Abstract:This field study was performed during the summer of 2005 in order to investigate the indoor air quality and thermal comfort in offices in Hunan, south of china. Air pollutants and thermal comfort variables were measured at each sampling location. Questionnaires concerning various items of indoor information about the sites and occupant perception of thermal comfort were distributed simultaneously with the physical measurements. A total of 15 offices were surveyed and 86 copies of questionnaire were collected. The results show that no indoor concentrations of CO, SO 2, benzene and toluene exceeded the IAQ standards in china and the most serious indoor pollutants were CO 2 and HCHO. Potential sources such as tobacco smoking, press wooden office furniture and heavy traffic resulted in the poor air quality inside the building. The indoor air temperature and relative humidity were relatively high in the 15 offices, but most of the occupants found their thermal environment acceptable. The air velocities in the investigated office were quite low and only 47.67% of the respondents felt the air velocity was just right.
