Abstract:Two new guaianolides, namely, 3β,8α-dihydroxy-13-methoxyl-4(14),10(15)-dien-(1αH,5αH,6β H,11βH)-12,6-olide (1) and 3β,8α-dihydroxy-13-methoxyl-4(14),10(15)-dien-(1αH,5αH,6β H,11αH)-12,6-olide (2), together with six known guaianolides, 8-hydroxyzaluzanin C, austricin, chlorojanerin, cynaropicrin, chlorohyssopifolin E and chlorohyssopifolin A were isolated from the aerial parts of Saussurea alata. The structures were established mainly based on spectral analysis, especially 2D NMR techniques.

Abstract:From the methanol extract of the whole plant of Saussurea macrota Franch, 21 compounds were isolated. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods and X-ray crystallography. Two of them are new: 3alpha-hydroxy-11alphaH-guaia-4(15),10(14)-diene-12,6alpha-olide (1) and 7'-hydroxyiso-lappaol A (11). Compound 2 is reported as a natural compound for the first time. In addition, the compounds 12 and 13 showed significant antitumor activity against Bel-7402 and HO-8910 cells. Some of the compounds exhibited weak antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis and Escherichia coli.

Abstract:Two new guaianolides, 8α‐hydroxy‐11α,13‐dihydroglucozaluzanin C and 11α,13‐dihydroglucozaluzanin C, were isolated from Ainsliaea fragrans , along with two known guaianolides, 8α‐hydroxy‐11α,13‐dihydrozaluzanin C and glucozaluzanin C. The structures of the new compounds were unambiguously established by HR‐ESI‐MS, one‐dimensional (1D) (DEPT), two‐dimensional (2D) ( 1 H 1 H COSY, HSQC, HMBC, ROESY) NMR experiments and by comparison with structurally related compounds. The known compounds were identified by comparison of spectral data with published references. Some NMR data of the known compounds were reported for the first time. Abstract:Six previously undescribed C17-guaianolides, a previously undescribed guaianolide alkaloid, and two previously undescribed guaianolides as well as 10 known guaianolides were obtained from an ethanol extract of Ainsliaea yunnanensis Franch. The chemical structures of all previously reported sesquiterpenoids were determined by extensive NMR spectroscopic analysis in combination with a modified Mosher's method. All isolates were in vitro screened for inhibitory effect against nitric oxide release in RAW 264.7 macrophages stimulated by LPS. Zaluzanin C remarkably inhibited the production of nitric oxide with an IC50 value of 6.54 μM.

Abstract:Eight undescribed guaianolides (macrocephalolides A-H) and two known analogues (parishin C, artabsinolide E) were isolated from the whole plant of Artemisia macrocephala growing in Xinjiang, China. Their structures were determined on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analysis, with absolute configurations established by comparison of experimental and calculated ECD data, as well as confirmation of single-crystal X-ray diffraction crystallography. Macrocephalolides A-B featured an unusual type of 3-oxa-guaianolide with a cyclopentenone moiety. Macrocephalolides C-E possessed a dihydro-2H-pyran acetal segment, representing an unprecedented 2, 3-secoguaianolide skeleton with 6/7/5 tricyclic ring system in natural sesquiterpenes. The X-ray crystal structures of parishin C and artabsinolide E were reported for the first time.

Abstract:Two new guaiane-type sesquiterpenoids (1 and 2) and one new eudesmane-type sesquiterpenoid (3) were isolated from Saussurea laniceps. The structures of these compounds were established by spectroscopic methods, and the absolute stereochemistry of compounds 1 and 2 was determined by Mosher's method. The immunomodulatory activities of compounds 1-3 were evaluated. Of these, compound 3 showed significant inhibition of the proliferation of murine T and B cells in vitro.

Abstract:A new guaiane-type sesquiterpene glycoside, torilolone 8-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (1), together with a known analogue compound, torilolone 11-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (2), was isolated from the fruits of Daucus carota L. Their chemical structures were elucidated on the basis of MS, NMR spectroscopic analyses coupled with chemical degradation.
