Abstract:The major problem in current online diagnosis and analysis for power system oscillation is how to locate the oscillation source with the limited data of wide area measurement system (WAMS) quickly and correctly. This paper put forward a practical solution of constructing the cutsets and calculating the oscillation energy based on WAMS data. The concept and calculation method of cutset oscillation energy were defined at first. The cutsets of different levels of network were constructed and the oscillation energy was calculated with the dynamic information of WAMS on key lines. According to the direction of the oscillation energy flow, the cutset with positive flow can be identified as oscillation source. The analysis cases show that the cutset energy method can reveal the oscillation characteristics intuitively and locate the oscillation source quickly, which can make full use of WAMS data and do not depend on accurate parameters.
