Abstract:The critical group of a connected graph is closely related to the graph Laplacian, and is of high research value in combinatorics, algebraic geometry, statistical physics, and several other areas of mathematics. In this paper, we study the k-partite graphs and introduce an algorithm to get the structure of their critical groups by calculating the Smith normal forms of their graph Laplacians. When k is from 2 to 6, we characterize the structure of the critical groups completely, which can generalize the results of the complete bipartite graphs.

Abstract:Let G be a finite group with identity e and be a subgroup of G . The generalized non-coprime graph of with respect to is the simple undirected graph with as the vertex set and two distinct vertices and are adjacent if and only if and either or , where | x | is the order of . In this paper, we study certain graph theoretical properties of generalized non-coprime graphs of finite groups, concentrating on cyclic groups. More specifically, we obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for the generalized non-coprime graph of a cyclic group to be in the class of stars, paths, triangle-free, complete bipartite, complete, split, claw-free, chordal or perfect graphs. Then we show that widening the class of groups to all finite nilpotent groups gives us no new graphs, but we give as an example of contrasting behaviour the class of EPPO groups (those in which all elements have prime power order). We conclude with a connection to the Gruenberg–Kegel graph.

Abstract:Let G be a group of order pn, p a prime. For 0 ⩽ m ⩽ n, sm(G) denotes the number of subgroups of order pm of G. Loo-Keng Hua and Hsio-Fu Tuan had ever conjectured: for an arbitrary finite p-group G, if p > 2, then sm(G) ≡ 1, 1+p, 1+p+p2 or 1+p+2p2(mod p3). The conjecture has a negative answer. In this paper, we further investigate the conjecture and propose two new conjectures.

Some Results on Critical ($P_5,H$)-free Graphs

Abstract:Given two graphs $H_1$ and $H_2$, a graph is $(H_1,H_2)$-free if it contains no induced subgraph isomorphic to $H_1$ nor $H_2$. A graph $G$ is $k$-vertex-critical if every proper induced subgraph of $G$ has chromatic number less than $k$, but $G$ has chromatic number $k$. The study of $k$-vertex-critical graphs for specific graph classes is an important topic in algorithmic graph theory because if the number of such graphs that are in a given hereditary graph class is finite, then there exists a polynomial-time certifying algorithm to decide the $k$-colorability of a graph in the class. In this paper, we show that: (1) for $k \ge 1$, there are finitely many $k$-vertex-critical $(P_5,K_{1,4}+P_1)$-free graphs; (2) for $s \ge 1$, there are finitely many 5-vertex-critical $(P_5,K_{1,s}+P_1)$-free graphs; (3) for $k \ge 1$, there are finitely many $k$-vertex-critical $(P_5,\overline{K_3+2P_1})$-free graphs. Moreover, we characterize all $5$-vertex-critical $(P_5,H)$-free graphs where $H \in \{K_{1,3}+P_1,K_{1,4}+P_1,\overline{K_3+2P_1}\}$ using an exhaustive graph generation algorithm.

Abstract:Let $\textrm{cr}(G)$ denote the crossing number of a graph $G$. The well-known Zarankiewicz's conjecture (ZC) asserted $\textrm{cr}(K_{m,n})$ in 1954. In 1971, Harborth gave a conjecture (HC) on $\textrm{cr}(K_{x_1,...,x_n})$. HC on $K_{1,m,n}$ is verified if ZC is true by Ho et al. in 2021. In this paper, we showed the following results: If both $m$ and $n$ are even, then \[\textrm{cr}(K_{1,1,m,n})\geq \frac{1}{2}(\textrm{cr}(K_{m+1,n+3})+\textrm{cr}(K_{m+3,n+1})-mn-\frac{1}{4}(m^2+n^2));\] If both $m$ and $n$ are odd, then \[\textrm{cr}(K_{1,1,m,n})\geq \frac{1}{2}(\textrm{cr}(K_{1,m+1,n+1})+\textrm{cr}(K_{2,m,n})-\frac{1}{4}(m+1)(n+1)+1);\] If $m$ is even and $n$ is odd, then \begin{equation}\nonumber \begin{split} \textrm{cr}(K_{1,1,m,n})&\geq \frac{1}{4}(\textrm{cr}(K_{m+1,n+2})+\textrm{cr}(K_{m+3,n+2})+2\textrm{cr}(K_{2,m,n}) \\&-m(n+1)-\frac{1}{4}(n+1)^2). \end{split} \end{equation} The lower bounds in our result imply that if both $m$ and $n$ are even and ZC is true, then HC on $K_{1,1,m,n}$ holds; if at least one of $m$ and $n$ is odd and both ZC and HC on $K_{2,m,n}$ are true, then HC on $K_{1,1,m,n}$ holds.

Abstract:Let G be an additive, finite abelian group. The critical number $\mathsf{cr}(G)$ of $G$ is the smallest positive integer $\ell$ such that for every subset $S \subset G \setminus \{0\}$ with $|S| \ge \ell$ the following holds: Every element of $G$ can be written as a nonempty sum of distinct elements from $S$. The critical number was first studied by P. Erdős and H. Heilbronn in 1964, and due to the contributions of many authors the value of $\mathsf {cr}(G)$ is known for all finite abelian groups $G$ except for $G \cong \mathbb{Z}/pq\mathbb{Z}$ where $p,q$ are primes such that $p+\lfloor2\sqrt{p-2}\rfloor+1<q<2p$. We determine that $\mathsf {cr}(G)=p+q-2$ for such groups.

A graph G is called an (a,b,k)-critical graph if after deleting any k vertices of G the remaining graph of G has an [a,b]-factor. We provide a sufficient condition for a graph to be (a,b,k)-critical that extends a well-known sufficient condition for the existence of a k-factor.

Abstract:An arithmetical structure on a finite, connected graph without loops is an assignment of positive integers to the vertices that satisfies certain conditions. Associated to each of these is a finite abelian group known as its critical group. We show how to determine the critical group of an arithmetical structure on a star graph or complete graph in terms of the entries of the arithmetical structure. We use this to investigate which finite abelian groups can occur as critical groups of arithmetical structures on these graphs.

Finite Groups of Symplectic Automorphisms of Supersingular K3 surfaces in Odd Characteristics

Abstract:In 2009, Dolgachev-Keum show that finite groups of tame symplectic automorphisms of K3 surfaces in positive characteristics are subgroups of the Mathieu group of degree 23 under mild conditions. In this paper, we utilize lattice-theoretic methods to investigate symplectic actions of finite groups G on K3 surfaces in odd characteristics. In the tame cases (i.e., the order of G is coprime with p) and all the superspecial cases, one can associate with the action a Leech pair which can be detected via Höhn-Mason's list. Notice that the superspecial cases have been resolved by Ohashi-Schütt. If the K3 surface is supersingular with Artin invariant at least two, we develop a new machinery called p-root pairs to detect possible symplectic finite group actions (without the assumption of tameness). The concept of p-root pair is closely related to root systems and Weyl groups. In particular, we recover many results by Dolgachev-Keum with a different method and give an upper bound for the exponent of p in |G|.

Abstract:Let γ(G) be the domination number of a graph G. A graph G is γ-vertex-critical if γ(G-v) < γ(G) for every vertex v ∈ V (G). In this paper, we show that if G is a 3-vertex-critical graph of even order n ≥ 18 and K1,7-free, then G contains a perfect matching with some exceptions. Our result solves a conjecture proposed by Ananchuen and Plummer.

We show that resistance diameters of these graphs have asymptotic as under fixed m , p . Non-trivial lower and upper asymptotic bounds for critical probabilities of percolation for there appearing a giant connected component have been obtained.

Abstract:An integer k-matching of a graph G is a function f from E(G) to {0,1,⋯,k} such that the sum of f(e) is not more than k for any vertex u, where the sum is taken over all edges e incident to u. When k=1, the integer k-matching is a matching. The (strong) integer k-matching preclusion number of G, denoted by mpk(G) (smpk(G)), is the minimum number of edges (vertices and edges) whose deletion results in a graph with neither perfect integer k-matching nor almost perfect integer k-matching. This is an extension of the (strong) matching preclusion problem that was introduced by Brigham, Park and Ihm et al. The twisted cubes and the (n,s)-star graphs have more desirable properties. In this paper, MPk number and SMPk number of the twisted cubes and (n,s)-star graphs are given, respectively.

Abstract:Let G be a graph, and let g, f be two integer-valued functions defined on V(G) with 0 <= g(x) <= f(x) for each x is an element of V(G). Then a spanning subgraph F of G is called a (g, f)-factor if g(x) <= d(F)(x) <= f(x) holds for each x is an element of V(G). A graph G is said to be (g, f, n)-critical if G - N has a (g, f)-factor for each N subset of V (G) with vertical bar N vertical bar = n. In this paper, we obtain an independence number and minimum degree condition for a graph C to be a (g, f, n)-critical graph. Morcover, it is showed that the result in this paper is best possible in some sense.

Abstract:If $G$ is a finite group, then the spectrum $\omega(G)$ is the set of all element orders of $G$. The prime spectrum $\pi(G)$ is the set of all primes belonging to $\omega(G)$. A simple graph $\Gamma(G)$ whose vertex set is $\pi(G)$ and in which two distinct vertices $r$ and $s$ are adjacent if and only if $rs \in \omega(G)$ is called the Gruenberg-Kegel graph or the prime graph of $G$.

Abstract:For a group G and positive interger m, Gm denotes the subgroup generated by the elements gm where g runs through G. The subgroups not of the form Gm are called nonpower subgroups. We extend the classification of groups with few nonpower subgroups from groups with at most 9 nonpower subgroups to groups with at most 13 nonpower subgroups.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a simple connected graph of order $n$ with diameter $d$. Let $m_G(-1)$ denote the multiplicity of the eigenvalue $-1$ of the adjacency matrix of $G$, and let $P = P_{d+1}$ be the diameter path of $G$. If $-1$ is not an eigenvalue of $P$, then by the interlacing theorem, we have $m_G(-1)\leq n - d - 1$. In this article, we characterize the extremal graphs where equality holds. Moreover, for the completeness of the results, we also characterize the graphs $G$ that achieve $m_G(-1) = n - d - 1$ when $-1$ is an eigenvalue of $P$. Thus, we provide a complete characterization of the graphs $G$ for which $m_G(-1) = n - d - 1$.

Abstract:A graph is diameter-$k$-critical if its diameter equals $k$ and the deletion of any edge increases its diameter. The Murty-Simon Conjecture states that for any diameter-2-critical graph $G$ of order $n$, $e(G) \leq \lfloor \frac{n^2}{4}\rfloor$, with equality if and only if $G \cong K_{\lfloor \frac{n}{2}\rfloor,\lceil \frac{n}{2}\rceil}$. Füredi (JGT,1992) proved that this conjecture is true for sufficiently large $n$. Over two decades later, Loh and Ma (JCT-B, 2016) proved that $e(G) \leq \frac{n^2}{6}+o(n^2)$ for diameter-3-critical graphs $G$, and $e(G) \leq \frac{3n^2}{k}$ for diameter-$k$-critical graphs $G$ with $k \geq 4$. In this paper, we improve the bound for diameter-$k$-critical graphs to $ \frac{n^2}{2k}+o(n^2)$.
