Abstract:In this work, we will study the problem of applying natural neighbor interpolation in real-time application environments. First, we will see how this method can be used in time critical environments by adopting some fast algorithms for locating points and computing function values. Then, we will build a framework for testing both the time efficiency and the value accuracy of this interpolation method applied for the electromagnetic tracker calibration problem. Experiment results show that this method will be a good candidate for real-time interpolation based applications. © 2008 IEEE.
High Precision Time Interval Measurement Method Based on Interpolating Sampling Technology

Abstract:Aimed at the shortcoming of the existing time interval measurement methods,a new method which is based on interpolating sampling technology is proposed.By converting the principle error's measurement to the phase measurement of reference signal,high precision is achieved.This method completely eliminates traditional methods' principle error and also solves the contradiction between measurement range and precision,so that real-time measurement is fulfilled.Theoretic analysis and computer simulation indicate that this method is feasible and effective.

Abstract:The resolution of traditional time interpolation is equal to the of the delay unit.In this paper,a new time interpolation method based on event delay and primary clock delay is proposed.Two different delay units are used to delay the event signal and the primary clock separately.Several primary clocks with different phases are used to latch up the corresponding signals at all nodes of the event delay chain.And time interpolation is achieved according to the latch-up results.Simulation results indicate that time interpolation method based on event delay and primary clock delay can get a higher rsolution than the traditional methods,furthermore,it can save delay units.

Abstract:High-end equipment manufacturing industry has increasing requirements on high-resolution performances. To improve the measurement resolution obtainable from signals of sinusoidal sensors for digital measuring instruments and equipment, a self-adaptive interpolation method is proposed. A series of time periods of the sensor signal for equal spatial pitches are measured as measurement samples, and a spatial displacement interpolation method is performed using analysis on these time quantum. Using one-step-ahead forecast method, the time period of the sensor signal for the next spatial pitch is forecast based on correlation among the past measured time samples. A series of clock pulses with equal spatial equivalent are used as reference signals to interpolate sinusoidal signals from the sensors. In addition, an equivalent closed-loop control method is proposed to decrease the accumulated interpolation errors in real time. The experimental results prove that the maximum interpolation number achieves 400, and the actual measured interpolation errors are within $- 1.2^{\prime \prime }$ to $1.1^{\prime \prime }$ . The proposed interpolation method benefitting from the programming techniques provides an interesting possibility with the most cost-effective hardware to further improve the resolution performances.

Abstract:This paper makes the fast computation method of fractional Fourier transform (FrFT) by Ozaktas more perfect. The different effect of two interpolation methods, including spline interpolation and Shannon interpolation, on the fast computation of FrFT is investigated. The results show that Shannon interpolation method has a better performance and is preferable to other interpolation methods, which makes the fast computation of FrFT more elegant and is useful for application in many fields.

Abstract:Waveform digitization at sampling rates up to several giga-samples per second is one of the approaches to achieve high-precision time measurements. In recent years, achieving high precision at lower sampling rates has emerged as a significant research topic. In this article, we focus on time measurement electronics, in which the bandpass sampling method is applied to obtain high precision at a sampling rate of roughly 100 MSps. An analog front-end circuit is designed, in which the input pulse signal is bandpass-filtered and amplified before sampling. A pipelined real-time time extraction algorithm is designed using the techniques of interpolation and cross correlation. A 1024-point fast Fourier transform algorithm is adopted to implement the cross correlation operation. Four time measurement channels are implemented in a mid-range field-programmable gate array, and the measurement rate of 116 kHz is achieved. Tests are conducted to evaluate the performance of the timing system. The typical RMS precision is better than 0.4 ps.

Abstract:High-precision time interval measurement is widely used in time synchronization, satellite navigation, laser ranging, and nuclear electronics. The resolution and accuracy of the currently used time counter are about 25 and 100 ps, respectively. A new time interval measurement method, in which the signal under test is used to trigger a sampler and the phase of the reference sinusoid signal is sampled to record the time stamp of the test signal, was put forward. Then, the sampled reference sine signal's phase is estimated by the interpolated fast Fourier transform (FFT), and 1-ps resolution and accuracy can theoretically be achieved. The test experiment of the prototype instrument shows that a 10-ps accuracy has been reached. If the hardware prototype is improved to reduce trigger jitter and sampling clock jitter, the measurement instrument may reach 1-ps accuracy. The measurement system is used not only for time interval measurement but also for period measurement and even modulation domain analysis.

Abstract:An interpolation circuit based upon the looking-up table by hardware is presented. Output data of two A/D convertors are connected to ROM's address bus. The memory space of ROM is divided. When the address bus is activated by A/D conversion's output data, the ROM's output data is interpolation data. This circuit has high response speed, and it is easy to obtain high interpolation multiple. The same kind of hardware circuit can achieve different interpolation multiple by modifying ROM's data. It is very convenient and flexible. The principle of direction judgment and counting is analyzed; the implementation speed and maximal interpolation multiple are discussed in this paper. Finally through experiment, make sure this circuit not only has the characteristic of high response speed and high interpolation multiple, but also avoids the counting error of micro-computer interpolation.

Abstract:Clock pulse interpolation method which relies on the software implementation is widely used in the measurement occasions when grating is used. For the displacement less than a grating pitch, common method is to estimate it using adjacent cycle information based on constant speed model or linear model. When the measured object moved with constant speed, these two methods would not introduce errors. However, when the measured object moved with constant acceleration or constant jerk, principle errors would be produced in these two methods. For this problem, this paper developed a method to measure the displacement less than one cycle in clock pulse interpolation method’s applications based on constant acceleration model. Simulation result demonstrated that this method will not introduce error when the measured object moves with constant acceleration, and its overall effect is better than the estimation effect using constant speed model or linear model when the object moves with constant jerk.

Abstract:The performance of two implementations of digital real-time interpolating constant fraction discriminator algorithms with respect to fast-timing lifetime measurements are investigated. The implementations integrated in two different digitizers were evaluated in terms of the effects of tuning parameters of the digital CFDs and the influence of different input amplitudes on the time resolution and time walk characteristics. Reference is made to the existing analog standard of fast-timing techniques. The study shows, that the timing performance of both modules is comparable to established fast-timing setups using analog constant fraction discriminators, but with the added benefit of digital processing. Both digitizer modules were found to be highly effective and user-friendly instruments for modern fast-timing requirements.

Abstract:This paper discusses several used method of calculating the speed of grating sensor,as well as the advantages and disadvantages of various methods.In accordance with the needs of the moving control system,presented a new interpolation algorithm based on the speed of calculation.Experiments show that this method has better real-time,and overcome the velocity compute problem at the situation of very-low speed,this algorithm can apply to any occasion which use the grating sensor to compute speed.
Measurement of Tiny Displacement with Fast Sampling by A Heterodyne Interferometer and Error Analysis

Abstract:In order to improve tiny displacement measurement accuracy of heterodyne interferometer,based on its principle several error sources which affect measurement accuracy,such as non-linear error,strip high exponential terms,stabilization of laser and phase fractionization,were analyzed.The heterodyne interference was sampled by a super high speed camera named PhantomV12.1.The gray level distribution of the sampling image was calculated.From the cyclic variation its correlation coefficient,the displacement and its measurement accuracy were obtained.The results indicate that sampling frame speed is directly proportional to displacement distinguishing ability and enhancing sampling frame speed can diminish the effect of variable velocity and sampling error on the accuracy.Test data indicate that measurement precision improves distinctively when the frame speed is below 1000FPS,with finy uniform velocity,and decreases when the kinematic velocity grows up.

Abstract:An approach to measuring time delay with high speed and high precision is proposed based on using complementary frequency-swept light and frequency-shifted dechirping. The complementary frequency-swept light is generated by up-converting a linear frequency-modulated waveform into the optical domain, which sweeps linearly and fast. The frequency-shifted dechirping operation and a phase-noise-elimination algorithm are utilized to suppress the phase noise of the optical source, which enables high-precision time delay measurement without limitation of the coherence time on the measurement range. In the experiment, the bandwidth of the linear frequency-modulated waveform is set to be 4 GHz. The time delay of a spool of single-mode fiber with a length of 1 km is measured by using two different laser sources with linewidths of 1.9 MHz and 27 kHz. The standard deviations of the measured time delay are 0.42 ps and 0.52 ps, respectively, indicating that the optical phase noise has a negligible impact on the measurement results. Allan deviation is used to calculate the relative measurement errors, which are 1×10 -7 and 4×10 -9 within a measurement duration of 30 μs and 4.53 ms, respectively. Besides, the time delay change of an optical tunable delay line with a tuning step of 4 ps is clearly distinguished. Hence, this scheme can achieve ultrafast and high-precision time delay measurement within a large range.

Abstract:Based on the sampling theorem, interpolation should be conducted by employing the sinc functions as the kernels. Inspired by the fact that the discrete Fourier transform (DFT) is sampled from the discrete time Fourier transform, a fast signal interpolation algorithm based on zero-padding and fast Fourier transform (FFT) and inverse FFT (IFFT) is presented. This algorithm gives a good approximate of the ideal interpolation, in spite of the windowing effect. The fundamental difference of this algorithm and the ideal sinc interpolation is unveiled, and shown to be deeply rooted in the connection of the sinc function and the Dirichlet function.

Abstract:A kind of frequency measurement technique which adopt s a new method of adaptive and equal-precision is introduced.By comparison with traditional measurements,this measurement solves the equal-precision problem o n account of the existence of count error by ±1 successfully.Adopting adaptive subparagraph-installed optimal time-limit gate,it eliminates deficiency caus ed by the delay of the predetermined gate,simplifies circuit structure,and ach ieves the purpose of broad scope and high-precision measurement.Microcomputer is applied to design software and hardware system of this frequency measurement.The actual experimental data show that the frequency arranging from 0.01 Hz to 500 kHz can be measured exactly and measurement accuracy is above 0.001 Hz.

Abstract:For the multi-frequency signal under the condition of asynchronous sampling, the spectral leakages such as the negative frequency leakage, long-range leakage and short-range leakage in Fourier transform will influence the accuracy of harmonic analysis. To reduce the measurement errors caused by these effects, a new interpolated discrete Fourier transform (DFT) algorithm using three greatest spectral lines is presented. In this new algorithm, the analytical formulas for the harmonic frequency are obtained by applying the Chebyshev best approximation theory. These formulas can be easily implemented by hardware multipliers, which is convenient for real-time measurement. The simulation and experiment results show the presented algorithm has high accuracy and good anti-jamming capacity.

Abstract:This paper proposes novel high-precision simulation technology for high-dynamics signal simulators used for performance validation in high-speed application environments, such as the global navigation satellite system or telemetry, tracking, and command systems. The proposed method is based on piecewise Hermite cubic interpolation, and regenerates the satellite-to-earth distance from the available sparse motion data. A convolution equation is derived to implement the interpolation using an interpolation filter. Therefore, distance interpolation can be performed with digital circuitry without having to explicitly solve for the interpolation polynomial using floating-point calculations. The Hermite interpolator design is based on polyphase or Farrow structures, depending on whether the required sample rate conversion (SRC) ratio is integer or fractional, respectively. The implementation complexities of both structures are shown to be acceptable. The proposed technology is validated and compared with existing methods. It is shown that the proposed approach is applicable to arbitrary SRC ratios, maintains the continuity of both distance and velocity, and improves their simulation precision by up to 98.5% and 95.7%, respectively. Additionally, it reduces the computation complexity (additions and multiplications) by up to 90.4% and 87.5%, respectively.
