Abstract:meta/ortho-Selective C-Ar-H (di) alkylation reactions of azoarenes have been achieved via [Ru(p-cymene)Cl-2](2) catalyzed ortho-metalation using various types of alkyl bromides. Particularly, dual meta-alkylation of azoarene and reduction offer an attractive strategy for the synthesis of meta-alkylanilines, which are difficult to access via traditional aniline functionalization methods.

Abstract:Application of an oxidative amination reagent (di-tert-butyldiaziridinone) to the Ru-3(CO)(12)-catalyzed ortho-selective C-Ar-H amination reaction is described. This strategy shows good functional group compatibility with various phenyl-substituted N-heterocycles, including biologically active substrates, thus providing synthetic potential for this methodology. Mechanistic studies showed that the reaction process involves an octahedral ruthenium species, and the carbon monoxide ligand plays a crucial role in the C-H activation.

Abstract:An efficient approach for the remote C-H alkylation of arenes, employing a variety of N-directing groups is described. This method facilitates the straightforward synthesis of valuable phenylethylamine derivatives by exclusively cleaving the benzylic C-N bond in aziridines. Furthermore, these products can easily remove the protecting groups, resulting in a variety of meta-substituted compounds, such as amines and ketones, which hold significance in synthetic chemistry.

Abstract:The Ru-catalyzed pyridyl-directed C-H allylation of arenes with allylic amines has been developed. This reaction was carried out in the presence of 5 mol% of [Ru(p-cymene)Cl-2](2) and 0.5 equiv. of AgOAc in CF3CH2OH at 75 degrees C, affording the allylated products of arenes in moderate to excellent yields. The method exhibits a wide scope of allylic amines and arenes and shows a good compatibility of functional groups. The pyrazolyl- and pyrimidyl-directed C-H allylation of arenes was also performed under the same conditions.

Abstract:A novel route for ruthenium( II)-catalyzed afluoroalkenylation of oxime ethers with gem-difluorostyrenes via C-H activation and C-F cleavage has been developed for the first time. Notably, the alkenyl units of products exhibit exclusive Z-configuration. This reaction features a broad substrate scope and good functional group tolerance. A plausible reaction mechanism is confirmed by an available cycloruthenated intermediate. Besides, the O-methyl oximyl-directing group can be readily removed to access the alpha-fluoroalkenylated acetophenones.

Abstract:The first example of transition-metal-catalyzed ortho/meta-selective dual C-H functionalizations of arenes in one reaction is described. In this transformation, ortho-C-H chlorination and meta-C-H sulfonation of 2-phenoxypyri(mi)dines were achieved simultaneously under catalysis by [Ru(p-cymene)Cl2]2. The other reactant, namely, an arylsulfonyl chloride, played the role of both a sulfonation and chlorination reagent. More importantly, the arylsulfonyl chloride was also an oxidant in the process. Mechanistic studies indicated that six-membered ruthenacycles were the key intermediate in the reaction.

Abstract:An efficient ruthenium(II)-catalyzed oxidative annulation reaction of various arylimidazolium salts with alkynes via N-heterocyclic carbene-directed CH activation to obtain substituted benzo[ij]imidazo[2,1,5-de]quinolizinium salts is reported. This catalytic reaction proceeds in an excellent regioselective manner when using unsymmetrical alkynes as reactants. The intermediate mono-annulated products can be obtained by reducing the amount of catalyst. Two catalytically competent N-heterocyclic carbene-based cyclometallated ruthenium(II) complexes have been isolated and characterized, which represent the key intermediates in the catalytic cycle. Moreover, most of the products show a strong fluorescent property, indicating their potential for making new light-emitting materials.

Abstract:Herein, we present a ruthenium-catalyzed new hydrogen evolution ortho-aminoalkylation of phenolic derivatives with cyclic amines as the coupling agents. The developed cross-coupling reaction offers a practical platform for direct access to a variety of functionalized phenols with the features of good substrate and functional group compatibility, readily available catalyst system and feedstocks, no need for additional sacrificial oxidants, and high atom efficiency.
