Abstract:As a traditional fusion welding method, arc welding occupies most of the total welding production. However, the current industrial welding robots with the "teaching and playback" mode cannot satisfy the requirements of modern welding manufacturing. To overcome this major challenge, advanced sensing technology can be used to efficiently imitate and reproduce the welder's senses and brain. Many recent studies on application of sensing technology have promoted the development of robotic arc welding toward intelligent welding. In this paper, from the perspective of intelligent welding systems (IWS), the application of advanced sensing technology in the pre-process, in-process, and post-process stages of intelligent robotic arc welding is summarized and discussed. First, the development and application of various sensing technologies and multisensor fusion technologies for intelligent arc welding are reviewed and discussed. Subsequently, according to the different objectives of each welding stage, the advanced sensing technologies, including those for weld path recognition, weld seam tracking, weld pool monitoring, weld quality diagnosis, and weld bead inspection, are summarized and compared. Finally, a summary is provided and future prospects are put forward. This paper reviews the research progress of sensing technology for different monitoring objectives of intelligent robotic arc welding, and to provide a basis for future work.

Abstract:The use of sensors is of paramount importance for closing the feedback control loops that secure efficient and automated/autonomous operation of mobile robots in real-life applications. This paper reviews the development of sensing in welding robot and vision sensing for the weld line inspection. The robot requires several types of sensors for balancing and path planning. High accuracy and resolution of these sensors is of paramount importance for successful control of the robot. In this paper we review some of these sensors and evaluate their suitability for use in the robot. Various vision sensors and position sensors are reviewed and their advantages and disadvantages are discussed. These sensors have been incorporated and evaluated.

Abstract:Multiple sensors of various source have been increasingly applied into different civilian situations as well as robotic welding process monitoring. How to take full advantage of these information, more importantly, scientifically fusion multisensory data for the specific application system may be of great challenge. In this paper, different sensing technique used for real-time welding quality monitoring were briefly reviewed and discussed in terms of their ability for implementation of data fusion system. Then, a feature-level data fusion application case of aluminum GTAW condition monitoring will be given with thoroughly discussion. This paper will provide some guidance for implementation of fusion system for process monitoring and defect detection.

Abstract:Vision-based sensors play an essential role in robotic welding, which attract increasing attention by scholars because of its non-contact characteristic, high precision, fast detection, and strong adaptability. This paper summarizes the recent research developments of vision sensor-based intelligent robotic welding and analyzes their characteristics and application scenarios in the welding process. The applications of vision sensing technologies are illustrated, especially in visual calibration, initial welding position guidance, weld seam tracking, weld pool monitoring, correlation deformation detection, and defect identification. At the end of this paper, the promising development directions of intelligent robotic welding technologies are discussed, including the hardware developments of vision sensors, optimization of image processing algorithms, the combination of passive vision and active vision, multi-sensor information fusion, and applications of artificial intelligence.

Abstract:Arc welding is the common method used in traditional welding, which constitutes the majority of total welding production. The traditional manual and manual teaching welding method has problems with high labor costs and limited efficiency when faced with mass production. With the advancement in technology, intelligent welding technology is expected to become a solution to this problem in the future. To achieve the intelligent welding process, modern sensing technology can be employed to effectively simulate the welder's sensory perception and cognitive abilities. Recent studies have advanced the application of sensing technologies, leading to the advancement in intelligent welding process. The review is divided into two aspects. First, the theory and applications of various sensing technologies (visual, sound, arc, spectral signal, etc.) are summarized. Then, combined with the generalization of neural networks and attention mechanisms, the development trends in welding sensing information processing and modeling technology are discussed. Based on the existing research results, the feasibility, advantages, and development direction of attention mechanisms in the welding field are analyzed. In the end, a brief conclusion and remarks are presented.

Abstract:During the process of welding the lattice-shaped welding seam in the hall,the environment information around the welding seam can not be obtained totally only by the arc sensor.It is difficult to weld the right-angle seam automatically.A method of welding the right-angle seam automatically is designed,in which the obstacle is found by the ultrasonic sensor using its range finding principle instead of the touch sensor;and the deviation is gained by the arc sensor.With the reasonable control to the robot,the welding of the right-angle welding seam with seam automatic tracking can be finished.

Abstract: To meet the requirements for automation of welding robot, the author suggests an optimal design of multifunctional vision sensor system for welding robot, which have many features, such as remote controling, resisting disturbance from arc, welding environment identifying, initial welding seam guiding, seam tracking, penetration controlling and so on. The vision sensor is used to acquire some ideal images of stainless steel welding process experiments. It will set up the foundation for the later robot welding quality control. The multifunctional vision sensor presented in the paper is showing important practical value as it is simple in construction, low in cost and strong in practicability.

Abstract:Abstract : This article describes a weld seam tracking sensor which has a type of pulse modulated infrared beam as its signal light source. Going through signal reception filters and 'adaptive elimination of noise' processing, it is possible to effectively overcome interference from electric arc light. Making use of the light source pulse driven characteristics, the instantaneous signal power is greatly added to, improving the adaptation of optical sensors to the surfaces of pieces of work. The sensors' structure is simple. Their volume is small. Their sensitivity is high. And, they are capable of realizing, at the same time, automatic tracking of weld seams in the two horizontal and altitude directions. It is capable of precision tracking in both submerged arc and open arc automatic welding.

Abstract:Welding is a method of realizing material connections, and the development of modern sensing technology is pushing this traditional process towards automation and intelligence. Among many sensing methods, visual sensing stands out with its advantages of non-contact, fast response and economic benefits, etc. This paper provides a comprehensive review of visualization methods in the context of specific welding processes in the following five aspects. The problem of IWP location is summarized from two directions of active and passive vision. Weld seam identification and tracking methods are discussed in detail based on the morphological characteristics of the weld seam. The feasibility of different weld path planning methods is analyzed based on the point cloud information and the composite vision information. Two types of monitoring means based on infrared sensing and visible light sensing are summarized taking into account the thermal and morphological characteristics of the weld pool, and welding defect detection technology is summarized by comparing the intelligent detection algorithms and the traditional detection algorithms. Finally, by combining the existing developments in computer technology, composite sensing technology, machine learning technology, and multi-robot control technology, the article concludes with a and trends in the development of automated welding technologies.

Abstract:A FANUC robotic welding system is developed to improve the ability of the traditional "teach and playback" robots to adjust to variations of the welding environment. The system acquires welding images through the CCD camera, and then these images are transmitted to the computer to display, save or process; acquires the welding current and voltage through arc sensors, then the analog signals are converted to the digital signals by AD convert module of the DSP, and finally the data is transmitted to the computer through serial communication. Based on the above information sensing system, signal processing methods are designed to extract the seam position offset and the height offset from the acquired information; the data transmission program is developed to transmit the offset from the computer to robot controller based on the Ethernet communication, and the seam tracking function is realized.
Novel low-cost vision sensing technology with controllable of exposal time for welding

Abstract:In the process of robot Welding, position of welding seam and welding pool shape is detected by CCD camera for quality control and seam tracking in real-time. It is difficult to always get a clear welding image in some welding methods, such as TIG welding. A novel idea that the exposal time of CCD camera is automatically controlled by arc voltage or arc luminance is proposed to get clear welding image. A set of special device and circuits are added to a common industrial CCD camera in order to flexibly control the CCD to start or close exposal by control of the internal clearing signal of the accumulated charge. Two special vision sensors according to the idea are developed. Their exposal grabbing can be triggered respectively by the arc voltage and the variety of the arc luminance. Two prototypes have been designed and manufactured. Experiments show that they can stably grab clear welding images at appointed moment, which is a basic for the feedback control of automatic welding.
Principle of an Innovative Visual Sensor Based on Combined Laser Structured Lights and Its Experimental Verification

Abstract:To promote development of sensing technology applied in the welding process and improvement of production automation in the welding manufacturing industry, an innovative multi-functional monocular visual sensor based on combined laser structured lights (single-line & cross-lines) is proposed and devised. It can realize the detection of cross-sectional size parameters of welding groove, space position and posture of welding torch relative to the weldment or welding groove by using monocular vision. Its calibration makes full use of the intrinsic parameters, such as its internal structure parameters and the focal length of industrial CCD camera. Therefore, it is unnecessary to re-calibrate when the position and posture of welding torch have some variations during the welding process or the visual sensor reassembles with the welding torch, which availably improves the adaptability of this sensor in engineering application, so that it can apply to the welding process with complex space welding trajectory. Furthermore, with the use of combined laser structured lights, it effectively eliminates the problem of information loss in depth commonly existing in usual monocular visual sensor. Meanwhile, all the detection functions of this sensor are derived from the processing results of a single image captured by industrial CCD camera, which avoids the problems of time-consuming and large amount of calculation resulting from multi-images processing (multi-vision method or multi-angle time-sharing imaging in monocular vision), and thus significantly improves its real-time performance in engineering application. Its functional detection algorithms for the cross-sectional size parameters of welding groove and the height of welding torch derived from the principle of optical triangulation are given. After establishing a test platform, we carried out a series of detecting experiments for different types or sizes of V-type butt groove. By image processing, recognition and extraction of the feature points, the cross-sectional size parameters of welding groove and the height of welding torch calculate out through the derived detection algorithms. The acquired detection results have enough accuracy and their maximum relative errors are not exceeding 3.9%, which demonstrate the rationality of the physical design for the proposed visual sensor and the validity of the derived detection algorithms.

Abstract:In this paper, a novel visual image sensor was designed to detect the weld pool images during CO2 short circuiting arc welding. Based on a charge coupled device (CCD) camera, the new sensor was smaller than the previous one. As a result, larger operation space is achieved for the welding torch which is attached to it. Moreover, the mismatching problem between the fixed shooting schedule of the CCD camera and the random short circuiting metal transfer during welding was successfully resolved. By eliminating the influences from welding arc and spatter, clear and complete welding pool images were acquired from different angles around the welding torch. Based on these images, the shape parameters of the welding pool were defined and the relationship between these parameters and weld reinforcement was analysed. In addition, the multiple linear regression (MLR) model and the artificial neutral network (ANN) model were proposed and trained, respectively, to detect weld reinforcement from weld pool images. Results of both the MLR model and the ANN model show that weld reinforcement can successfully be detected.
