Abstract:Objective: To investigate the prevalence of child sexual abuse (CSA) in male high school students and explore the implication of being abused. Method: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 239 male high school students by anonymous self-administered questionnaire in May 2002. They were asked a series of retrospective questions about sexual harassment and physical abuse as a child. CES-D(Childhoodenter for Epidemiological studies Depression scale) and SES (self-esteem scale) were also applied to them. Result: Among this sample, 55 (23.0%) reported having experienced CSA (positive in any one of the ten forms of non-physical contact or physical contact before the age of 16). Three (1.3%) experienced abuse involving attempted intercourse and two (0.8%) experienced abuse involving completed intercourse.The age at first episodes of 49.1% CSA was 11 years old and younger Comparing those with no history of CSA, the victims had higher score in CES-D, lower score in SES and poor self-evaluation of health status. Conclusion: Unwanted sexual harassment and physical assault in boys have negative influence on mental health of the victim.
