Abstract:Two new carabrane sesquiterpenes, 4,8-dioxo-6β-methoxy-7β,11-epoxy carabrane (1), and its isomer, 4,8-dioxo-6β-methoxy-7α,11-epoxy carabrane (2) were isolated from the roots of Vladimiria souliei. Abstract:To investigate the chemical constituents of Saussurea deltoidea, 10 compounds were isolated from the title plant by various chromatography methods such as silica gel, RP-18 silica gel, Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography, HPLC, et al. Their structures were elucidated by spectral analysis. Five isoprenoids and Five phenylpropanoids were isolated and elucidated as (3R, 6R, 7E) -3-hydroxy-4, 7-megastigmadien-9-one (1), (3S, 5R, 6S, 7E) -5, 6-epoxy-3-hydroxy-7-megastigmen-9-one (2), 3-hydroxy-beta-damascone (3), S-(+) -dehydrovomifoliol (4), megastigman-5-ene-3beta, 9R-diol (5), coniferaldehyde (6), beta-hydroxypropiovanillone (7), 3-hydroxy-1-(4-hydroxy-3, 5-dimethoxyphenyl) -1-propanone (8), dihydrosyringenin (9), 4-[(1S) -3-hydroxy-1-methoxypropyl]-2, 6-dimenthoxyphenol (10). All the compounds were isolated from S. deltoidea for the first time.

Abstract:A survey of the whole plant of Saussurea parviflora afforded three compounds 11,12,13-trihydroxy-4(15),8-eudesmadiene-9-one, eudesman-8beta,12-olide-1-O-beta-D-glucoside and 1beta,3beta-dihydroxyursa-9(11),12-diene-3-octadecanoate, as well as 13 known compounds. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectral evidence, especially by using NMR spectroscopic techniques. In addition, encelin exhibited effective antitumor activity on L02, SMMC-7721 and HO-8910 cells.

Abstract:From the fruits of Celastrus orbiculatus Thunb. a new beta-dihydroagarofuran sesquiterpene ester named 1beta,2beta,13-triacetoxy-9alpha-cinnamoyloxy-beta-dihydroagarofuran (1) has been isolated along with two known compounds, 6alpha-acetoxy-1beta, 9beta-dibenzoyloxy-8beta-hydroxy-beta-dihydroagarofuran (2), and 1beta, 6alpha-diacetoxy-9beta-benzoyloxy-8beta-hydroxy-beta-dihydroagarofuran ( 3). Their structures were elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic data.

Abstract:From the methanol extract of the whole plant of Saussurea macrota Franch, 21 compounds were isolated. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods and X-ray crystallography. Two of them are new: 3alpha-hydroxy-11alphaH-guaia-4(15),10(14)-diene-12,6alpha-olide (1) and 7'-hydroxyiso-lappaol A (11). Compound 2 is reported as a natural compound for the first time. In addition, the compounds 12 and 13 showed significant antitumor activity against Bel-7402 and HO-8910 cells. Some of the compounds exhibited weak antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis and Escherichia coli.

Abstract:Two new guaianolides, namely, 3β,8α-dihydroxy-13-methoxyl-4(14),10(15)-dien-(1αH,5αH,6β H,11βH)-12,6-olide (1) and 3β,8α-dihydroxy-13-methoxyl-4(14),10(15)-dien-(1αH,5αH,6β H,11αH)-12,6-olide (2), together with six known guaianolides, 8-hydroxyzaluzanin C, austricin, chlorojanerin, cynaropicrin, chlorohyssopifolin E and chlorohyssopifolin A were isolated from the aerial parts of Saussurea alata. The structures were established mainly based on spectral analysis, especially 2D NMR techniques.

Abstract:Phytochemical investigation of the fruits of Daucus carota L. resulted in the isolation of a new sesquiterpene named as daucucarotol (1). Its structure was elucidated on the basis of 1D and 2D NMR experiments, coupled with MS studies. To our knowledge, compound 1 is the first example for a natural eudesmane sesquiterpene with a hydroxymethyl group located at a methine carbon rather than a usual quaternary carbon in the two fused six-membered ringsystems.

Abstract:A new sesquiterpene lactone with an unusual sulfonic acid group, 13-sulfo-dihydrodehydrocostus lactone (1), was isolated from the roots of Saussurea lappa C. Abstract:Thirty-six naturally occurring compounds, including four C10-acetylenic glycosides and a lignan, were isolated from the whole plants of Saussurea cordifolia. Abstract:Objective:To determine the chemical constituents of Saussurea deltoidea(DC.) Schulz-Bip.Methods:The chromatographic methods were used to isolate compounds,such as silica gel column chromatography,Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography,and HPLC.The spectroscopic methods like MS,1H-NMR and 13C-NMR were used to elucidate the structures of isolated compounds.Results:Nine compounds were isolated and elucidated from Saussurea deltoidea(DC.) Schulz-Bip:11-hydroxy-11,13-dihydrocostol(1),6-O-(2-methylpropenoyl)-3β-hydroxy-4(15),10(14),11(13)-guaiatrien-12,8-olide(2),falbellin(3),(+)-1-hydroxypinoresinol(4),(±)-evofolin B(5),indole-3-aldehyde(6),syringaldehyde(7),loliolide(8),and 7-epi-loliolide(9).Conclusion:All the 9 compounds are isolated from Saussurea deltoidea for the first time.

Abstract:Two new sesquiterpenes deltoiden A (1) and deltoiden B (2), and two new lignans deltoignan A (9) and deltoignan B (10), together with 14 known compounds, including six sesquiterpenes 3-8 and three lignans 11-13, were isolated from the whole plant of Saussurea deltoidea. Compounds 3-8 and 11-17 were isolated for the first time from this plant. Their structures were established by spectroscopic analysis, including 2D-NMR spectroscopic techniques. Cytotoxicities of compounds 1-13 were tested against three cancer cell lines A549, Hela and SMMC-7721. Results showed that 5, 6 and 7 exhibited cytotoxicity against SMMC-7721 with the IC(50) values of 6.49, 9.53, 1.23 μg/ml, 5 and 7 against A549 with the IC(50) values of 4.99 and 5.35 μg/ml, 5, 6, 7, 13 against Hela with the IC(50) values of 1.40, 4.75, 0.93 and 5.42 μg/ml, respectively. The structure-activity relationships of sesquiterpenes 1-8 were discussed on the base of cytotoxic results.
