Abstract:We introduce a concept of measure-theoretic entropy for flows and study its invariance under measure-theoretic equivalences. Invariance properties of the corresponding topological entropy is studied too. We also answer a question posed by Bowen-Walters in [3] concerning the equality between the topological entropy of the time-one map of an expansive flow and the time-one map of its symbolic suspension.

Abstract: Given any $K>0$, we construct two equivalent $C^2$ flows, one of which has positive topological entropy larger than $K$ and admits zero as the exponential growth of periodic orbits, in contrast, the other has zero topological entropy and super-exponential growth of periodic orbits. Moreover we establish a $C^{\infty}$ flow on $\mathbb{S}^2$ with super-exponential growth of periodic orbits, which is also equivalent to another flow with zero exponential growth of periodic orbits. On the other hand, any two dimensional flow has only zero topological entropy.

Abstract:In this paper, we prove that entropy degeneracy and entropy explosion happen in the flow constructed by Ohno. We also construct a flow which has the only one invariant and ergodic measure supporting at a fixed point. This flow is no entropy explosion.

Abstract:In this paper, we construct a countable partition $${\cal A}$$ for flows with hyperbolic singularities by introducing a new cross section at each singularity. Such partition forms a Kakutani tower in a neighborhood of the singularity, and turns out to have finite metric entropy for every invariant probability measure. Moreover, each element of $${{\cal A}^\infty}$$ will stay in a scaled tubular neighborhood for arbitrarily long time. This new construction enables us to study entropy theory for singular flows away from homoclinic tangencies, and show that the entropy function is upper semi-continuous with respect to both invariant measures and the flows, provided that the limiting measure satisfies μ(Sing(X)) = 0.

Abstract:We introduce the Feldman-Katok pseudometric (FK-pseudometric for short) for flows. We then provide a characterization of zero entropy loosely Bernoulli measures for continuous flows via the FK-pseudometric extending the result known for discrete-time dynamical systems. We also provide a purely topological characterization of uniquely ergodic continuous flows whose unique invariant measure is zero entropy loosely Bernoulli.

Abstract:In discrete dynamical systems topological entropy is a topological invariant and a measurement of the complexity of a system. In continuous dynamical systems, in general, topological entropy deflned as usual by the time one map does not work so well in what concerns these aspects. The point is that the natural notion of equivalence in the discrete case is topological conjugacy which preserves time while in the continuous case the natural notion of equivalence is topological equivalence which allow reparametrizations of the orbits. The main issue happens in the case that the system has flxed points and will be our subject here.

Abstract:In this work we introduce and explore a rescaled-theory of local stable and unstable sets for rescaled-expansive flows and its applications to topological entropy. We introduce a rescaled version of the local unstable sets and the unstable points. We find conditions for points of the phase space to exhibit non-trivial connected pieces of such unstable sets. We apply these results to the problem of proving positive topological entropy for rescaled-expansive flows with non-singular Lyapunov stable sets.

Abstract:The H-infinity entropy in H-infinity control theory is discussed based on investigating information transmission in continuous-time linear stochastic systems. It is proved that the stabilizing feedback does not change the time-average information transmission between system input and output, and the H-infinity entropies of open- and closed-loop stable transfer functions are bounded by mutual information rate between input and output in the open-loop system. Furthermore, a new H-2 upper bound for H-infinity entropy is introduced with a numerical example. Thus the H. entropy of a stable transfer function is sandwiched between H-2 norms of the original system and a static feedback system.

Abstract:Based on the theory of Carathéodory structure, this paper introduces several definitions of entropies for impulsive semi-flows on arbitrary subsets. We compare these definitions and establish relations of these definitions. We show an inverse variational principle between topological -entropy and measure theoretic -entropy. Moreover, a variational principle of packing entropy of impulsive semi-flows is established.

Abstract:In this paper, we mainly focus on the set of non-dense points of a dynamical system. We study the distributional chaos in such set. As for a mixing expanding map or a transitive Anosov diffeomorphism on a compact connected manifold, we prove that DC1 chaos can occur in a zero topological entropy subset of the intersection of the set of recurrent points and the set of the non-dense points. Also, for such dynamical systems, strongly distributional chaos (which is stronger than DC1 chaos) can occur in a zero topological entropy subset of the set of non-recurrent points. Besides, when we divide the total space into six layers according to the different statistical structures, similar results can appear in every layer. Our results can also be applied to mixing subshifts of finite type, -shifts, homoclinic classes and diffeomorphisms preserving a weakly mixing hyperbolic ergodic measure.

Abstract:We study the topological entropy of the Lagrangian flow restricted to an energy level $E_{L}^{-1}(c) \subset TM$ for $ c >e_0(L)$. We prove that if the flow of the Tonelli Lagrangian $ L: M \to \mathbb{R}$, on a closed manifold of dimension $ n+1$, has a non-hyperbolic closed orbit or an infinite number of closed orbits with energy $ c>e_0(L)$ and satisfies certain open dense conditions, then there exist a smooth potential $ u: M\to \mathbb{R} $, with $ C^2$-norm arbitrarily small, such that the flow of the perturbed Lagrangian $ L_u=L-u$ restricted to $E_{L_u}^{-1}(c)$ has positive topological entropy. The proof of this result is based on an analog version of the Franks' Lemma for Lagrangian flows and Mañé's techniques on dominated splitting. As an application, we show that if $\dim (M)=2$ and $c > e_0(L)$, then $ L$ admits a $C^2$-perturbation by a smooth potential $u$, such that, the perturbed flow $\phi_t^{L_u}\big{|}_{E_{L_u}^{-1}(c)}$ has positive topological entropy.
