Abstract:Photodissociation dynamics of CS2 + molecular ions has been investigated by (1 + 1) two-photon resonance technique. CS2 + were prepared by (3 + 1) resonance-enhanced multi-photon ionization(REMPI) of CS2 molecules at 483.2nm. The photofragment S + excitation(PHOFEX) spectra were recorded by scanning another laser in the 424 ∼ 482nm region, and were assigned essentially to CS2 + (Ã2Πv,3/2(v′ = 0 ∼ 4) ←X̃2Πg,3/2 (0,0,0)) and (Ã 2Πu,3/2 (v′ 0 ∼ 4)←X̃ 2Πg,3/2 (0,0,0)) (herev′ = v1′ + (1/2)v2′) transitions. The S+ production channel was preliminarily attributed to, (i) one - photon excitation CS2 + from the ground state X̃2Πg to the excited state Ã2Πu; (ii) vibronic coupling between the Ã2Πu state and the high vibrational levels in the X̃2Πg state; (iii) second photon excitation from the coupling vibrational levels to the excited state B̃ 2Σu + and dissociation to produce S + + CS via the repulsive 4Σ- state through spin - orbit interaction between the B∼ 2Σ u + and 4Σ- states.

Abstract:The mass-selected excitation spectra for parent ion CS2+ and the fragmentation ions CS+, S+ and C+ are obtained by using the resonance-enhanced multiphoton ionization (REMPI) of CS2 in the range 242-260nm. It is shown that the diffuse bands of CS2+ in range of lambda <246.4nm are mainly from the two-photon ionization of CS2. It has been reasonably assumed from the assignments of excitation spectra for the fragments that the neutral CS and S are produced by the photodissociation of CS3 in the process, that is, (1) the bands of CS+ are mainly due to the (1+1) resonance-enhanced ionization via the one-photon transition A(1)Pi <-- X(1)Sigma(+)(upsilon " less than or equal to 2) of the fragment CS, (2) besides part of S+ spectral peaks are from the dissociation of CS+, most of S+ spectral peaks are due to the (2+1) resonance-enhanced ionization via, the two-photon transition 3p(3) (D-2(0)) 4p, 3p(3) (S-4(0)) np (n=6,7,8) <-- 3p(4) P-3(J) (J=2,1,0) of S atoms.

Abstract:The [1+1] Ã 2Πu-state resonance enhanced two-photon dissociation process of CS2+ molecular ions has been investigated by measuring the photofragment S+ excitation (PHOFEX) spectrum in the wavelength range of 424–482 nm, where the CS2+ molecular ions were prepared purely by [3+1] multiphoton ionization of the neutral CS2 molecules at 483.2 nm. The PHOFEX spectrum was assigned essentially to the CS2+(Ã 2Πu)←CS2+(X̃ 2Πg) transition, and the dissociation mechanism of CS2+ was preliminarily attributed to (i) CS2+(X̃ 2Πg)→CS2+(Ã 2Πu) through one-photon excitation, (ii) CS2+(Ã 2Πu)→CS2+(X̃†) via internal conversion process due to the vibronic coupling between the Ã and X̃ states, (iii) CS2+(X̃†)→CS2+(B̃ 2Σu+) through the second photon excitation, and (iv) CS2+(B̃ 2Σu+)→S++CS owing to the potential curve crossing with the repulsive Σ−4 state correlated with the first dissociation limit.

Abstract:One color two-photon 33Σg+←b3Πu∼A1Σu+←X1Σg+ transitions of Cs2 observed earlier [9] have been assigned: the upper state levels span the range of the vibrational and rotational quantum numbers v=2∼9 and N=25∼248. The potential function of the 33Σg+ state in a version of a deformed ab initio potential has been determined from the term values of these levels. The reliability of this potential is confirmed by simulations of the spectra of resolved fluorescence and by comparing with the Rydberg–Klein–Rees potential obtained from an alternative set of data in [13].

Abstract:The second dissociation channel (CS 2 + → CS + (X 2 Σ) + S( 3 P)) of CS 2 + molecular ions has been investigated by measuring the photofragment CS + excitation (PHOFEX) spectrum in the wavelength range of 385-435 nm, where the CS 2 + molecular ions were prepared purely by [3 + 1] multiphoton ionization of the neutral CS 2 molecules at 483.2 nm. The CS + PHOFEX spectrum was assigned essentially to the CS 2 + (A 2 Π u ) ← CS 2 + (Χ 2 Π g ) transition, such as the S + PHOFEX spectrum, which has been obtained previously. The product branching ratios (CS + /S + ), as measured from the PHOFEX spectra, increase from 0 to slightly larger than 1 in the wavenumber range of 47200-50400 cm - 1 . The adiabatic appearance potential of the CS + ion was determined to be 5.852 ′ 0.005 eV above the Χ 2 Π g , 3 / 2 (0,0,0) level of CS 2 + from the appearance wavenumber of 47196.2 cm - 1 to produce the CS + ion. The dissociation mechanism to get to CS + + S from CS 2 + was discussed and preliminarily attributed to (i) CS 2 + (Χ 2 Π g ) → CS 2 + (A 2 Π u ) through one-photon excitation, (ii) CS 2 + (A 2 Π u ) → CS 2 + (X + ) via internal conversion process due to the vibronic coupling between the A and X states, (iii) CS 2 + (X + ) → CS 2 + (B 2 Σ u +) through the second photon excitation, and (iv) CS 2 + (Β 2 Σ u +) → CS + (X 2 Σ) + S( 3 P), because of the potential curve crossing with the repulsive 4 Σ - state and/or the 2 Σ - state correlated with the second dissociation limit.

Abstract:The dynamics on the multi-photon dissociation of CS2+ molecular ions to produce CS+ ions has been investigated by measuring the CS+ photofragment excitation (PHOFEX) spectrum in the wavelength range of 385 similar to 435 nm, where the CS2 (+) molecular ions were prepared purely by [3 + 1] multiphoton ionization of the neutral CS2 molecules at 483.2 nm. However, when the dissociation laser overlaps the ionization laser in time scale in the laser-molecule interaction zone, the appearance threshold is not available in the PHOFEX spectrum.This fact shows that there are other mixed three-photon paths of [1 + 1 + 1'], [ 1 + 1' + 1'], and [1 + 1' + 1] to produce CS+ fragment ion from CS2+ molecular ions besides the above [1 + 1] dissociation mechanism, that is, CS2 (+)((X) over tilde (2) Pi(g)) --> CS2 (+) ((A) over bar (2)Pi(u)) through one-photon excitation [1] of dissociation laser, CS2 (+) ((A) over tilde (2) Pi(u)) --> CS2 (+) ((X) over tilde*) via internal conversion process due to the vibronic coupling between the (A) over tilde and (X) over tilde states, CS2 (+) ((X) over tilde*) --> CS2 (+) ((B) over tilde (2)Sigma(u) (+)) through the second photon excitation by dissociation laser [1] or ionization laser [1'], and third photon excitation by ionization laser [1'] or dissociation laser [1] to reach the adiabatic appearance potential to produce CS+ with the dissociation laser wavelengths longer than 423.89 nm, at which the [1 + 1] dissociation mechanism to get to CS+ is unavailabe.

Abstract:Understanding vacuum ultraviolet photodissociation dynamics of Carbonyl sulfide (OCS) is of considerable importance in the study of atmospheric chemistry. Yet, photodissociation dynamics of the CS(X1Σ+) + O(3Pj=2,1,0) channels following excitation to the 21Σ+(ν1′,1,0) state has not been clearly understood so far. Here, we investigate the O(3Pj=2,1,0) elimination dissociation processes in the resonance-state selective photodissociation of OCS between 147.24 and 156.48 nm by using the time-sliced velocity-mapped ion imaging technique. The total kinetic energy release spectra are found to exhibit highly structured profiles, indicative of the formation of a broad range of vibrational states of CS(1Σ+). The fitted CS(1Σ+) vibrational state distributions differ for the three 3Pj spin–orbit states, but a general trend of the inverted characteristics is observed. Additionally, the wavelength-dependent behaviors are also observed in the vibrational populations for CS(1Σ+, v). The CS(X1Σ+, v = 0) has a significantly strong population at several shorter wavelengths, and the most populated CS(X1Σ+, v) is gradually transferred to a higher vibrational state with the decrease in the photolysis wavelength. The measured overall β-values for the three 3Pj spin–orbit channels slightly increase and then abruptly decrease as the photolysis wavelength increases, while the vibrational dependences of β-values show an irregularly decreasing trend with increasing CS(1Σ+) vibrational excitation at all studied photolysis wavelengths. The comparison of the experimental observations for this titled channel and the S(3Pj) channel reveals that two different intersystem crossing mechanisms may be involved in the formation of the CS(X1Σ+) + O(3Pj=2,1,0) photoproducts via the 21Σ+ state.

Abstract:Potential energy curves of the 3(3)Sigma(+)(g) and a (3)Sigma(+)(u) states of Cs-2 have been determined in the framework of the pseudopotential method. Fifty 3(3)Sigma(+)(g)v = 2-9 <- X-1 Sigma(+)(g) two-photn transiti'o'ns of Cs-2 have been observed in the near infrared wavelength range. Resolved fluorescence into bound levels and the continuum of the a(3)Sigma(+)(u) state has been recorded with a monochromator/photomultiplier detection system. Abstract:The dependence of CS2 predissociation upon rotational quantum number K at vibrational levels below the barrier to linearity of the 1B2(1Sigmau+) state has been investigated in detail with laser spectroscopy, by using a heated supersonic source to increase the intensities of hot band transitions. Predissociation lifetimes were determined from rotational contour simulations of 13 vibronic bands in the CS photofragment excitation (PHOFEX) spectrum, each terminating at the same upper vibrational level but via transitions with different K number (K = 0, 1, 2, respectively). The rovibrational populations of CS fragment at these excitation bands were derived from the laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) spectrum, and were used further to obtain the dissociation branching ratios S(1D)/S(3P) as well as the excess energy partitionings after dissociation. The lifetimes and the branching ratios were found to be sensitively dependent on quantum number K; the lifetime decreases with the increase of K, and the branching ratio increases with K. Analysis shows that quantum number K influences the S(1D) channel more effectively than the S(3P) channel. About 28 and 15% of the total available energy is taken up by the CS vibrational and rotational degrees of freedom, respectively. Systematic analysis indicates that the two electronic states interacting with 1B2(1Sigmau+) state should be bent, and the state correlating with S(1D) channel should be more bent.

Abstract:By preparing CO2+ ions in the X2Πg,1/2(000) state via [3 + 1] multiphoton ionization of CO2 molecules at 333.06 nm, we have obtained the mass-resolved [1 + 1′] two-photon dissociation spectra of CO2+ via the C2Σg+(υ1,υ2,0)←B2Σu+(000)/A2Πu,1/2(000;100)←X2Πg,1/2(000)transitions by fixing the first dissociation laser at 289.77 nm, 351.24 nm, 337.90 nm to excite the CO2+ to B2Σu+(000), A2Πu,1/2(000), A2Πu,1/2(100) state, separately, and scanning the second dissociation laser in the wavelength range of 557–759 nm. The original CO2+(C2Σg+(000)) position of 45 120 ±3 cm−1 above CO2+(X2Πg,1/2(000)) and the spectroscopic constants of ν1=1400±5cm-1, ν2=620±8cm-1 and ν3=2909cm-1 for CO2+(C2Σg+) are deduced from the C2Σg+(υ1,υ2,0)←B2Σu+(000)/A2Πu,1/2(000;100)←X2Πg,1/2(000) transition data. The dependence of the product branching ratios [CO+]/[O+] of CO2+(C2Σg+)on the vibration levels has been observed and the dissociation dynamics of CO2+ via C2Σg+ state is discussed.

Abstract:Quantifying stimulated emission in semiconductor nanocrystals (NCs) remains challenging due to masking of its effects on pump-probe spectra by excited state absorption and ground state bleaching signals. Absence of this defining photo-physical parameter in turn impedes assignment of band edge electronic structure in many of these important fluorophores. Here we employ a generally applicable 3-pulse ultrafast spectroscopic method coined the “Spectator Exciton” (SX) approach to measure stimulated-emission efficiency in quantum confined inorganic perovskite CsPbBr3 NCs, band edge electronic structure of which is the subject of lively ongoing debate. Our results show that in 5-6 nm CsPbBr3 NCs, a single exciton bleaches more than half of the intense band edge absorption band, while the cross section for stimulated emission from the same state is nearly 6 times weaker. Discussion of these findings in light of several recent electronic structure models for this material proves them unable of simultaneously explaining both measures. proving the importance of this new input to resolving this debate. Along with femtosecond time resolved photoluminescence measurements on the same sample, SX results also verifies that biexciton interaction energy is intensely attractive with a magnitude of ~80 meV. In light of this observation, our previous suggestion that bi-exciton interaction is repulsive is reassigned to hot phonon induced slowdown of carrier relaxation leading to direct Auger recombination from an excited state. The mechanism behind the extreme slowing of carrier cooling after several stages of exciton recombination remains to be determined.

Abstract:We report on new observations of the photoassociation spectroscopy of ultracold cesium molecules using a highly sensitive detection technique and a combined analysis with all observed electronic states. The technique is achieved by directly modulating the frequency of the trapping lasers of a magneto-optical trap. New observations of the Cs2 0g−, 0u+, and 1g states at the asymptotes 6S1/2 + 6P1/2 and 6S1/2 + 6P3/2 are reported. The spectral range is extended to the red detuning of 112 cm−1 below the 6S1/2 + 6P3/2 dissociation limit. Dozens of vibrational levels of the ultracold Cs2 0g−, 0u+, and 1g states are observed for the first time. The available experimental binding energies of these states are analyzed simultaneously in a framework of the generalized LeRoy–Bernstein theory and the almost degenerate perturbation theory by Marinescu and Dalgarno [Phys. Rev. A: At., Mol., Opt. Phys. 52, 311 (1995)]. The unique atomic-related parameter c3 governing the dispersion forces of all the molecular states is estimated as (10.29 ± 0.05) a.u.
Photo-induced reaction of the complex Mg+-NCSCH3

Abstract:Photodissociation spectroscopy of the complex Mg+-NCSCH 3 in the spectral region of 230-440 nm was observed. Mass spectrometry of the products for photo-induced reaction in the complex Mg +-NCSCH3 exhibits the product Mg+ from nonreaction quenching and reactive products Mg+NC, Mg+NCS throughout the whole wavelength range. The reactive products originate from the breaking of S-C chemical bonds. The Photodissociation spectrum consists of two broad peaks corresponding to the atomic transition of Mg+(3 2P← 32S). The absorption spectrum by using CIS method of quantum chemical calculation agrees with the experimental spectrum.
