Abstract:In this study, the microstructure, martensitic transformation, stabilization of the stress-induced martensite and shape memory effect of (Cu78Al12Fe4Mn6)(100-x)Zr-x (x = 1 and 2) and (Cu78Al12Fe4Mn6)(100-y)Nb-y (y = 1 and 2) alloys were investigated. All alloys exhibit bcc phase separation, resulting in a microstructure consisted of dominant L2(1)-Cu2AlMn parent, fine bcc beta(Fe,Al,Zr) or beta(Fe,Al,Nb) phase and a small quantity of 2 H martensite. All the studied alloys show the reversible martensitic transformation, and the forwards martensitic transformation temperatures are below room temperature. Although the alloys have main L2(1) parent before deformation, during deformation and after unloading, the stress-induced 2 H martensite can be stabilized due to the resistance of a large amount of beta(Fe,Al,Zr) or beta(Fe,Al,Nb) particles. Furthermore, the stabilization degree of the stress-induced martensite happens more obviously while further increasing the amounts of particles. The stabilized martensite can be recovered through heating, thus the alloys possess good shape memory properties. The largest shape memory effects are 4.1%, 4.4%, 4.4% and 4.0% respectively for x = 1, 2, and y = 1, 2 alloys.
