Abstract:Fifteen public places, including offices, schools libraries, hotels and a shopping mall, were selected for indoor and outdoor air pollutant measurements in Guiyang City from September to October in 2004. The target pollutants were SO2, NO2, CO, CO2, PM10, HCHO, NH3, and total bacteria count (TBC). Questionnaires were distributed to the occupants to obtain the perceived indoor air quality in each surveyed building. Indoor/Outdoor (I/O) ratios and their correlations were calculated. The I/O ratios of SO2, NO2, PM10 and CO were low and the correlations were relatively high in most places, indicating the presence and infiltration of outdoor sources. HCHO was predominant indoors with the I/O values of 1.7-9.8 and poor I/O correlation. The highest TBC level observed in shopping mall was possibly due to the high occupancy loading. The air quality of office environment was worse than other places, which was probably related with the prevalent remodeling and insufficient ventilation. It is shown that the perceived indoor air quality by occupants was well corresponding with the indoor air pollutants levels measured in this study.
