Abstract:Since coal-fired power plants represent a significant fraction of the anthropogenic emissions of mercury into the atmosphere, the speciation of mercury in coal-fired power plant flue gas is currently an active topic of research. In China, these works just begin. With Ontario Hydro method, this article researches into H, speciation during coal combustion. The experimental results indicate that combustion temperature is the primary factor in affecting mercury vaporization and release. The experimental measurement also shows high mercury levels in the particulate phase. Particle-associated mercury is enriched in fly ash and dispersed in bottom ash. For gaseous mercury, the levels of mercury oxidation are 17% - 48% for the limited chemical kinetics and the short resident time in flue gas. The experimentation also shows the need for additional development work to thoroughly understand the mercury transformation and release in flue gas.
