Abstract:Magnetic, electronic, and thermal transport properties of Eu0.55Sr0.45MnO3 have been experimentally studied. The compound is found to exhibit a complex magnetic behavior with the change of temperature and magnetic field. Without magnetic field, it stays in a Griffiths-like state in a wide temperature range above similar to 100 K, characterized by the presence of ferromagnetic (FM) clusters of the size of similar to 8 Mn ions, and an antiferromagnetic (AFM) state below similar to 100 K, evidenced by thermopower and heat conductivity. FM phase emerges and grows in the AFM matrix with applied field, resulting in a series of phase transitions from the paramagnetic (PM) state first to the AFM state, then to the FM and the AFM states upon cooling (similar to 0.8 T < H similar to 2.3 T). The AFM state is unstable under high fields, and the high- and low-temperature AFM transitions are depressed by the fields above similar to 1 and similar to 2.3 T, respectively. The FM transition is incomplete when the field is below similar to 1.5 T, leading to a coexistence of the FM and PM (or AFM) phases in the intermediate temperature range. A spin-glass-like behavior is observed in the AFM background below similar to 50 K. Significant response of resistance, thermopower, and heat conduction to magnetic transition, either FM or AFM transition, has been observed. Unlike the typical AFM manganites, for which usually a depression of thermal conduction occurs at the AFM state, the AFM transition in Eu0.55Sr0.45MnO3 enhances the thermal conduction. From the PM phase to the AFM phase and to the FM phase, thermal conductivity increases monotonically. A remarkable result of the present work is the different behaviors of thermopower and resistivity. The former displays a metallic behavior below a distinct temperature that is significantly lower than the metal-to-insulator transition temperature determined by resistivity. Furthermore, thermopower remains metallic while the resistivity shows up an upturn due to the AFM transition in the low-temperature range under the field of 1.5 T. Based on these data, a magnetic phase diagram is proposed.
Large Magnetoresistance and Large Magnetothermopower Effect in the Dirac Material EuMn0.8Sb2.

Abstract:In this article, the structure, transport and magnetic properties were studied in details for EuMn0.8Sb2 crystals with the orthorhombic structure and Mn deficiencies. It was found that the temperature dependence of the resistivity exhibits a metallic behavior in the whole measuring temperature range, different from that in the crystals without Mn deficiencies. A large positive magnetoresistance (MR) (similar to 127% at 2 K and similar to 25% at 300 K, in 9 T field) was observed, which can be ascribed to the combination of semiclassical MR and quantum limit MR of Dirac electrons. We also observed the high mobility of the carriers and large magnetothermopower effect at low temperatures, and two magnetic transitions emerging at similar to 24 K and similar to 10 K, respectively, corresponding to the antiferromagnetic ordering and canted arrangement of the Eu moments. Our findings shed new light on the intrinsic properties of EuMn0.8Sb2 and demonstrate the existence of Dirac fermions.

Abstract:The effects of Y-doping on the magnetic, dielectric and ferroelectric properties of EuMnO3 were carefully investigated through a series of polycrystalline Eu1-xYxMnO3 (x = 0, 0.15, 0.25, 0.3 and 0.5) samples prepared by solid state reaction. The Y-doping reduces the A-site ionic size and then the Mn-O-Mn bond angle. It is postulated that upon the doping, the magnetic ground state firstly changes to a conical spin order at x = 0.15 and then a spiral spin order for higher doping. The ferroelectric transitions appear at the conical and spiral spin order transition points similar to 25 K, and a polarization similar to 90 mu C/m(2) is achieved in sample with x = 0.25. Structure-dependent spin-polarized electron transport in twin-crystal Cu1- xEuxO semiconductors

Abstract:In this work, Eu-doped twin copper oxide (twin Cu1-xEuxO) was synthesized using the gas-liquid phase chemical deposition method in combination with high-temperature oxidation. The incorporation of Eu3+ ions was affected by their diffusivity and the related charge trapping mechanisms. The twin Cu1-xEuxO configuration exhibited significant room-temperature ferromagnetism. From our analysis, it was demonstrated that as the Eu3+ doping concentration increased, the saturation magnetization first increased and then gradually decreased, reaching a peak at 0.82 at%. A p-type to an n-type semiconducting transition was also recorded as the doping concentration increased. A significant anomalous Hall effect characterized by a maximum anomalous Hall coefficient of 1.65, and a maximum Hall conductivity mobility of 16.50 Ohm-1 cm-1 and 250.59 cm2 v-1 s-1, respectively, were derived for the twin Cu1-xEuxO, doped with 0.82 at% at room temperature. First-principles computational simulations were also conducted to elucidate the underlying mechanisms of the magnetic properties, the p-type to n-type transition, and the interplay between the spin-polarized states associated with 4f and carriers. In twin Cu1-xEuxO, the anomalous Hall effect originated from the contribution of the edge-to-jump scattering mechanism. The latter can be significantly enhanced by doping with Eu atoms, which yields the manifestation of the oblique scattering mechanism. Our work paves the way for the development of twin Cu1-xEuxO material structures, which emerge as an ideal candidate for future spintronic applications.

Abstract:Copper-doped (Tb0.861Mn0.121)MnO3-δ has been synthesized by the conventional solid state reaction method. X-ray, neutron, and electron diffraction data indicate that they crystallize in Pnma space group at room temperature. Two magnetic orderings are found for this series by neutron diffraction. One is the ICAM (incommensurate canted antiferromagnetic) ordering of Mn with a wave vector qMn = (∼0.283, 0, 0) with a ≈ 5.73 Å, b ≈ 5.31 Å, and c ≈ 7.41 Å, and the other is the CAM (canted antiferromagnetic) ordering of both Tb and Mn in the magnetic space group Pn'a21' with a ≈ 5.73 Å, b ≈ 5.31 Å, and c ≈ 7.41 Å. A dielectric peak around 40 K is found for the samples doped with Cu, which is higher than that for orthorhombic TbMnO3.

Abstract:Owing to the strong neutron absorption of 151Eu, 151Eu free 153EuMnO3-δ has been synthesized to collect the neutron diffraction data for analyzing the magnetic structure of EuMnO3-δ. The obtained neutron diffraction data of 153EuMnO3-δ indicates that the magnetic diffraction peaks corresponding to cAAFM (canted A-type antiferromagnetic) phase can be observed, but the magnetic diffraction peaks corresponding to expected ICAFM (incommensurate antiferromagnetic) phase may be too weak to be observed.

Abstract:We have studied the crystal and magnetic structures of Fe-doped hexagonal manganites LuMn1-xFexO3 (x = 0, 0.1, 0.2, and 0.3) by using bulk magnetization and neutron powder diffraction methods. The samples crystalize consistently in a hexagonal structure and maintain the space group P63cm from 2 to 300 K. The N\'eel temperature TN increases continuously with increasing Fe-doping. In contrast to a single {\Gamma}4 representation in LuMnO3, the magnetic ground state of the Fe-doped samples can only be described with a spin configuration described by a mixture of {\Gamma}3 (P63'cm') and {\Gamma}4 (P63'c'm) representations, whose contributions have been quantitatively estimated. The drastic effect of Fe-doping is highlighted by composition-dependent spin reorientations. A phase diagram of the entire composition series is proposed based on the present results and those reported in literature. Our result demonstrates the importance of tailoring compositions in increasing magnetic transition temperatures of multiferroic systems.

The magnetic and specific heat features reveal two successive antiferromagnetic (AFM) transitions exist separately at T N 1 ∼ 21 K and T N 2 ∼ 9 K, which have different responses to external magnetic field, and magnetic anisotropy is enhanced as the temperature is below T N 1 . When the magnetic field is about 1.7 T and parallels the a -axis of the EuMnSb 2 crystal, a spin-flop transition of the AFM order appears. Electronic transport measurements show that the single crystal of EuMnSb 2 manifests semiconductor characteristic and magnetic field-induced semiconductor-to-metal transitions. In addition, we observe a colossal negative magnetoresistance for both in-plane and out-of-plane resistivity and two-fold period anisotropic magnetoresistance. Combining magnetic susceptibility, specific heat capacity and resistivity properties, we present a phase diagram which can be divided into AFM semiconductor, paramagnetic semiconductor and paramagnetic metal. These unique properties indicate that EuMnSb 2 can provide a platform for investigating the interplay between magnetic order, and charge transport.

Abstract:Zn 1 − x Mn x O nanoparticles synthesized by a combustion method with Mn concentration x up to 0.40 are carefully characterized by means of x-ray powder diffraction and high resolution transmission electron microscopy. Single-phase solid solution Zn1−xMnxO is achieved with a solubility limit of ∼30 at. % Mn. An almost linear dependence of lattice constant on the Mn content is observed, indicating the homogeneous substitution of Mn2+ for the Zn2+ in wurtzite ZnO. Magnetization at T=5 K and H=5 T exhibits a maximum around the Mn doping concentration of xm=0.125. Room temperature ferromagnetism with low coercive field (Hc∼70±5 Oe) is obtained for the sample with x=0.01. The observed magnetic properties of Zn1−xMnxO can be well understood within the framework of the donor impurity band exchange model.

Abstract:The lower valence compensation of YMn1-xCuxO3 (x = 0.00, 0.05, and 0.10) is prepared by the solid-state reaction, and the effects of divalent cation Cu-doping on the construction and magnetic and dielectric attributes of multiferroic YMnO3 are systemically researched. Powder X-ray diffraction shows YMn1-xCuxO3 has a single-phase hexagonal construction with a P63cm space group as the parent YMnO3, and lattice parameters decrease systematically as Cu concentration increases. Using the scanning electric microscope, structure morphologies analysis shows that the mean grain size varies between 1.90 and 2.20 μm as Cu content increases. YMn1-xCuxO3 magnetization increases as Cu doping concentration increases, and the antiferromagnetic transition temperature declines from 71 K for x = 0.00 to 58 K for x = 0.10. The valence distributions of Mn ions conduce to the modified magnetic attributes. Due to Cu substitution, the dielectric loss and dielectric constant decline as frequency increases from 400 to 700 K, showing representative relaxation behaviors. Indeed, that is a thermally activated process. In addition, the peak of the dielectric loss complies with the Arrhenius law. The relaxation correlates to the dipole effect regarding carrier hopping between Mn3+ and Mn4+, and also correlates to oxygen vacancies generated by Mn2+.

Abstract:Ferromagnetic properties have been observed in CuO doped with 3.5–15 at. % of Mn. The transition from ferromagnetic to paramagnetic phase at TC=80 K is associated with the metal–insulator transition. Magnetoresistance is weakly negative in the vicinity of the transition, but positive in a wide range of temperatures below TC. The experimental results suggest a possibility of interpretation in terms of the Zener double-exchange mechanism and strong electron–phonon interactions.

Abstract:The single phase ErFe(x)Mn1-xO3 (0 < or = x < or = 0.15) compounds were synthesized by the solid-state reaction method. The doping effects on the crystal structural, magnetic, thermal, and dielectric properties were systematically investigated. The XRD patterns show all samples crystallize in the hexagonal structure with P6(3)cm space group. The lattice parameters a and c first decrease with doping, which is followed by a subsequent increase at higher doping levels. Although both the Fe3+ and Mn3+ ions remain stable in high spin trivalent states in all samples, the magnetization is weakened with increasing Fe contents. The heat capacity data shows the antiferromagnetic transition slightly shifts from 77 K for ErMnO3 to 80 K for ErFe015Mn0.85O3, which can not be observed in the magnetic susceptibility data. The real part of complex impedance of these samples rises as the doping level increases, indicating the enhancement of insulativity of doped samples.

Abstract:The hexagonal EuMX (M=Cu, Ag, Au; X=P, As, Sb, Bi) compounds host interesting electronic and magnetic properties, with seemingly intertwined topology and transport properties. One key feature of such behavior is the nature of the ordered magnetic structure. In EuCuAs, a topological Hall effect is caused by a conical spin structure that emerges when a field is applied within the easy-plane (H ⊥ c) of the helical ground state that exists below the Neel temperature of TN=14K . On the other hand, EuCuP is an easy-axis ferromagnet with a Curie temperature TC near 31 K. Here, we investigate the evolution of the magnetic properties in EuCuAs1−xPx single crystals with 0.16 ≤x≤ 0.75 . Crystals grown by cooling slowly in a Sn flux possessed macroscale inhomogeneity of As/P, particularly for arsenic-rich crystals. However, growth in a Sn flux via an isothermal dwell at 600∘C produced crystals that were homogeneous within the resolution of the probes utilized to investigate these crystals. The unit cell volumes, Curie-Weiss temperatures, and magnetic transitions trend linearly with composition and the magnetic anisotropy is reduced in the alloys. The magnetization data of crystals with x=0.16 and 0.24 indicate an easy-plane antiferromagnetic ground state while behavior similar to ferromagnetism is observed for crystals with x≥ 0.41 . The temperature-dependent magnetization data possess multiple transitions for compositions near EuCuAs0.75P0.25 , revealing a competition of ground states in this arsenic-rich region of the phase diagram. Abstract:In the present investigation, the sol–gel auto-combustion process was used to synthesize spinel ferrite nanoparticles Cu 1−x Co x Eu 0.025 Fe 1.975 O 4 with x = 0.0, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, and 1. Through the use of various techniques such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersion X-ray analysis (EDX), Fourier transform Infrared analysis (FTIR), and magnetic measurements, the as-prepared ferrite nanoparticles have been examined and characterized. The X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectra confirmed the presence of a tetragonal spinel structure in the sample ( x = 0), and the structure transformed into a cubic spinel with a space group of Fd3m as the Co content was increased. The lattice parameter changed from tetragonal phase with a = 5.820 Å and c = 8.710 Å for x = 0.00 to cubic phase with a = 8.372 Å for x = 1.00. The crystal size increases from 23.45 nm for x = 0.00 to 25.03 for x = 1.00 with increase in the amount of Co 2+ content. The cation distribution for Cu 1− x Co x Eu 0.025 Fe 1.975 O 4 spinel ferrites has been estimated. Scanning electron microphotographs (SEM) of the prepared spinel ferrite samples demonstrated well-defined crystalline nanoparticles. The existence of every major element (Co, Cu, Fe, Eu, and O) and no discernible impurities in the samples is confirmed by the EDX analysis. FTIR spectra of Cu 1− x Co x Eu 0.025 Fe 1.975 O 4 committed the formation of the spinel nanoferrites and confirmed the solid-state reaction completion. The values of saturation magnetization ( M s ), coercivity ( H c ), remnant magnetization ( M r ), magnetic moment ( μ B ), squareness ratio ( M r / M s ) and anisotropy constant ( K ) have been estimated from the magnetic measurements. The ( M s ) values increase from 22.561 emu/g for x = 0.00 to 68.794 emu/g for x = 1.00 while the ( H c ) values decrease from 1898Oe for x = 0.00–1023 Oe for x = 1.00 with increasing the Co 2+ content. The minor Eu +3 doped Cu 1− x Co x Eu 0.025 Fe 1.975 O 4 nanoferrites's switching field distribution (SFD) evaluations were calculated by considering the first derivative of the demagnetization data.

Abstract:A simple chemical vapor deposition technique has been employed to realize Zn1-xMnxO hollow spherical structures with room temperature ferromagnetism. We propose a special experimental scheme for the appropriate growth temperature, which could not only realize effective evaporation of the source materials, but also make further vaporization of the Zn enclosed in the Mn-doped ZnO layer and avoid the formation of Mn-related oxides on the substrates. A series of controlled experiments have been carried out for better understanding the formation mechanism. The morphology, structure, and composition have been investigated by field-emission scanning electron microscopy, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and energy dispersive X-ray analysis, indicating that Mn2+ was successfully substituted into the Zn2+ site. Raman results show an additional mode (520-530 cm(-1)) in the doped samples due to the lattice defects triggered by Mn doping. Multipeak Gaussian fitting of the photoluminscence spectra exhibits an emission related to the d-d transition of Mn2+ from the ground state (6)A(1)(G) to the excited state E-4(G). The origin of the room temperature ferromagnetism has been attributed to the magnetic coupling between Mn atoms.

Abstract:Solid solutions of Pb1-xTbxTi1-xMnxO3 (0≤x≤0.10) were synthesized by a traditional solid state reaction and characterized by powder X-ray diffraction. The solutions crystallize in the P4mm space group at room temperature. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) measurements were performed to obtain phase transition temperatures (Tc) for the samples, and these were found to decrease with an increase in the amount of doped Tb and Mn. The temperature dependent dielectric constant shows a peak close to the Tc, indicating that the corresponding phase transition is a ferroelectric phase transition. Magnetic measurements indicate that a paramagnetic to antiferromagnetic phase transition occurs at 25 and 29 K for Pb1-xTbxTi1-xMnxO3 with x=0.08 and x=0.10, respectively.
