Higgs mixing. The accuracy in the calculations can be further improved by performing similar analysis of $\gamma^*\gamma\to K K$ and $\gamma^*\gamma\to\eta\eta$ processes and possibly decays like $J/\psi\to\gamma+\pi\pi$.

Radiative Meson and Glueball Decays in the Witten-Sakai-Sugimoto Model

Abstract:We calculate radiative decay rates of mesons and glueballs in the top-down holographic Witten-Sakai-Sugimoto model with finite quark masses. After assessing to what extent this model agrees or disagrees with experimental data, we present its predictions for so far undetermined decay channels. Contrary to widespread expectations, we obtain sizeable two-photon widths of scalar, tensor, and pseudoscalar glueballs, suggesting in particular that the observed two-photon rate of the glueball candidate $f_0(1710)$ is not too large to permit a glueball interpretation, but could be even much higher. We also discuss the so-called exotic scalar glueball, which in the Witten-Sakai-Sugimoto model is too broad to match either of the main glueball candidates $f_0(1500)$ and $f_0(1710)$, but might be of interest with regard to the alternative scenario of the so-called fragmented scalar glueball. Employing the exotic scalar glueball for the latter, much smaller two-photon rates are predicted for the ground-state glueball despite a larger total width; relatively large two-photon rates would then apply to the excited scalar glueball described by the predominantly dilatonic scalar glueball. In either case, the resulting contributions to the muon $g-2$ from hadronic light-by-light scattering involving glueball exchanges are small compared to other single meson exchanges, of the order of $\lesssim 10^{-12}$.

Abstract:We study $$ \overline{q} $$q-hybrid mixing for the light vector mesons and $$ \overline{q} $$q-glueball mixing for the light scalar mesons in Monte-Carlo based QCD Laplace sum rules. By calculating the two-point correlation function of a vector $$ \overline{q} $$γμq (scalar $$ \overline{q} $$q) current and a hybrid (glue- ball) current we are able to estimate the mass and the decay constants of the corresponding mixed “physical state” that couples to both currents. Our results do not support strong quark/gluonic mixing for either the 1−− or the 0++ states.
The radiative decay of scalar glueball from lattice QCD

Abstract:We perform the first lattice QCD study on the radiative decay of the scalar glueball to the vector meson $\phi$ in the quenched approximation. The calculations are carried out on three gauge ensembles with different lattice spacings, which enable us to do the continuum extrapolation. We first revisit the radiative $J/\psi$ decay into the scalar glueball $G$ and obtain the partial decay width $\Gamma(J/\psi \to \gamma G)=0.578(86)~\text{keV}$ and the branching fraction $\text{Br}(J/\psi \to \gamma G) = 6.2(9)\times 10^{-3}$. We then extend the similar calculation to the process $G\to \gamma \phi$ and get the partial decay width $\Gamma(G \to \gamma \phi)= 0.074(47)~\text{keV}$, which implies that the combined branching fraction of $J/\psi\to\gamma G\to \gamma\gamma\phi$ is as small as $\mathcal{O}(10^{-9})$ such that this process is hardly detected by the BESIII experiment even with the large $J/\psi$ sample of $\mathcal{O}(10^{10})$. With the vector meson dominance model, the two-photon decay width of the scalar glueball is estimated to be $\Gamma(G\to\gamma\gamma)=0.53(46)~\text{eV}$, which results in a large stickiness $S(G)\sim \mathcal{O}(10^4)$ of the scalar glueball by assuming the stickiness of $f_2(1270)$ to be one.

Abstract:The light scalar meson nonet above 1 GeV ({\it i.e.\}the $a_{0}$, $K^{\ast}_{0}$ and $f_{0}$) are studied within the framework of QCD sum rules. In conventional QCD sum rules, the calculated masses of this nonet are degenerate, and the mass of $K^{\ast}_{0}$ is always larger than the $a_{0}$ in contradiction with the observed spectrum. After improving the correlation function by including instanton effects, the masses are well separated from each other. In particular, our results shows glueball content plays an important role in the underlying structure of $f_{0}(1500)$. The decay constants are also discussed.

Abstract:The existence of a glueball has been a tough work for many years study. Utilizing the well developed QCD theory for $B$ meson decays, we propose a new way to identify whether a scalar glueball existed or not. In the presence of mixing between glueballs and ordinary scalar mesons, we explore the possibility to extract the mixing parameters from semileptonic B decays and nonleptonic B decays. We also point out a clean way to identify a glueball through $B_c$ decays.

Abstract:Taking into account the exchange forces between protons of scalar, pseudoscalar, vector and axial vector type the cross sections of neutral and charged scalar mesons $a_0(980)$, $a_+(980)$, $f_0(980)$, $\sigma(600)$ production are calculated. The estimation for the facilities of moderately high energies such as PANDA and NICA are presented. Similar analysis is given for processes of charged and neutral Higgs boson production at high energy proton-proton colliders such as Tevatron, RHIC and LHC. The possible signal of neutral Higgs boson decay into two oppositely charged leptons of different kinds is discussed. Numerical estimations for parameters of modern colliders are given.

Scattering of scalar and tensor glueballs

Abstract:The scalar glueball, the lightest state in the gluonic Yang-Mills (YM) sector of QCD, is stable in that framework. The scattering of two scalar glueballs is therefore a well defined process in YM, which can be studied with the tools of quantum field theory and partial wave analysis. By using a dilaton Lagrangian, which contains a single dimensionful parameter $\Lambda_G$, in the context of proper unitarization procedures, we find that a bound state is expected to form in the $S$-wave if $\Lambda_G$ is below a certain critical value. Additionally, we also evaluate the impact of a cutoff function on the obtained results and we discuss possible future comparison of our model with Lattice QCD and, eventually, with experimental searches. We show that the expansion into partial wave can also be useful (together with the covariant helicity formalism) in the study of decays of mesons. This method allows us to describe the ratio between two different waves in the same decays. We use this information to describe decay widths and other relevant quantities. Moreover, we show that the results obtained using the covariant helicity formalism do not change when rotating the reference frame centered in the decaying particle. In this way, an alternative calculation scheme is presented. Finally, we use the so-called Glueball Resonance Gas (GRG) model to describe the thermal properties of YM below the critical temperature for deconfinement. The quantities obtained from this model (such as the pressure) can be compared with those obtained from lattice works. The contribution of heavier glueballs and the interaction between scalar and tensor glueballs turns out to be rather small. Within this context, the scattering of two tensor glueballs, required to estimate its contribution in the GRG model, is investigated in detail.

Abstract:Glueballs remain an experimentally undiscovered prediction of QCD. Lattice QCD predicts a spectrum of glueballs, with the tensor $(J^{PC}=2^{++})$ glueball being the second lightest, behind the scalar glueball. From an effective hadronic model based on spontaneous and explicit chiral symmetry breaking, we compute decay ratios of the tensor glueball into various meson decay channels. We find the tensor glueball to primarily decay into 2 vector mesons, dominated by $\rho\rho$ and $K^*K^*$. These results are compared to experimental data of decay rates of spin 2 mesons. Based on this comparison we make statements on the eligibility of these mesons as potential tensor glueball candidates.

Abstract:The 0(++) glueball mass is analyzed in the QCD sum rules. We show that in order to determine the 0(++) glueball mass by using the QCD sum rules method, it is necessary to clarify the following three ingredients: (1) to choose the appropriate moment with acceptable parameters which satisfy all of the criteria; (2) to take into account the radiative corrections; (3) to estimate an additional contribution to the glueball mass from the lowest lying (q) over bar q resonance. We conclude that the key point is to choose suitable moments to determine the 0(++) glueball mass; the radiative corrections do not affect it sensitively and the composite resonance has little effect on it. Abstract:We consider the vector and the pseudovector glueball in the top-down holographic model of large-$N_c$ QCD of Witten and their decays into ordinary mesons described by the D8 brane construction due to Sakai and Sugimoto. At leading order, the relevant interactions are determined exclusively by the Chern-Simons action of the D8 branes and are thus rigidly connected to the chiral anomaly and the Wess-Zumino-Witten terms. As found in a previous study of the pseudovector glueball, which we revisit and complete, the resulting decay widths are surprisingly large, implying that both the pseudovector and the vector glueball are very broad resonances, with a conspicuous dominance of decays into $a_1\rho$ and $K_1(1400) K^*$ in the case of the vector glueball. We also obtain a certain weak mixing of vector glueballs with ordinary vector mesons, but we conclude that it does not provide an explanation for the so-called $\rho\pi$ puzzle in charmonium decays.
