Abstract:We experimentally show the first demonstration of optically labeled 100-Gb/s packet polarization-multiplexing signals passing through four optical wavelength-selective switching (OWSS) nodes. In this architecture, the payload is generated by polarization-multiplexing return-to-zero octaphase-shift-keying format at 114 Gb/s, and 2.5-Gb/s on-off keying signal is used for the carrying label. By using the vestigial sideband filtering, the spectra efficiency is increased up to 1 b/Hz/s. The bit-error-rate performance for both payload and label are evaluated after passing through four straight-line OWSS nodes in this optical network.

Abstract:The authors demonstrate a network node with two-hop transmission, packet switching and gating-controlled all-optical wavelength conversion based on highly nonlinear dispersion-shifted fibre and fibre Bragg gratings for a serial-bit labelled 40 Gbit/s RZ payload with an overall power penalty of less than 1.5 dB.

Abstract:We demonstrate a WDM-PON system with port agnostic tunable SFP+ transceiver modules. With low-frequency envelope-modulated message channel, error-free data transmission is achieved at 8.5 Gbps with a sensitivity better than -19 dBm.

Abstract:Wavelength conversion for an optical packet with an optically multiplexed 40-Gbit/s payload and a 2.5-Gbit/s label has been demonstrated for the first time to our knowledge in an optical-label-switched network. The power penalties caused by wavelength conversion for the 40-Gbit/s payload and the 2.5-Gbit/s label are 1.1 and 2.3 dB, respectively. We have also demonstrated that the optical packet is successfully transmitted over two hops with a record transmission distance of 200 km.

The dual-pump scheme based on FWM in semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) is employed and simultaneous wavelength conversion for optical packet with one optical payload of 10-Gb/s non-return-to-zero (NRZ) on-off keying (OOK) signals and one optical label of 2.5-Gb/s OFDM signals are realized. The bit-error-rate performance is evaluated for both payload and label after wavelength conversion.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose and experimentally demonstrate a novel optical packet switching scheme with one core router and two edge routers, in which an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signal is generated as a label. In this experiment there are two transmission spans, each span consists of 50-km SMF-28 and an erbium-doped optical fiber amplifier (EDFA) without dispersion management. A 10Gb/s on-off keying (OOK) optical payload and a 2.5Gb/s OFDM optical label are generated, encapsulated, and transmitted in the first span. And then old label is replaced by new label, the generated new optical packet after transmission over the second span is detached and detected. The transmission performance of the optical label and payload is experimentally investigated at the ingress router, core router and egress router.

Abstract:A novel optical packet switching scheme,in which an optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OOFDM) signal is generated as a label,is proposed and experimentally demonstrated.The 10 Gb/s OOK optical payload and the 2.5 Gb/s OFDM optical label are produced by intensity modulation of two continuous waves with different wavelength,respectively.In the experiment,the eye diagrams of the payload,constellation diagrams of the label and the BER curves of the label and payload are obtained,when the optical packets were transmitted on optical fiber or not.It is experimentally demonstrated that the power penalties for the payload and the label after 10 km fiber transmission are 1 dB and 0.5 dB, respectively.The scheme is easy to implement,so it can be used in an optical label switched network.

Abstract:We have demonstrated for the first time in our knowledge optical label-based wavelength switching and packet drop over actual field fiber. We have shown SCM-formatted optical labeling transmission with less than 2 dB power penalty for both label and payload over 476 km of fiber. The optical label switching achieves packet drop and re-transmission of the remaining packet.

Abstract:A novel scheme to generate coherent 112 optical sub-carriers with subcarrier spacing of 25GHz is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. By using these coherent optical subcarriers, we have successfully generated 10-Tbit/s (112x100Gbit/s) single channel optical OFDM polarization multiplexing QPSK signal with the bandwidth of 2.8THz and the optical signal noise ratio greater than 20dB (0.1nm bandwidth for each subchannel). We have transmitted the 11.2-Tbit/s optical OFDM signal over 640-km SMF-28 with an amplifier span of 80km and EDFA-only. (C) 2011 Optical Society of America

Abstract:This paper proposes and numerically investigated a novel high-speed wavelength-division-multiplexed passive optical network (WDM-PON) architecture with colorless user terminals based on the use of a different modulation scheme for downstream and upstream transmission. In the central office (CO), based on the carrier suppressing functionality of Mach-Zehnder modulator (MZM) and differential-phase-shift-keying to amplitude-shift-keying conversion using Mach-Zehnder delay interferometer, 40-Gb/s optical frequency shift keying (FSK) is generated and employed for transmitting the downstream data. In the remote node (RN) or optical network unit (ONU), the upstream data is re-modulated at 2.5-Gb/s by an intensity modulator and sent back to CO with the same fiber. Since only one light source is needed for each WDM channel, and the MZM to generate carrier suppressed signal can be shared by all the channels, a centralized 40-Gb/s WDM-PON access system with low-cost configuration is realized. Error free transmission over 20-km SMF can be observed for both downstream and upstream signals in our simulation. © 2008 SPIE.
