Abstract:In recent years, GIS (Geography Information System) technique was widely applied in the evaluation of the earthquake-induced site liquefaction potential, for it has a strong ability to analyze site information spatially of. In this study, the deficiencies of 2D GIS technique applied in the visual evaluation of earthquake-induced site liquefaction potential were analyzed. Further, 2.5D and 3D modeling methods were introduced by actual engineering examples. First, DEM (Digital Elevation Model) tetrahedron extension technique was utilized to construct visual 2.5D model for site liquefaction potential sustained by GIS 3D module. Second, "block" data structure was adopted to describe the 3D site entity; thus, the visual 3D modeling for earthquake-induced site liquefaction potential can be realized based on Kriging method and volume rendering technique. The research shows that: a) 2.5D site liquefaction potential model possesses 3D visibility impression but can not give the 3D distribution characteristics of site liquefaction potential; and, b) by 3D interpolation method and volume rendering technique, the interpolation results can be displayed in different color label to simulate the 3D distribution of liquefaction potential visually. Therefore, the spatial analysis functions that can not be realized by 2D and 2.5D GIS techniques such as 2D profile cutting and 3D body incision etc. can be comprehended.
