3 T MR arthrography and conventional MRI for acetabular labral tear

Abstract:Objective To compare the performance of 3 T MR arthrography and conventional MRI for diagnosing acetabular labrum tear.Methods Conventional MRI and MR arthrography of the hips of 53 patients were retrospectively analyzed by two radiologists independently.The MR findings were compared to hip arthroscopy.Results Of 53 patients,acetabular labral tear was arthroscopically confirmed in 31.The sensitivity,specificity,accuracy,positive predictive value (PPV) and negative predictive value (NPV) of MR arthrography for assessing the acetabular labral tear were 90.32％,77.27％,84.91％,84.85％,and 85.00％ for one radiologist,93.55％,77.27％,86.79％,85.29％,and 89.47％ for the second radiologist with good inter-observer consistency (k=0.797).The sensitivity,specificity,accuracy,PPV and NPV of conventional MRI for evaluating the acetabular labral tear were 54.84％,72.73％,62.26％,73.91％,and 53.33％ for the first radiologist,61.29％,77.27％,67.92％,79.17％,and 58.62％ for the second radiologist with good inter-observer consistency (k=0.733).The sensitivity,accuracy and NPV of MR arthrography for diagnosing acetabular labral tear were significantly higher than those of conventional MRI (P＜0.05).Conclusion 3 T MR arthrography of the hip is reliable and superior to conventional MRI for diagnosing acetabular labral tear.
