Abstract:For any discretely self-similar, incompressible initial data $v_0$ which satisfies $\|v_0 \|_{L^3_w(\mathbb R^3)}\leq c_0$ where $c_0$ is allowed to be large, we construct a forward discretely self-similar local Leray solution in the sense of Lemarié-Rieusset to the 3D Navier-Stokes equations in the whole space. No further assumptions are imposed on the initial data; in particular, the data is not required to be continuous or locally bounded on $\mathbb R^3\setminus \{0\}$. The same method is used to construct self-similar solutions for any $-1$-homogeneous initial data in $L^3_w$.

Abstract:We introduce new classes of solutions to the three dimensional Navier-Stokes equations in the whole and half spaces that add rotational correction to self-similar and discretely self-similar solutions. We construct forward solutions in these new classes for arbitrarily large initial data in $L^3_w$ on the whole and half spaces. We also comment on the backward case.

Abstract:Whether the 3D incompressible Navier-Stokes equations will have a global smooth solution for all smooth, finite energy initial data is a Millennium Prize problem. One of the main difficulties of this problem is that the Navier-Stokes equations are actually a system of semilinear heat equations rather than a single equation. In this paper, we discover a remarkable hidden symmetry of the 3D incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. Under this symmetric reduction, the system reduces to a single scalar semilinear heat equation. The symmetry also holds for the 3D incompressible Euler equations.

Forward self-similar solutions to the MHD equations in the whole space

Abstract:In this paper, we study the existence of forward self-similar solutions to the three-dimensional Magnetohydrodynamic equations (MHD equations) with arbitrarily large self-similar initial data. Using the so called blow-up argument, we establish the necessary a priori estimates. Subsequently, the Leray-Schauder theorem allows us to construct a global-time forward self-similar solutions of the MHD equations. Furthermore, we prove that this solution is smooth in $\R^{3}\times(0,\infty)$.

Abstract:This paper considers the Navier–Stokes equations in the half plane with Euler-type initial conditions, i.e., initial conditions with a non-zero tangential component at the boundary. Under analyticity assumptions for the data, we prove that the solution exists for a short time independent of the viscosity. We construct the Navier–Stokes solution through a composite asymptotic expansion involving solutions of the Euler and Prandtl equations plus an error term. The norm of the error goes to zero with the square root of the viscosity. The Prandtl solution contains a singular term, which influences the regularity of the error. The error term is the sum of a first-order Euler correction, a first-order Prandtl correction, and a further error term. The use of an analytic setting is mainly due to the Prandtl equation.

Spatial decay of discretely self-similar solutions to the Navier-Stokes equations

Abstract:Forward self-similar and discretely self-similar weak solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations are known to exist globally in time for large self-similar and discretely self-similar initial data and are known to be regular outside of a space-time paraboloid. In this paper, we establish spatial decay rates for such solutions which hold in the region of regularity provided the initial data has locally sub-critical regularity away from the origin. In particular, we (1) lower the Hölder regularity of the data required to obtain an optimal decay rate for the nonlinear part of the flow compared to the existing literature, (2) establish new decay rates without logarithmic corrections for some smooth data, (3) provide new decay rates for solutions with rough data, and, as an application of our decay rates, (4) provide new upper bounds on how rapidly potentially {non-unique}, scaling invariant local energy solutions can separate away from the origin.

The proof is based on a new weighted estimate that enables to treat terms involving Calderon–Zygmund operators. The new weighted estimate is expected to have certain applications in control theory when classical Carleman-type inequality is not applicable.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the global well-posedness of the 3-D inhomogeneous incompressible Navier-Stokes system (INS in short) with initial density $\rho_0$ being discontinuous and initial velocity $u_0$ belonging to some critical space. Firstly, if $\rho_0u_0$ is sufficiently small in the space $\dot{B}^{-1+\frac{3}{p}}_{p,\infty}(\mathbb{R}^3)$ and $\rho_0$ is close enough to a positive constant in $L^\infty$, we establish the global existence of strong solution to (INS) for $3<p<\infty$ and provide the uniqueness of the solution for $3<p<6$. This result corresponds to Cannone-Meyer-Planchon solution of the classical Navier-Stokes system. Furthermore, with the additional assumption that $u_0\in L^2(\mathbb{R}^3)$, we prove the weak-strong uniqueness between Cannone-Meyer-Planchon solution and Lions weak solution of (INS). Finally, we prove the global well-posedness of (INS) with $u_0\in \dot{B}^{\frac{1}{2}}_{2,\infty}(\mathbb{R}^3)$ being small and only an upper bound on the density. This gives the first existence result of the forward self-similar solution for (INS).

Abstract:Stationary or self similar solutions with suitable homogeneity often play a crucial role in the regularity theory of nonlinear problems, which are physically or geometrically interesting. This has been manifested in the regularity theory of harmonic maps and minimal surfaces. The local partial regularity theorem in [CKN] implies that there are no self-similar solutions with small local energy (also see [TX] for generalizations). Making use of some arguments in [NRS], Tsai has ruled out the existence of any self-similar solutions with a finite local energy. Yet it is unclear whether or not solutions of the incompressible Navier– Stokes equation in three space dimensions would develop singularities in finite time. Therefore, it may be still interesting to construct special solutions of the 3-dimensional Navier–Stokes equation. In this note, we construct a one-parameter family of explicit smooth solutions of the 3-dimensional impressible Navier–Stokes equation on R\p, where p is any given point. These solutions are axisymmetric, homogeneous of degree −1. They are steady solutions to the Navier–Stokes equations and also solve the self-similar

Abstract:We study the incompressible stationary Navier-Stokes equations in the upper-half plane with homogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition and non-zero external forcing terms. Existence of weak solutions is proved under a suitable condition on the external forces. Weak-strong uniqueness criteria based on various growth conditions at the infinity of weak solutions are also given. This is done by employing an energy estimate and a Hardy's inequality. Several estimates of stream functions are carried out and two density lemmas with suitable weights for the homogeneous Sobolev space on 2 dimensional space are proved.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the global existence and pointwise behavior of classical solution to one dimensional isentropic Navier-Stokes equations with mixed type boundary condition in half space. Based on classical energy method for half space problem, the global existence of classical solution is established firstly. Through analyzing the quantitative relationships of Green's function between Cauchy problem and initial boundary value problem, we observe that the leading part of Green's function for the initial boundary value problem is composed of three items: delta function, diffusive heat kernel, and reflected term from the boundary. Then applying Duhamel's principle yields the explicit expression of solution. With the help of accurate estimates for nonlinear wave coupling and the elliptic structure of velocity, the pointwise behavior of the solution is obtained under some appropriate assumptions on the initial data. Our results prove that the solution converges to the equilibrium state at the optimal decay rate \begin{document}$ (1+t)^{-\frac{1}{2}} $\end{document} in \begin{document}$ L^\infty $\end{document} norm.

Abstract:We construct self-similar solutions to the three dimensional Navier-Stokes equations for divergence free, self-similar initial data that can be large in the critical Besov space $\dot B^{-1+3/p}_{p,\infty}$ where $3< p< 6$. We also construct discretely self-similar solutions for divergence free initial data in $\dot B^{-1+3/p}_{p,\infty}$ for $3<p<6$ that is discretely self-similar for some scaling factor $\lambda>1$. These results extend those of \cite{BT1} which dealt with initial data in $L^3_w$ since $L^3_w\subsetneq \dot B^{-1+3/p}_{p,\infty}$ for $p>3$. We also provide several concrete examples of vector fields in the relevant function spaces.

Abstract:In this paper, we aim to study the global well-posedness and pointwise behavior of the classical solution to one-dimensional non-isentropic compressible Navier-Stokes equations in half space. Based on H(s )energy method, we first establish the global existence and uniqueness. To derive the accurate pointwise estimate of the solution, Green's function for the initial boundary value problem is investigated. It is shown that Green's function can be expressed in terms of a fundamental solution to the Cauchy problem. Then applying Duhamel's principle and nonlinear analysis yields the space-time estimate of the solution under some suitable assumptions on the initial data, which exhibits the rich wave structure. As a corollary, we prove that the solution converges to the equilibrium state at an algebraic time decay rate (1+ t)(-1/2 )in L-infinity norm with respect to the spatial variable.

Abstract:This paper proves that the 3-D Navier-Stokes system has a unique global solution under an assumpution on the initial data. That allow the data to be arbitrarily large in the scale invariant space \dot{B}_{\infty,\infty}^{-1}, which contains all the known spaces in which there is a global solution for small data. Moreover, this result provides various examples of arbitrarily large initial data giving rise to global solutions.

Abstract:We address the inviscid limit for the Navier–Stokes equations in a half space, with initial datum that is analytic only close to the boundary of the domain, and that has Sobolev regularity in the complement. We prove that for such data the solution of the Navier–Stokes equations converges in the vanishing viscosity limit to the solution of the Euler equation, on a constant time interval.

Abstract:We consider the large time behavior of the solution to the anisotropic Navier--Stokes equations in a $3$D half-space. Investigating the precise anisotropic nature of linearized solutions, we obtain the optimal decay estimates for the nonlinear global solutions in anisotropic Lebesgue norms. In particular, we reveal the enhanced dissipation mechanism for the third component of velocity field. We notice that, in contrast to the whole space case, some difficulties arises on the $L^1(\mathbb{R}^3_+)$-estimates of the solution due to the nonlocal operators appearing in the linear solution formula. To overcome this, we introduce suitable Besov type spaces and employ the Littlewood--Paley analysis on the tangential space.
