Abstract:Novel triphenylamine-based dendrimers were synthesized and characterized by FT-IR, elemental analysis, 1H NMR spectroscopy, and MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry. The linear photophysical properties including absorption, one-photon induced fluorescence and the fluorescence lifetimes in different solvents were investigated. The two-photon induced fluorescence behavior was recorded in toluene solution, employing a Ti:sapphire femtosecond laser pulse. The dendrimers both emit strong blue–green fluorescence under irradiation. Two-photon excited state fluorescence cross-sections were also obtained. The two dendrimers displayed a large two-photon absorption. The polytriphenylamine dendrimer shows larger two-photon excited state fluorescence cross-sections in toluene relative to the tristriphenylamine analog, indicating that there is cooperative enhancement originating from inter-branch coupling and an increase of light-harvesting ability with increasing dendrimer size.

Abstract:Polyamidoamine Dendrimers(PAMAM) is one kind of new polymer,which has developed rapidly in recent years.They have been attracted much attention and have shown excellent potential applications in many areas.Recently,PAMAM Dendrimers can produce strong photoluminescence at the condition of proper pH was observed.In this review,we mainly introduced fluorescence property of PAMAM Dendrimers,such as the discovery of their fluorescent phenomenon,their emitting enhancement effect to other chromophores,the fluorescence study on the PAMAM based template synthesis of nano-composite,as well as the investigation of their fluorescence mechanism.A prospect on the possible research of PAMAM fluorescence in the future was also given.Because of high biocompatibility and excellent energy transferring mechanism,PAMAM dendrimers may become a new kind of fluorescence bio-indicator.

Abstract:A water-soluble pyridine naphthalimide-polyamidoamine dendrimer (PN-PAMAM) was synthesized by the amidation reaction of 4-(2-vinylpyridine)-1,8-naphthalimide unit and the polyamidoamine (PAMAM). The structure was characterized by H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR, IR and HRMS techniques. PN-PAMAM displayed obvious aggregation-induced emission enhancement (AIEE) behavior. The experimental results demonstrated that dendrimer PN-PAMAM in solid state emitted a yellow-green fluorescence and the maximum emission wavelength was 532 nm. In aqueous solution the maximum emission wavelength was 494 nm and the fluorescence quantum yield was 4.42%. The fluorescence intensity reached the maximum at 60% water volume fraction in H2O/THF mixed solution. The fluorescence emission wavelength was 485 nm and the fluorescence quantum yield was increased to 17.54%. The photophysical properties of the silica nanoparticles loaded AIEE dye PN-PAMAM were examined. The fluorescence emission wavelength was 473 nm and the particle diameter was about 40 nm. In addition, dendrimer PN-PAMAM were applied for breast cancer MCF-7 cells imaging, getting clear blue-field photograph. In summary, the pyridine naphthalimide-PAMAM dendrimer is a water-soluble fluorescent dye and displays AIEE behavior. PN-PAMAM can be widely used in areas of tumor localization, bio-tracking and nano-materials.

Abstract:Three pi-conjugated dendrimers (Ph-G0, Ph-G1 and Ph-G2) bearing triphenylamine moieties have been synthesized through a convergent synthetic strategy without any protection-deprotection chemistry. The linear photophysical properties, two-photon absorption (TPA), and optical limiting behavior of the dendrimers were investigated in solution at room temperature. Linear absorption and emission spectra revealed a bathochromic shift and decreased fluorescence quantum yields with increasing dendrimer generation. A strong cooperative effect in the TPA absorption of these dendrimers was observed. The TPA cross-sections increase gradually with the proportion of triphenylamine units and the maximum value of the TPA cross-section can reach 5690 GM for Ph-G2. These triphenylamine-based dendrimers exhibited efficient two-photon optical limiting under femtosecond excitation.

Abstract:Hyperbranched polymers have attracted wide research attention owing to their unique topological structure, physicochemical properties and great potential for applications such asadditives, drug delivery, catalysts and nanotechnology. Among these, the polyamidoamine(PAMAM) dendrimers are some of the most important dendrimers. However, the synthesis and biomedical applications of fluorescent PAMAM dendrimers have received only limited attention. In this work, we present a rather effective and convenient approach for synthesis of fluorescent PAMAM dendrimers with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) properties through a one-pot catalyst-free Mannich reaction under rather mild experimental conditions (e.g., low reaction temperature, air atmosphere in the presence of water). The obtained AIE-active amphiphiles (PhE-PAD) could self-assemble into fluorescent organic nanoparticles (FONs). The obtained AIE-active FONs (PhE-PAD FONs) were fully characterized, and their successful construction was confirmed by 1H NMR spectroscopy, FT-IR spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy. Fluorescence and UV-Visible absorption spectroscopy results demonstrated that the final PhE-PAD FONs showed strong yellow fluorescence, desirable photostability and good water dispersity. The cell viability evaluation and confocal laser scanning microscope imaging results suggested that PhE-PAD FONs possessed low cytotoxicity and excellent biocompatibility. Taken together, these results demonstrate that we have developed a facile and efficient strategy for the fabrication of AIE-active FONs, which possess many desirable features for biomedical applications.

Abstract:From 0.5 to 5.0 generation PAMAM dendrimers were synthesized with ethylenediamine core by Michael addition reaction and aminolysis reaction two repeated steps. The structure of dendrimers were confirmed by FTIR 1H NMR 13C NMR MS and all of these measurements showed that they were successfully synthesized. Furthermore, The authors studied the UV and fluorescence properties of different generation dendrimers. Because of diffenent terminal groups, it was found that the whole generation and half generation show different ultraviolet absorption peaks and the intensity of ultraviolet absorption is closely related to the molecular skeleton. There is no traditional fluorescence emission groups, but PAMAM dendrimers show the peculiar phenomenon. In this paper we detailedly studied the factors which affect PAMAM dendrimers fluorescence properties.

Abstract:A novel triphenylamine dendrimer,1,2,4,5-tetra-{4-{N,N-Bis{4-{4-[5-(4-tert-butylphenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl]-styryl}phenyl}amino} styryl} benzene(TPAB-OXA),was synthesized through Wittig-Horner reaction.The structure were characterized by IR,NMR and melting points determination.The maximum absorption peak in dichloromethane was at 420nm for TPAB-OXA.The maximum emission wavelengths was at 504nm for TPAB-OXA in dichloromethane.The fluorescence lifetime for TPAB-OXA were 1.41ns with fluorescence quantum yields of 0.65.The relationship of Stoke's shift with solvent polarity was discussed.

Abstract:First generation(G1.0) sectorial poly(amido amine) dendrimers(PAMAM) with ethanolamine core and amino terminals(NH2-PAMAM:G1.0-NH2)were synthesized by a divergent route.Thiol-functionalised G1.0 PAMAM dendrimers(SH-PAMAM:G1.0-SH) were prepared by reacting NH2-PAMAM dendrimers with commercially available Methyl thioglycolate.The structure of the dendrimers was characterized by 1H NMR,13C NMR.The effect of the dendrimers on the fluorescence properties of mercaptoacetic acid capped CdTe quantum dots(CdTe-TGA) were studied using fluorescence titration.The results showed that two kinds of the dendrimers would enhance the fluorescence intensity of CdTe-TGA QDs.

Abstract:The first to fourth generation (G1-G4) of sectorial poly(amido amine) (PAMAM) dendrimers with ethanolamine core and amino terminals are synthesized by a divergent route. Blue fluorescence emission from these dendrimers is observed. It is found that there is a remarkable difference in the fluorescence behavior for these different generations of dendrimers. The emission intensity of these dendrimers is almost linearly enhanced along with the increase of their concentrations. A significant pH-dependent profile of the fluorescence intensity is also observed. As the pH value decreases from 8 to 3, the fluorescence intensity increases almost linearly. Furthermore, the fluorescence intensity of the dendrimers shows a reversible behavior depending on pH value within the pH range from 3 to 11. This property enables the reversible manipulation of the fluorescence of these dendrimers by adjusting the pH values, which contributes to a potential application of these materials in fluorescent pH sensors.

Abstract:Synthesis and photophysical properties of different generations of poly(ester-amine) dendrimers with focal 4-amino-N-benzylphthalimide (4-ANBP) as the core were studied. The lambda(abs)(max) of dendronized 4-ANBP was nonsensitive to the solvents used and located at 334 nm, while that of bare 4-ANBP was very sensitive. The fluorescence behaviors of dendronized 4-ANBPs showed much dependence on the generation of the dendrimers used and the media. As compared with bare 4-ANBP, the fluorescence intensity of 3 (G1.0), 5 (G2.0), 7 (G3.0), and 9 (G4.0) in methanol was reduced to 6.2-, 26-, 50-, and 56.5-fold, respectively, and had a 83 nm blue shift. The corresponding fluorescence quantum yields were also measured (4-ANBP-0.12, 3-0.017, 5-0.0042, 7-0.0028, 9-0.0016). Addition of sulfuric acid to the methanol solution of 9 (3.27 x 10(-5) M/L), resulted in a strong fluorescence, and the fluorescence intensity was amplified 181 times. Acid titration experiments showed that all of the tertiary amines in 3, 5, and 7 were protonated, but only 12 in 15 of the tertiary amines in G4.0 delta 9 were protonated. Repeated acid-base titrations caused the fluorescence to switch on and off. After many cycles of acid-base titration. Slight changes in fluorescence intensity were observed.

Abstract:Two new conjugated dendrimers bearing a triphenylamine moiety as dendrons and 1,3,5-triphenylbenzene as a core have been synthesized through a convergent synthetic strategy. These conjugated dendrimers have high fluorescence quantum yields and exhibit similar absorption and emission behaviors in solutions and in solid films, which demonstrate that these dendrimers form good amorphous states.

Abstract:Poly(amidoamine) dendrimers from the zeroth generation (G 0) to the fifth generation (G 5) bearing electron-donating chromophores, i.e. N, N-dimethylphenylamine (PA), carbazole (Cz) and pyrene (Py) chromophores have been synthesized. The macromolecular reactions of chromophoric modifications of PAMAM dendrimers were monitored by fluorescence spectroscopy. The reliability of fluorescence monitoring was confirmed by NMR spectroscopy. Compared with widely applied environment-sensitive fluorescence probe techniques, a distinct feature of the fluorescence monitoring was that it directly reflected the conversion of chemical bonds. A comparative study revealed that the fluorescence quenching of small molecular Py by the high generation dendrimers of PAMAM-PA was a static quenching process. The high generation dendrimers of PAMAM-Py possessed relatively compact Py shells as compared with the same generation PAMAM-PA. Electrochemical studies revealed an architectural transition occurring from an open and flexible structure to a closely packed globular structure between G 2 and G 3. The electron-donating ability of PAMAM-PA was affected by dendritic architectures.

Abstract:The fluorescence and aggregation behavior of poly(amidoamine) (PAMAM) dendrimers modified with phenyl groups at the periphery (PAMAM-P) were investigated. For comparison, the third generation (G3) PAMAM dendrimer with a shell of positive charge (PAMAM-PA) was also synthesized. PAMAM-P G3, G4 and G5 show dual fluorescence emission due to the fluorescence emission of phenyl ring and its excimer. By increasing the generation number from G2 to G4, the fluorescence intensity of phenyl ring decreases, and the fluorescence of phenyl excimer appears and becomes obvious. The three-dimensional geometry arrangement or dendrimer architecture was found to have a strong effect on their fluorescence behavior. This result is further supported by the solvent effect and model compound studies. The lower generations (PAMAM-P G0 to G3) were self-organized into spherical aggregates. However, no aggregation behavior was observed for the higher generations (>G3). The critical aggregation concentration (CAC) values measured by fluorescence spectroscopy were found to decrease gradually with increasing generation number from G0 to G3. Abstract:PAMAM G 2.0 was synthesized by divergent method with ethylenediamine as center core,methyl acrylate as branching monomer,and then a polyamidoamine-benzaldehyde dendrimer was prepared at 60 ℃ for 48 h with benzaldehyde as terminating monomer.Molecular structure of the polyamidoamine-benzaldehyde dendrimer was characterized by FTIR,~1HNMR and ~(13)CNMR with results comforming with the design.The dendrimer is soluble in chloroform but insoluble in water and cyclohexane.The fluorescent property of the dendrimer was studied.Fluorescence of polyamidoamine-benzaldehyde dendrimer is quenched by Fe~(3+) in the solution and a red shift from 436 nm to 458 nm is observed of the fluorescent emission peak.Fluorescence of polyamidoamine-benzaldehyde dendrimer is increased by Zn~(2+) in the solution and a blue shift from 436 nm to 402 nm of the fluorescent emission peak occurs at the same time.

Abstract:A dendrimer of PAMAM (1G)-FCD was synthesized. Its structure was characterized via IR, H-1 NMR, MALDI-TOF-MS, etc. The fluorescent properties of PAMAM(1G) -FCD, as well as the influence of Sn2+ on tills dendrimer, were also studied systematically. The results show that the fluorescence of tills dendrimer can be significantly enhanced by Sn2+. The UV spectra detected a new absorption peak at 360 rim with the addition of Sn2+ into the Solution of PAMAM(1G) -FCD, suggesting that chemical reaction occured in the Sn2+ and PAMAM(1G) -FCD system. This hybrid material of metal-dendrimer holds promise as a scarce material to emit blue fluorescence.

Abstract:Two novel heavy atom-free pure organic pyrimidine-based asymmetric donor-acceptor type emitters were designed and synthesized. The twisted D-A conformation was favored to produce small ΔEst and effective ISC. Excitingly, PMBT and CzPMBT showed precious fluorescence-RTP-TADF triple emission. Furthermore, PMBT responded to external stimuli of volatile solvents fumigation and different intensity grinding to generate a multicolor switching system, which included charming white light due to the dual emission of fluorescence and phosphorescence. Crystallographic analysis was conducted to explain the reasons for the differences in photophysical properties produced by the two compounds. This research provides insight into the mechanism of action of RTP, TADF and multicolor MCL through intermolecular interactions and conformational modulation.

Abstract:Strong UV absorbance spectra and fluorescence spectra from tetra-dendron dendrimers derived from ethylenediamine cores with different terminal groups (–NH2, –COOCH3) or di-dendron dendrimers derived from mono-Boc-protected ethylenediamine cores were studied under different conditions by varying experimental parameters such as pH value and concentration. The result shows a rapid increase of fluorescence intensity at low pH. It was reasonable that the formation of a fluorescence-emitting moiety had a close relationship to protonated tertiary amine groups in tetra-dendron dendrimers derived from ethylenediamine cores or di-dendron dendrimers derived from mono-Boc-protected ethylenediamine cores. Furthermore, it was confirmed that the concentration of two dendrimers plays an important role in fluorescence intensity. The increase in fluorescence intensity was linear with respect to concentration at low concentration regions but the intensity increases slowly at high concentration regions.

Abstract:In this article,different generations of amine terminated polyamidoamine dendrimers reacted with 1,8-naphthalic anhydride in DMF solvent.The dendrimers modified with peripheral 1,8-naphthalimide groups of 3.0 G and 5.0 G PAMAM were synthesized.The related products were named as D3 and D5,respectively,and they were characterized by FT-IR,UV-Vis,fluorophotometer and element analysis.The results showed that amidation reactions occurred between 1,8-naphthalic anhydride and PAMAM and the structures of the products were in accordance with the expectation.Through dissolving investigation of the D3 and D5,their possible solvent is the mixture of chloroform and ethanol(1 ∶1 in volume).Because of the fixation of the naphthalin rings on PAMAM,the naphthalin of ground state and the naphthalin of excited state can form associations.The study of fluorescent property indicated that a new peak value centered at 471 nm on the fluorescence emission spectra of D3 and D5 because of the associations formation.
