Abstract:The catalytic construction of silicon-carbon bond is one of the most important and key processes in organosilicon chemistry and remains an ongoing challenge in homogeneous catalysis. Herein we report an unprecedent and convenient palladium-catalyzed Si-C(sp3) bond-forming cross-coupling silylation of benzyl halides with structurally diverse hydrosilanes, which provides a direct and chemoselective approach to the facile synthesis of various silanes and their derivatives with moderate to good yields. The phosphine-controlled and B(C6F5)-assisted Pd-catalyzed C(sp3)-Si cross-coupling silylation exhibits good functional group tolerances and demonstrates a powerful potential of silicon-based cross coupling reaction for the preparation of structurally diverse benzyl silanes. This protocol also features simple reaction conditions, wide substrate scope, high chemoselectivity, and environmentally benign, offering a new pathway for the synthesis of tri-or tertiary-substituted functional organosilicon compounds.

Abstract:Here, we report a cobalt-catalyzed sequential dehydrogenative Heck silylation/hydroamination of styrenes with hydrosilane and diazo compound to access 1-amino-2-silyl compounds with excellent regioselectivity. This difunctionalization reaction could undergo smoothly using 1 mol% catalyst loading with good functional group tolerance. Not only di- and tri-substituted hydrosilanes, but also alkoxysilane are suitable, which does explore the scope of the family of 1-amino-2-silyl compounds. The ligand relay phenomenon between neutral tridentate NNN ligand and anionic NNN ligand is observed for the first time via absorption spectra analysis in this one-pot, two-step transformations. The primary mechanism has been proposed based on the control experiments.

Abstract:An Rh(I)-catalyzed cross-coupling of diazoesters with arylsiloxanes has been successfully achieved. This transformation is a new method for the construction of the C(sp(3))-C(sp(2)) bond, thus providing an alternative synthesis of α-aryl esters. Rh(I)-carbene migratory insertion has been proposed to be involved in this coupling reaction. The reaction represents the first example of utilizing arylsiloxane as the coupling partner in the carbene-involved cross-coupling reactions.

Abstract:Experiments indicate that a catalytic amount of CuI plays an important role in the siloxane-mediated Pd-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions with the direct use of organolithium reagents. Addition of organolithium to the siloxane transfer agent generates an organosilicon intermediate. DFT calculations indicate that CuI initially accelerates the Si-Pd(II) transmetalation of the organosilicon intermediate by the formation of CuI2−. Subsequently, CuI2− works as a shuttle between the Si-Cu(I) and Cu(I)-Pd(II) transmetalation processes.

Abstract:The benzamide-derived P,O-ligands efficiently promoted the Pd-catalyzed Suzuki cross-coupling reactions of aryl bromides with phenylboronic acid at 0.01 mol % of Pd loading at 60-80degreesC to form biaryls in excellent yields. A sterically hindered arylboronic acid gave a quantitative yield of the coupling product at 110degreesC with 1 mol % Pd. (C) 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Abstract:The methods for the cross‐coupling of aryl(trialkyl)silanes are long‐standing challenges due to the extreme inertness of C‐Si(R3) bond, though the reaction is environmentally friendly and highly regioselective to synthesize biaryls. Herein, we report a copper‐catalyzed cross‐coupling of aryl(trialkyl)silanes and aryl via a radical mechanism. The reaction proceeds efficiently with aryl sulfonium salts as limiting reagents, exhibits broad substrate scope, and provides an important synthetic strategy to acquire biaryls, exemplified by unsymmetrical fluorescence probes and late‐stage functionalization of drugs. Of note, the experimental and theoretical mechanistic studies revealed a radical mechanism where the copper catalyst and CsF play critical roles on the radical generation and desilylation process.

Abstract:Rhodium(III)-catalyzed C-H arylation of arenes with phenylboronic acid pinacol esters has been achieved using a readily removable N-pentafluorophenylbenzamide directing group for the first time. Abstract:Reported herein is the first example of C(<i>sp</i>)-H/Si-H cross-coupling by photocatalysis. In terms of cheap and readily available starting materials, a series of alkynylsilanes are prepared in good to excellent yields upon visible-light irradiation of CuCl and alkynes with silane. The large scale reaction with flow chemistry and late-stage functionalization of natural products shows the potential of the transformation in practical organic synthesis of the alkynylsilanes intermediates.

Abstract:Eleven neutral ligands were investigated in promoting the calcium‐catalyzed cross‐dehydrocoupling reaction between phenylsilane and diisopropylamine. Among them, N‐heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligand IiPr2Me2 (1,3‐diisopropyl‐4,5‐dimethylimidazol‐2‐ylidene) displayed superior activity and selectivity. The first neutral NHC‐supported alkyl calcium complex {(IiPr2Me2)2Ca[CH(SiMe3)2]2} (4) was subsequently synthesized and characterized by NMR spectroscopy and X‐ray crystallography. Complex 4 displayed high activity and excellent chemoselectivity in the catalytic cross‐dehydrocoupling reactions between bulky amines and silanes under mild conditions. The asymmetric version was also achieved by combining Ca[CH(SiMe3)2]2 with a chiral NHC ligand, which afforded an optically active silicon stereogenic silazane in 26 % ee.

Abstract:Here, we demonstrate palladium-catalyzed Hiyama-type cross-coupling reactions of aryl thianthrenium or phenoxathiinium salts. By employing stable and inexpensive organosilanes, the arylation, alkenylation, and alkynylation were realized in high efficiency using commercially available Pd(tBu3P)2 as the catalyst, thus providing a reliable method for preparation of biaryls, styrenes, and aryl acetylenes with a broad functional group tolerance under mild conditions. Given the accessibility of aryl thianthrenium or phenoxathiinium salts from simple arenes in a remarkable regioselective fashion, this protocol also provides an attractive approach for the late-stage modification of complex bioactive scaffolds.

Abstract:In the presence of Na2CO3 the combination of PdCl2(dppf), dppp and CuI catalyzes the decarbonylative coupling of arylcarboxylic acid 2-pyridyl esters with terminal alkynes to afford 1,2-disubstituted acetylenes. (Hetero)aryl, alkyl, and silylacetylenes and various electron-donor and -withdrawing group-substituted arylcarboxylic acid 2-pyridyl esters can be used in this transformation. A range of functional groups can be compatible.
