Abstract:A Schiff base hollow covalent organic framework (COF) was used for anchoring Pd(II) to synthesize the Pd@COF-TB nanocatalyst. Then, the as-synthesized Pd@COF-TB catalyst has been meticulously characterized using several methods. Thereafter, the catalytic performance of the Pd@COF-TB species regarding Suzuki-Miyaura coupling reactions was examined, and the corresponding products were obtained with good to excellent yields. Besides, the Pd@COF-TB catalyst could be recovered conveniently and reused at least eight times without obvious decrease in activity and selectivity. More importantly, the leaching of Pd during the reaction process could be negligible, which is crucially important when preparing bioactive species.

Abstract:Two series of amine-functionalized Zr-based mixed-linker metal-organic frameworks (MOFs; UiO-66-Mix and UiO-67-Mix) have been synthesized with different ratios of 1,4-benzenedicarboxylate/2-amino-1,4-benzenedicarboxylate and 4,4-biphenyldicarboxylic acid/2-amino-biphenyl-4,4-dicarboxylic acid incorporated into their structures. The pendant amino groups were postmodified by the condensation reaction with pyridine-2-carboxaldehyde, and Pd metal centers were anchored onto the MOFs by coordination to the pyridylimine moieties. The two series of heterogeneous Pd catalysts (UiO-66-Mix-PI-Pd and UiO-67-Mix-PI-Pd) were utilized for the Suzuki and Heck cross-coupling reactions in ethanol/water under mild reaction conditions and they showed a remarkably high catalytic activity. The porosity of the MOFs and the density of the metal binding sites of the Pd catalysts had great influence on the Suzuki and Heck cross-coupling reactions. The best results were achieved with a very low Pd loading (0.054mol%), and the use of UiO-67-3-PI-Pd catalyst led to the complete conversion of reaction substrates. Moreover, the catalysts were readily recovered and recycled in at least 10cycles without significant leaching or loss of catalytic activity. The catalysts were generally applicable for different reaction substrates with various substituents in both Suzuki and Heck reactions.

Abstract:We describe here a method to stabilize Pd(0) on the surface of hollow magnetic mesoporous spheres (HMMS), with Fe3O4 nanoparticles embedded in the mesoporous shell. The catalyst was characterized using TEM, XRD, VSM, BET and XPS. The catalyst afforded fast conversion for various aromatic nitro and unsaturated compounds in ethanol under an H2 atmosphere even at room temperature. The catalyst showed an efficient hydrogenation of unsaturated compounds rather than nitro compounds. Furthermore it was found that the catalyst also exhibited a high activity in the Suzuki coupling reaction. The catalyst could be recovered in a facile manner from the reaction mixture and recycled six times without any loss in activity.

Abstract:We here report the synthesis, characterization and catalytic performance of new supported Pd(0) and Pd(II) catalysts. The catalysts were characterized by TEM, XRD, FT-IR, VSM and ICP. The catalysts were found to be active in both forms, Pd(0) and Pd(II), for hydrogenation and Suzuki cross-coupling reactions. In contrast to most supported catalysts, the newly developed catalysts were prepared using nearly the same synthetic strategy, and were easily recovered and recycled from the reaction mixture by applying an external magnet and reused in 5 cycles without significant loss in activity.

Abstract:Fe3O4 and Pd nanoparticles were assembled on sulfonated graphene (s-G) by an easy chemical approach and characterized by transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The resulting material could be dispersed homogeneously in water or water/ethanol and further used as an excellent semi-heterogeneous catalyst for the Suzuki–Miyaura cross-coupling reaction in an environmentally friendly solvent under ligand-free ambient conditions. The high heterogeneous catalytic activity appears to be due to the small size of Pd nanoparticles and homogeneous distribution of the nanoparticles on the Fe3O4/s-G matrix. In addition, the catalytic activity did not deteriorate even after repeated applications, which may be due to the easy and efficient magnetic separation of the catalyst and the high dispersion and stability of the catalyst in an aqueous solution.

Abstract:Supported Pd catalysts have been widely studied due to their enormous potential as candidates for heterogeneous Suzuki–Miyaura coupling reactions. However, the sintering and low activity of active sites still remain challenges. A vesicle‐shaped LaFeO3‐supported Pd catalyst (I‐Pd/LaFeO3) was successfully fabricated using the impregnation method and tested for the Suzuki–Miyaura coupling reaction. Compared to P‐Pd/LaFeO3 prepared with photo‐deposition and Pd/Al2O3 prepared with impregnation, the I‐Pd/LaFeO3 catalyst exhibits significantly higher catalytic activity, stability, and reusability. The chemical composition and electron states of different Pd‐based catalysts were well studied based on various characterizations and the results indicated that the excellent performance of I‐Pd/LaFeO3 can be attributed to its unique nanostructure and the strong interactions between LaFeO3 and palladium nanoparticles. The impregnation method and the choice of the LaFeO3 support show a great influence on the electronic properties of Pd species, their reducibility, and, consequently, their reaction behavior. This unique LaFeO3 supported Pd catalyst provided an environmentally friendly heterogeneous method for the Suzuki–Miyaura coupling reaction.

Abstract:Nanoporous PdCu (NP-PdCu) was prepared by the dealloying strategy from a PdCuAl ternary alloy precursor and characterized systematically using SEM, TEM, XRD, and XPS. NP-PdCu was demonstrated to be a competent self-supported heterogenous catalyst for Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling, affording a series of synthetically valuable biaryl compounds in good to excellent yields. This catalyst could be easily separated from the product via centrifugation and reused several times without obvious loss of catalytic performance.

Abstract:An efficient and recyclable Pd nano-catalyst was developed via immobilization of Pd nanoparticles on polyimide linked covalent organic frameworks (PCOFs) that was facilely prepared through condensation of melamine and 3,3′,4,4′-biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride. The Pd nanoparticles (Pd NPs) catalyst was thoroughly characterized by FT-IR, XRD, SEM, TEM. Furthermore, the catalytic activity of Pd NPs catalyst was evaluated by Suzuki–Miyaura coupling reaction and nitroarene reduction in water, respectively. The excellent yields of corresponding products revealing revealed that the Pd NPs catalyst could be applied as an efficient and reusable heterogeneous catalyst for above two reactions.Graphical Abstract

Abstract:A novel Fe3O4@Si–NHC–Pd catalyst with N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) moiety as an alternative ligand to phosphines for metal complexes has been synthesized and characterized by various methods. Synthesis of metal nanoparticles has been accomplished without aggregation, and the prepared catalyst has been applied in theSuzuki–Miyaura cross-coupling reaction of boronic acids and aryl halides in water using Et3N as a base. The catalyst has demonstrated high efficiency at room temperature and can be easily removed from the reaction media using an external magnetic field and recycled at least five times without significant decrease of its activity.

Abstract:Abstract Magnetic Fe 3 O 4 nanoparticles (NPs) functionalized with carbon dots (C‐dots) that contain carboxylic acid and hydroxyl groups were synthesized successfully and used for the reduction of Pd II and the formation of Pd NPs. The new material was characterized by SEM, TEM, energy‐dispersive spectroscopy, solid UV spectroscopy, vibrating sample magnetometry, XRD, and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy and was used as a very efficient catalyst in the Suzuki–Miyaura cross‐coupling reaction of aryl bromides and chlorides with arylboronic acids in aqueous media. Design of experiments indicates that the use of 0.22 mol % of Pd, K 2 CO 3 as the base, and aqueous ethanol are the best reaction conditions. The reactions of aryl bromides take place at room temperature, and aryl chlorides react at 80 °C. The easily synthesized and air‐stable catalyst Pd@C‐dots@Fe 3 O 4 NPs could be separated from the reaction mixture by using an external magnet and reused in eight consecutive runs with no significant loss of catalytic activity.

Abstract:This work reported the preparation of nanostructured palladium (Pd)-based catalysts that consisted of a magnetic core covered by a layer of functionalized mesoporous silica with Pd nanoparticles grown in situ within the porous channels (Fe3O4@mSiO2-Pd). The optimum Fe3O4@mSiO2-Pd with fine size and uniformly dispersed Pd nanoparticles was obtained on the amino (-NH2) functionalized magnetic mesoporous silica support with Na2PdCl4 as the Pd source. The performance of the synthesized Fe3O4@mSiO2-Pd was evaluated in the catalytic reduction of nitroarenes in aqueous solution with H2(g) as a reducing agent under ambient pressure and temperature. Compared with commercial Pd/SiO2, Fe3O4@mSiO2-Pd exhibited significantly improved reactivity in the reduction of various nitroarenes, which were completely reduced to the corresponding aminoarenes. The enhanced performance of Fe3O4@mSiO2-Pd may be attributed to the formation of small and well dispersed Pd nanoparticles within the confined support and the enhanced accessibility of reactive Pd sites within the mesoporous structure. Furthermore, the Fe3O4@mSiO2-Pd catalyst also showed excellent reusability and could be easily collected by an external magnetic field. Results suggested that the synthesized Fe3O4@mSiO2-Pd can be an effective and sustainable catalyst for hydrogenation of nitro-containing compounds.

Abstract:Ultrafine and highly dispersed Pd nanoparticles have drawn considerable attention with high activity, selectivity and atomic efficiency. In this paper, amorphous Pd(II)-complex solid spheres with ∼ 5 nm Pd nanoparticles loaded on were successfully achieved through a simple and gentle one-pot solution method with vitamin B1 simultaneously as complexing agent and reducing agent. An ultrathin mesoporous SiO2 shell was then coated at the surface of Pd(II-0) spheres as the armor which could prevent the dissolution of Pd(II) during the catalytic process. The combination of Pd(II) and Pd(0) endowed Pd(II-0)@m-SiO2 catalyst an excellent performance in eco-friendly aqueous media Suzuki reactions. The high activity, productivity and recyclability were all comparable with the best Pd catalysts ever reported. The ingenious formation of amorphous Pd(II)/crystal Pd(0) with enhanced catalytic performances provides a new, scalable strategy to practical promotion of Suzuki cross-coupling reactions.

Abstract:Immobilization of highly monodispersed palladium nanoparticles in colloidal mesoporous silica supports has been successfully achieved. The Pd nanoparticles with a uniform small size of ∼1.2 nm can be homogeneously distributed in individual mesopore channels of amino group-functionalized three-dimensional dendritic mesoporous silica nanospheres (3D-dendritic MSNSs) with a Pd content of ∼2.8%. The 3D-dendritic MSNSs-based nanoreactors show high activity in Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reactions of bromobenzene with phenylboronic acid, obtaining a yield over 99% with 0.075 mol % Pd catalyst at room temperature in the dark within 12 h. More importantly, the excellent catalytic performance can be maintained with a negligible decrease lasting at least six cycles. It further reveals that the mesoporous frameworks of the colloidal silica supports can be well-preserved after four catalytic runs; meanwhile, the Pd nanoparticles in the mesopore channels also can remain the sizes of 1.5±0.3 nm without significant transfer and aggregation. The unique mesostructure of the 3D-dendritic MSNSs with mesopore channels of short length and large diameter is supposed to be the key role in immobilization of active and robust heterogeneous catalysts, and it would have more hopeful prospects in catalytic applications.
