Abstract:Using the differential geometric control theory, we present the necessary and sufficient conditions under which an analytic affine nonlinear system with multiple inputs is equivalent to, via state transformation without feedback, a kind of extended Brunovsky canonical form. The proof is based on a new technique for applying the Frobenius Theorem in a more convenient way by converting a set of quasilinear partial differential equations with the same main portion to a set of homogeneous linear partial differential equations.

Abstract:An observable canonical form is formulated for the set of rational systems on a variety each of which is a single-input-single-output, affine in the input, and a minimal realization of its response map. The equivalence relation for the canonical form is defined by the condition that two equivalent systems have the same response map. A proof is provided that the defined form is well-defined canonical form. Special cases are discussed.

Abstract:In this paper, we discuss the classification problem for linear time-invariant multivariable systems without control. It turns out that the observability and stability are invariant for topological equivalent systems. Abstract results concerning system decomposition according to eigenvalues and observability are obtained. Finally, as concrete examples, the topological equivalence canonical forms for a three dimensional system equipped with a scalar observation are presented explicitly.

Abstract:The observability of nonlinear systems was considered in this note. First, we reviewed the definitions and relations of observable, locally observable, weakly observable, locally weakly observable, uniformly locally weakly observable and completely uniformly locally weakly observable. Then, a sufficient condition under which a multi-output nonlinear system is completely uniformly locally weakly observable was given. The sufficient condition becomes necessary and sufficient condition when the system is single-output. We also gave a canonical form of these multi-output systems. In the end, an example illustrated how to use the given sufficient conditions to determine whether a nonlinear system is completely uniformly locally weakly observable.

Abstract:The design of feedback controllers is undergoing a paradigm shift from modelic (i.e., model-driven) control to datatic (i.e., data-driven) control. Canonical form of state space model is an important concept in modelic control systems, exemplified by Jordan form, controllable form and observable form, whose purpose is to facilitate system analysis and controller synthesis. In the realm of datatic control, there is a notable absence in the standardization of data-based system representation. This paper for the first time introduces the concept of canonical data form for the purpose of achieving more effective design of datatic controllers. In a control system, the data sample in canonical form consists of a transition component and an attribute component. The former encapsulates the plant dynamics at the sampling time independently, which is a tuple containing three elements: a state, an action and their corresponding next state. The latter describes one or some artificial characteristics of the current sample, whose calculation must be performed in an online manner. The attribute of each sample must adhere to two requirements: (1) causality, ensuring independence from any future samples; and (2) locality, allowing dependence on historical samples but constrained to a finite neighboring set. The purpose of adding attribute is to offer some kinds of benefits for controller design in terms of effectiveness and efficiency. To provide a more close-up illustration, we present two canonical data forms: temporal form and spatial form, and demonstrate their advantages in reducing instability and enhancing training efficiency in two datatic control systems.

Abstract:The equivalence group is determined for systems of linear ordinary differential equations in both the standard form and the normal form. It is then shown that the normal form of linear systems reducible by an invertible point transformation to the canonical equation $\by^{(n)}=0$ consists of copies of the same iterative equation. Other properties of iterative linear systems are also derived, as well as the superposition formula for their general solution.

Abstract:The concept of irreducibility of MFD's at infinity is introduced. By merely considering common divisors at infinity, this concept turns out to be a complement of the well-known irreducibility for MFD's. A combination of these two naturally leads to the notion of complete irreducibility. The second part of the paper is devoted to show that for a so-called pseudo-proper MFD, a block controllable singular system realization can be obtained such that (1). the order of the realized singular system is equal to the generalized determinantal degree of the denominator (GDDD) of this MFD; (2). the realization is controllable; (3). it will be observable if and only if the MFD is completely irreducible. In the final part of the paper, we show that for an arbitrary MFD, any of its nth-order singular system realization (n is GDDD) will be jointly controllable and observable if and only if the MFD is completely irreducible, which is an interesting counterpart of the case for regular systems.

Abstract:We consider flat differential control systems for which there exist flat outputs that are part of the state variables and study them using Jacobi bound. We introduce a notion of saddle Jacobi bound for an ordinary differential system of $n$ equations in $n+m$ variables. Systems with saddle Jacobi number equal to $0$ generalize various notions of chained and diagonal systems and form the widest class of systems admitting subsets of state variables as flat output, for which flat parametrization may be computed without differentiating the initial equations. We investigate apparent and intrinsic flat singularities of such systems. As an illustration, we consider the case of a simplified aircraft model, providing new flat outputs and showing that it is flat at all points except possibly in stalling conditions. Finally, we present numerical simulations showing that a feedback using those flat outputs is robust to perturbations and can also compensate model errors, when using a more realistic aerodynamic model.

Abstract:Based on the inverse system, a control synthesis method is presented for the SISO linear continuous system in time domain. Several initial conditions to achieve the ideal inverse system control in special state-space model is deduced, and verified by simulation. The result shows that the system initial state has effect on its performance. Set the initial state of the controller as adjustable parameters, then the impact on the initial state of the object can be offset. Therefore, the command signal can be completely tracked by the system output, thus gives the ideal control.

Abstract:The objective of this paper is to present an algebraic theory for analyzing the infinite structures of singular systems. The key concept used in the development is the so-called homogeneous form for polynomial and rational matrices, which can be seen as a generalization of the well-known notion of homogeneous form for matrix pencils. We show how familiar concepts such as matrix fraction description, infinite poles and zeros, irreducibility, and cancellation at infinity appear naturally in this framework. The characterizations for some of these concepts are derived in terms of homogeneous forms. Considering singular systems to be alternative representations for (possibly nonproper) rational matrices, we are able to relate the fundamental concepts of controllability and reconstructibility for singular systems to the concept of complete coprimeness for rational matrices, and to relate the concept of minimal order of singular systems to the concept of the McMillan degree of rational matrices. As an important result, the equivalence relations among the concepts of joint controllability and reconstructibility, minimal order, and complete irreducibility are established. Moreover, we show that for any rational matrix factorized in matrix fraction description, the determinantal degree of the denominator matrix is the McMillan degree of the rational matrix if and only if the matrix fraction description is completely irreducible.

Abstract:In this paper, based on the inverse of block companion matrix pencils associated with matrix polynomials, a first-order state-space realization in descriptor system form for a general high-order linear system is derived. An important feature of the proposed realization is that it allows the high-order linear system to be singular. While in the case that the high-order system is nonsingular, two realizations in normal state-space system forms are directly deduced. With the help of the proposed realization, a generalized Popov Belevitch Hautus (PBH) criterion for high-order systems is then established in terms of the original system matrix polynomials. Examples are studied which well demonstrate the proposed theories.

Abstract:The observer design for nonlinear singular systems is discussed. First, for an index-one nonlinear singular systems, the stability and asymptotical stability with positive semi-definite Lyapunov functions are analyzed. Then, for nonlinear singular systems composed of linear and Lipschitz nonlinear terms, some sufficient conditions are proposed for the existence of asymptotically stable observer system. An algorithm is developed to calculate the observer gain, converting the original problem into admissible control of a linear singular system and the calculation of minimum singular value of the correspondingly closed system. It is proven that if the minimum singular value is greater than the Lipschitz constant of the nonlinear singular system, the admissible controller gain can serve as the observer gain.

Abstract:In this paper, several different concepts of controllability are investigated for a class of linear singular systems which system parameters are piecewise constant. Necessary and sufficient geometric criteria for C-controllability and R-controllability of such systems are established, respectively. These conditions can be easily transformed into algebraic form. By applying the principle of duality, C-observability is discussed as well. Furthermore, the intrinsic relationship between these results and existing results are also discussed. Then, a novel necessary, and sufficient criterion for C-controllability of linear time-invariant singular systems is derived as a byproduct.

Abstract:Synthesis and designing of variable structure controller for time-variant linear time-delay singular system is studied. Firstly, a new restricted system equivalent form is developed and the system is decomposed into two low dimensional subsystems. Secondly, switching function with integral compensator is designed and sufficient conditions on asymptotic stability of the sliding mode are given. Thirdly, variable structure controller is designed, which guarantee the solution trajectory of the system arrive at the slide manifold in finite time. Finally, a numerical example is given to demonstrate feasibility and simplicity of the design method.
