Abstract:Microporous poly (vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) hydrophobic membranes were prepared via a non-solvent induced phase separation (NIPS) method. Using PVDF/triethyl phosphate (TEP)-N,N-dimethylacetamide (DMAc) as casting solution and a mixture of water and ethanol (EtOH) as coagulation bath, the microporous PVDF hydrophobic membrane with good performance was prepared. The effects of coagulation bath composition and temperature on the demixing rate, membrane morphology and hydrophobicity of the prepared membranes were investigated. The experimental results show that, at 20℃, increasing the EtOH content in the coagulation bath will slow the precipitation process and increase the porosity of the prepared PVDF membrane. The addition of 60%(wt) EtOH to the coagulation bath results in a lotus leaf type arrangement of PVDF solid protrusions spreading on the membrane top surface and the sponge structure fulling the whole cross section of the membrane. The prepared membrane shows an excellent mechanical property and its contact angle can reach 130.3°, which indicates that the prepared membrane has a high hydrophobicity.
