Abstract:Cast-in-place composite floor is commonly used in high-rise steel structures. Concrete slabs and steel beams will be integrated to work together with adequate shear-connections between them, thus forming composite beam-column joints. Neglecting the composite action of the slab, which does improve the moment capacity and rotational stiffness significantly, the current capacity design of joints can not reflect the actual behavior of joints. This paper uses finite element analysis method to present the structural behavior of composite joints by varying reinforcement ratio. The analytical results will be compared with corresponding pure steel joints. Some conclusions can be drawn from the analysis as follows: the composite action of concrete improves the rotational stiffness and capacity of the joints, while strengthens the stress concentration of bottom flange; the shearing deformation of panel zone of column web is the main reason for the deformation of the joints under antisymmetrical loading; appropriate ratio of reinforcement of the concrete slab can ensure the performance of the joints.
