Abstract:From 0.5 to 5.0 generation PAMAM dendrimers were synthesized with ethylenediamine core by Michael addition reaction and aminolysis reaction two repeated steps. The structure of dendrimers were confirmed by FTIR 1H NMR 13C NMR MS and all of these measurements showed that they were successfully synthesized. Furthermore, The authors studied the UV and fluorescence properties of different generation dendrimers. Because of diffenent terminal groups, it was found that the whole generation and half generation show different ultraviolet absorption peaks and the intensity of ultraviolet absorption is closely related to the molecular skeleton. There is no traditional fluorescence emission groups, but PAMAM dendrimers show the peculiar phenomenon. In this paper we detailedly studied the factors which affect PAMAM dendrimers fluorescence properties.

Abstract:PAMAM G 2.0 was synthesized by divergent method with ethylenediamine as center core,methyl acrylate as branching monomer,and then a polyamidoamine-benzaldehyde dendrimer was prepared at 60 ℃ for 48 h with benzaldehyde as terminating monomer.Molecular structure of the polyamidoamine-benzaldehyde dendrimer was characterized by FTIR,~1HNMR and ~(13)CNMR with results comforming with the design.The dendrimer is soluble in chloroform but insoluble in water and cyclohexane.The fluorescent property of the dendrimer was studied.Fluorescence of polyamidoamine-benzaldehyde dendrimer is quenched by Fe~(3+) in the solution and a red shift from 436 nm to 458 nm is observed of the fluorescent emission peak.Fluorescence of polyamidoamine-benzaldehyde dendrimer is increased by Zn~(2+) in the solution and a blue shift from 436 nm to 402 nm of the fluorescent emission peak occurs at the same time.

Abstract:A dendrimer of PAMAM (1G)-FCD was synthesized. Its structure was characterized via IR, H-1 NMR, MALDI-TOF-MS, etc. The fluorescent properties of PAMAM(1G) -FCD, as well as the influence of Sn2+ on tills dendrimer, were also studied systematically. The results show that the fluorescence of tills dendrimer can be significantly enhanced by Sn2+. The UV spectra detected a new absorption peak at 360 rim with the addition of Sn2+ into the Solution of PAMAM(1G) -FCD, suggesting that chemical reaction occured in the Sn2+ and PAMAM(1G) -FCD system. This hybrid material of metal-dendrimer holds promise as a scarce material to emit blue fluorescence.

Abstract:The polyamidoamine dendrimers, PAMAM-CMAC, was synthesized by decorating PAMAM dendrimer with coumarin-3-methyl acyl chlorine on the periphery. The structures were characterized by FTIR and H-NMR spectra. The fluorescence analysis indicated the PAMAM-CMAC exhibits strong fluorescence emission. The fluorescence intensity of PAMAM-CMAC is much higher than that of PAMAM dendrimer. The fluorescence intensity of PAMAM-CMAC was affected by pH, concentration and solvent. At a considerably big pH value range, the fluorescence emission of PAMAM-CMAC is comparatively stable. Meanwhile, the fluorescence emission of PAMAM-CMAC shifts to longer wavelength with the increase in solvent polarity.

Abstract:Hyperbranched poly(amido amine) (h‐PAMAM) was synthesized from different feed ratios of diethylene triamine and methyl acrylate by the simple one‐pot and commercial synthesis method. Reaction procedures and products were intensively studied by FTIR, inherent viscosity and fluorescence techniques. The ill‐structured h‐PAMAM shared similar chemical and physical properties with well defined poly(amido amine) (PAMAM) dendrimers in generation 2 or 3. Its strong fluorescence properties were influenced by pH values, solvents, concentrations, terminal groups and other factors.

Abstract:First generation(G1.0) sectorial poly(amido amine) dendrimers(PAMAM) with ethanolamine core and amino terminals(NH2-PAMAM:G1.0-NH2)were synthesized by a divergent route.Thiol-functionalised G1.0 PAMAM dendrimers(SH-PAMAM:G1.0-SH) were prepared by reacting NH2-PAMAM dendrimers with commercially available Methyl thioglycolate.The structure of the dendrimers was characterized by 1H NMR,13C NMR.The effect of the dendrimers on the fluorescence properties of mercaptoacetic acid capped CdTe quantum dots(CdTe-TGA) were studied using fluorescence titration.The results showed that two kinds of the dendrimers would enhance the fluorescence intensity of CdTe-TGA QDs.

Abstract:Polyamidoamine Dendrimers(PAMAM) is one kind of new polymer,which has developed rapidly in recent years.They have been attracted much attention and have shown excellent potential applications in many areas.Recently,PAMAM Dendrimers can produce strong photoluminescence at the condition of proper pH was observed.In this review,we mainly introduced fluorescence property of PAMAM Dendrimers,such as the discovery of their fluorescent phenomenon,their emitting enhancement effect to other chromophores,the fluorescence study on the PAMAM based template synthesis of nano-composite,as well as the investigation of their fluorescence mechanism.A prospect on the possible research of PAMAM fluorescence in the future was also given.Because of high biocompatibility and excellent energy transferring mechanism,PAMAM dendrimers may become a new kind of fluorescence bio-indicator.

Abstract:The interactions of amino-terminated, and ethylenediamine core poly(amidoamine) (PAMAM) dendrimers and their derivatives with bovine serum albumin (BSA) were investigated by fluorescence spectroscopy. Experimental results showed that the fluorescence intensity of BSA decreased after the addition of different modified dendrimers, and the extent of the fluorescence quenching caused by various modified dendrimers strongly depends upon the different functional groups on their surfaces. We also investigated the influence of pH and ionic strength on the interaction between various modified dendrimers and BSA. Circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopic measurements showed that the content of α-helix structure of BSA decreased after the addition of different modified dendrimers, which indicated that dendrimers induced changes in the secondary structure of BSA.

Abstract:In this article,different generations of amine terminated polyamidoamine dendrimers reacted with 1,8-naphthalic anhydride in DMF solvent.The dendrimers modified with peripheral 1,8-naphthalimide groups of 3.0 G and 5.0 G PAMAM were synthesized.The related products were named as D3 and D5,respectively,and they were characterized by FT-IR,UV-Vis,fluorophotometer and element analysis.The results showed that amidation reactions occurred between 1,8-naphthalic anhydride and PAMAM and the structures of the products were in accordance with the expectation.Through dissolving investigation of the D3 and D5,their possible solvent is the mixture of chloroform and ethanol(1 ∶1 in volume).Because of the fixation of the naphthalin rings on PAMAM,the naphthalin of ground state and the naphthalin of excited state can form associations.The study of fluorescent property indicated that a new peak value centered at 471 nm on the fluorescence emission spectra of D3 and D5 because of the associations formation.

Abstract:The self-assemble behavior between the dendrimer PAMAM (1G) and the derivatives of Indolizine (CCA) were studied,which realized the peripheral modifying for the dendrimer PAMAM,and also realized the transferring of CCA from oil phase to water phase.The fluorescent intensity and the UV absorbance of the PAMAM solution are all increased with the concentration of CCA obviously,all proved the self-assemble really happened.

Abstract:The fluorescence and aggregation behavior of poly(amidoamine) (PAMAM) dendrimers modified with phenyl groups at the periphery (PAMAM-P) were investigated. For comparison, the third generation (G3) PAMAM dendrimer with a shell of positive charge (PAMAM-PA) was also synthesized. PAMAM-P G3, G4 and G5 show dual fluorescence emission due to the fluorescence emission of phenyl ring and its excimer. By increasing the generation number from G2 to G4, the fluorescence intensity of phenyl ring decreases, and the fluorescence of phenyl excimer appears and becomes obvious. The three-dimensional geometry arrangement or dendrimer architecture was found to have a strong effect on their fluorescence behavior. This result is further supported by the solvent effect and model compound studies. The lower generations (PAMAM-P G0 to G3) were self-organized into spherical aggregates. However, no aggregation behavior was observed for the higher generations (>G3). The critical aggregation concentration (CAC) values measured by fluorescence spectroscopy were found to decrease gradually with increasing generation number from G0 to G3. Abstract:Poly(amidoamine) dendrimers from the zeroth generation (G 0) to the fifth generation (G 5) bearing electron-donating chromophores, i.e. N, N-dimethylphenylamine (PA), carbazole (Cz) and pyrene (Py) chromophores have been synthesized. The macromolecular reactions of chromophoric modifications of PAMAM dendrimers were monitored by fluorescence spectroscopy. The reliability of fluorescence monitoring was confirmed by NMR spectroscopy. Compared with widely applied environment-sensitive fluorescence probe techniques, a distinct feature of the fluorescence monitoring was that it directly reflected the conversion of chemical bonds. A comparative study revealed that the fluorescence quenching of small molecular Py by the high generation dendrimers of PAMAM-PA was a static quenching process. The high generation dendrimers of PAMAM-Py possessed relatively compact Py shells as compared with the same generation PAMAM-PA. Electrochemical studies revealed an architectural transition occurring from an open and flexible structure to a closely packed globular structure between G 2 and G 3. The electron-donating ability of PAMAM-PA was affected by dendritic architectures.

Abstract:A water-soluble pyridine naphthalimide-polyamidoamine dendrimer (PN-PAMAM) was synthesized by the amidation reaction of 4-(2-vinylpyridine)-1,8-naphthalimide unit and the polyamidoamine (PAMAM). The structure was characterized by H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR, IR and HRMS techniques. PN-PAMAM displayed obvious aggregation-induced emission enhancement (AIEE) behavior. The experimental results demonstrated that dendrimer PN-PAMAM in solid state emitted a yellow-green fluorescence and the maximum emission wavelength was 532 nm. In aqueous solution the maximum emission wavelength was 494 nm and the fluorescence quantum yield was 4.42%. The fluorescence intensity reached the maximum at 60% water volume fraction in H2O/THF mixed solution. The fluorescence emission wavelength was 485 nm and the fluorescence quantum yield was increased to 17.54%. The photophysical properties of the silica nanoparticles loaded AIEE dye PN-PAMAM were examined. The fluorescence emission wavelength was 473 nm and the particle diameter was about 40 nm. In addition, dendrimer PN-PAMAM were applied for breast cancer MCF-7 cells imaging, getting clear blue-field photograph. In summary, the pyridine naphthalimide-PAMAM dendrimer is a water-soluble fluorescent dye and displays AIEE behavior. PN-PAMAM can be widely used in areas of tumor localization, bio-tracking and nano-materials.

Abstract:Polyamidoamine (PAMAM) dendrimers have been synthesized by divergent with ethylenediamine as core. The interaction between PAMAM including amine-terminated generation 4.0 (G4.0), generation 3.0 (G3.0) PAMAM and ester-terminated generation 3.5 (G3.5) PAMAM dendrimers and bovine serum albumin (BSA) under physiological condition was studied by fluorescence spectroscopy. The results showed that the fluorescence intensity of BSA decreased with the addition of different PAMAM dendrimers, the quenching extent strongly depends on the type and amounts of their surface groups. The quenching mechanism was static quenching mechanism. The quenching constants of G4.0 PAMAM, G3.5 PAMAM, G3.0 PAMAM with BSA were 2.73, 1.69, 1.55 L.mmol(-1), respectively. The influence of pH and ionic strength on the interactions was also investigated. Furthermore, synchronous fluorescence, ultraviolet-visible spectra analysis (UV), and red edge excitation shift (REES) showed that PAMAM dendrimers could change the conformation of BSA.

Abstract:A perylenediimide-based dendrimer, PDI-F, was designed and synthesized for application as red host emitter in nondoped organic light-emitting diodes. PDI-F was designed with perylenediimide as the luminescence core and pentafluorophenyl rings as the surface groups. The dendrimer molecule constructed in this way is bulky and nonplanar. PDI-F exhibits good solubility in common organic solvents and is suitable for wet methods such as spin coating to make thin films. All new compounds of the intermediates and the target dendrimer were characterized by H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR, mass spectrometry, and elemental analysis. In addition, the ultraviolet (UV) absorption and fluorescence (FL) of PDI-F were measured and discussed. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of dendrimer PDI-F.
