Abstract:Reaction of [(2-phosphino)ethenyl]zirconocene chloride (1) with CpM(CO)(3)Cl (M = Mo, W) in THF yielded the [(3-phosphino)propenoyl]dicarbonyl(cyclopentadienyl)metals {CpM(CO)(2)[(CO)CR=CRPPh2]} (2). When the reaction between [(2-phosphino)ethenyl]zirconocene chloride (1) and CpMo(CO)(3)Cl was carried out in the presence of a catalytic amount of Pd(CH3CN)(2)Cl-2, [(3-phosphino)propenoyl]dicarbonyl(cyclopentadienyl)molybdenum, {CpMo(CO)(2)[(CO)CR=CRPPh2]}, was exclusively observed. When [(2-phosphino)ethenyl]zirconocene chloride (1) and MeCpW(CO)(3)Cl were reacted in the presence of a catalytic amount of CuCl, [(3-phosphino)propenoyl]dicarbonyl(methylcyclopentadienyl)tungsten, {MeCpW(CO)(2)[(CO)CR=CRPPh2]}, was formed. Their structures are determined by X-ray diffraction analysis.

Abstract:Reactions of diynes RCC-X-CCR with zirconocene ethylene complex Cp(2)Zr(CH2=CH2) were investigated. When X was C6H4 or C4H2S, bridged zirconacyclopentenes were selectively formed. They were easily converted into bridged cyclopentenone derivatives. In the case of (CH2)(n) groups as X, the reaction products were strongly dependent on the R group.

Abstract:Molybdenum complexes with the general formula Mo(NR)(CHR')(OR '')(Cl)(MeCN) (R = t-Bu or 1-adamantyl; OR '' = a 2,6-terphenoxide) recently have been found to be highly active catalysts for cross-metathesis reactions between Z-internal olefins and Z-1,2-dichloroethylene or Z-(CF3)CH=CH(CF3). In this paper we report methods of synthesizing new potential catalysts with the general formula M(NR)(CHR')(OR '')(Cl)(L) in which M = Mo or W, NR = N-2,6-diisopropylphenyl or NC6F5, and L is a phosphine, a pyridine, or a nitrile. We also test and compare all catalysts in the cross-metathesis of Z-1,2-dichloroethylene and cyclooctene. Our investigations indicate that tungsten complexes are inactive in the test reaction either because the donor is bound too strongly or because acetonitrile inserts into a W=C bond. The acetonitrile or pivalonitrile Mo(NR)(CHR')(OR '')(Cl)(L) complexes are found to be especially reactive because the 14e Mo(NR)(CHR')(OR '')Cl core is accessible through dissociation of the nitrile to a significant extent. Pivalonitrile can be removed (>95%) from Mo(NAr)(CHCMe2Ph)(OHMT)(Cl)(t-BuCN) (Ar = 2,6-diisopropylphenyl; OHMT = 2,6-dimesitylphenoxide) to give 14e Mo(NAr)(CHCMe2Ph)(OHMT)Cl in solution as a mixture of syn and anti (60:40 at 0.015 M) nitrile-free isomers, but these 14e complexes have not yet been isolated in pure form. The syn isomer of Mo(NAr)(CHCMe2Ph)(OHMT)Cl binds pivalonitrile most strongly. Other Mo(NR)(CHR')(OR '')(Cl)(L) complexes can be activated through addition of B(C6F5)(3). High stereoselectivities (>98% Z,Z) of CICH=CH(CH2)(6)CH=CHCl are not restricted to tert-butylimido or adamantylimido complexes; 96.2% Z selectivity is observed with boron-activated Mo(NC6F5)(CHR')(OHIPT)(Cl)(PPhMe2). So far no Mo=CHCl complexes, which are required intermediates in the test reaction, have been observed in NMR studies at room temperature.

Abstract:The reaction of the 16 e half-sandwich complex Cp*Co(S 2 C 2 B 10 H 10 ) (1) (Cp* = pentamethylcyclopentadienyl) with excess methyl acetylene monocarboxylate, HC≡C-CO 2 Me, affords the 18 e complexes 2–6 . Compound 2 bears a B-CH 2 unit in which B-substitution occurs in the B(3)/B(6) position of the ortho -carborane cage. Complexes 3–6 are geometrical isomers, in which the alkyne is twofold inserted into one of the Co-S bonds in all the four possible ways. Treatment of 1 with excess 3-butyn-2-one or phenyl ethynyl ketone, HC≡C-C(O)R (R = Me, Ph), at ambient temperature leads to the 18 e complexes 7–10 , respectively, with two alkynes inserted into one of the Co-S bonds. All the new complexes were fully characterized by spectroscopic techniques and elemental analysis. The solid-state structures of 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 9 and 10 were further characterized by X-ray structural analysis.

Abstract:Reaction of tricarbonylcyclopentadienyl molybdenum anion with X(CH2)(3)X(X = Br, I) in diglyme gave the cyclic carbene of molybdenum complex-CpMoX(CO)(2) . CO(CH2)(2)CCH2. The similar reaction of sila-bridged biscyclopentadienyltricarbonyl molybdenum anion with 1,3-dihalopropane proceeds smoothly to afford the corresponding sila-bridged bis [cyclic carbene molybdenum] complex, E[C(5)H(4)MoX(CO)(2) . CO(CH2)(2)CH2](2) (E = Me(2)Si, Me(2)SiSiMe(2), Me(2)SiOSiMe(2)). The crystal structure of one (X = I) of the latter complexes was determined by X-ray crystallography. The crystal is triclinic, space group <P(1)over bar> with a = 0.818 8(1) nm, b = 1.045 4(3) nm, c = 2.332 5(4) nm, alpha = 94.14(2)degrees, beta = 94.07(1)degrees, gamma = 102.48(2)degrees, V = 1.930 6 nm(3), Z = 2, D-c = 1.854 g/cm(3).

Abstract:The 16-electron (16e) half-sandwich complex CpCo(S2C2B10H8)(CH=CHCO2Me)(2) (1; Cp = cyclopentadienyl) was considered as inert owing to hindered di-substitution at B sites. However in methanol complex 1 reacts with ethynylferrocene (FcC CH) and dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate (DMAD, MeO2CC CCO2Me) to lead to two-fold alkyne insertion at Co-S bond to give rise to unusual stable 18e adduct CpCo(S2C2B10H8)(CH=CHCO2Me)(2)(HC=CFc)(MeO2CC=CCO2Me) (2) containing mixed alkynes. Also in methanol complex 1 undergoes intramolecular hydrogen transfer of one CH] CHCO2Me unit to adjacent carbon to form a CH2CCO2Me unit, thus producing the 18e complex CpCo(S2C2B10H8)[CH2CCO2Me][CH=CHCO2Me] (3). Further investigation indicates that complex 1 can catalyze [2 + 2 + 2] cycloaddition of alkynes. The catalytic efficiency is determined by temperature and nature of alkynes. In THF in the presence of [N(n-Bu)(4)]Br complex 1 is transformed to ionic complex [N(n-Bu)(4)](+)[Co(S2C2B10H8)(2)(CH=CHCO2Me)(4)](-) (4), in which metal-dithiolene is planar. Analogous [N(n-Bu)(4)](+)[Co(S2C2B10H9)(2)(CH=CHCO2Me)(2)](-) (5) was also synthesized from mono-substituted precursor CpCo(S2C2B10H9)(CH=CHCO2Me) (10). The electrochemical properties of both 4 and 5 show significant positive shift of redox peaks versus the analogous bis(1,2-benzenedithiolato) cobaltate (III) (Co(bdt)(2)(-)). Reactivity of both neutral 16e CpCo complexes and ionic metal-dithiolene derivatives declines with the increase of substituents on carborane cage. All the new compounds have been characterized by NMR, IR, mass spectrometry, elemental analysis, and 2, 3, and 4 have been structurally characterized by X-ray diffraction. (C) 2013 Elsevier B. V. Abstract:Formation of cyclic compounds from zirconacycles has been performed by a combination of Michael addition and coupling with an alkenyl iodide moiety in the presence of a stoichiometric amount of CuCl. The reaction of 3-iodopropenoates with various zirconacyclopentadienes in the presence of a stoichiometric amount of CuCl afforded penta- and hexasubstituted cyclopentadienes. The reaction of 3-iodocycloenones with zirconacyclopentadienes, zirconacyclopentenes, or zirconacyclopentanes gave spirocyclic compounds in good yields.

Abstract:The reaction of the 16-electron half-sandwich complex MeCpCo(S2C2B10H10) (1b; MeCp = methylcyclopentadienyl) and methyl propiolate (HC CCO2Me) at ambient temperature leads to MeCpCo(S2C2B10H9)(CH=CHCO2Me) (2), MeCpCo(S2C2B10H8)(CH=CHCO2Me)(2) (3), MeCpCo-( S2C2B10H9)[MeO2CC=CH(MeO2C)C=CH)](CH=CHCO2Me) (4) and MeCpCo(S2C2B10H9)-(CH2CCO2Me) (5). The reaction of Me4CpCo(S2C2B10H10) (1c; Me4Cp = tetramethylcyclopentadienyl) and the alkyne gives rise to Me4CpCo(S2C2B10H10)[MeO2CC=CH(MeO2C)C=CH] (6) and Me4CpCo (S2C2B10H9)(CH2CCO2Me) (7). Both 2 and 3 are 16-electron complexes but containing a B(3)-substituted o-carborane-1,2-dithiolate ligand in 2 and a B(3,6)-disubstituted o-carborane-1,2-dithiolate ligand in 3, respectively. In 4 and 6, two alkynes are inserted into one Co-S bond to meet an 18 electron configuration at metal, however, 4 has one B-substitution at carborane. Both 5 and 7 have the same structural type bearing a B-CH2 unit. The reactions of (CpCo)-Co-#(E2C2B10H10) [Cp-# = Cp (1a), MeCp (1b), Me4Cp (1c) and Me5Cp (1d); E = S, Se] with 2-methylpropanedithioic acid (L1) or pyrrolidine-1-carbodithioic acid (L2) lead to Co[S2CCH(CH3)(2)](3) (8) or Co[S2CN(CH2)(4)](3) (9), respectively, in an octahedral geometry. The three-component reactions of 1a-1d, methyl propiolate and L1 or L2 afford seven new compounds (CpCo)-Co-#[S2C2B10H10(CH=CHCO2Me)][S2CCH(CH3)(2)] [Cp-# = Cp (10a), MeCp (10b) and Me4Cp (10c)], [S2CCH(CH3)(2)](2)Co(S2C2B10H10)(CH=CCO2Me){CpCo[S2CCH(CH3)(2)]} (11a), (CpCo)-Co-#[S2C2B10H10(CH=CHCO2Me)][S2CN(CH2)(4)] [Cp-# = Cp (12a), MeCp (12b) and Me4Cp (12c)]. All 10a-10c and 12a-12c contain one deprotonated L1 or L2 ligand and one reduced alkyne. 11a has two 18-electron Co centers linked by one reduced alkyne. One metal is coordinated by an o-carborane-1,2-dithiolate and two L1 ligands, and the other is coordinated by one L1 ligand and one eta(5)-Cp unit. In both two-and three-component reactions the reactivity of the 16-electron half-sandwich complexes (CpCo)-Co-#(S2C2B10H10) is dependent on the size of the Cp-# unit. All compounds were fully characterized by spectroscopic techniques and elemental analysis. The solid-state structures of 4, 5, 7, 10a and 11a were further determined by X-ray crystallographic analysis.

Abstract:A series of group 6 transition metal half-sandwich complexes with 1,1-dichalcogenide ligands have been prepared by the reactions of Cp*MCl(4)(Cp* = eta(5)-C(5)Me(5); M = Mo, W) with the potassium salt of 2,2-dicyanoethylene-1,1-dithiolate, (KS)(2)C=C(CN)(2) (K(2)-i-mnt), or the analogous seleno compound, (KSe)(2)C=C(CN)(2) (K(2)-i-mns). The reaction of Cp*MCl(4) with (KS)(2)C=C(CN)(2) in a 1:3 molar ratio in CH(3)CN gave rise to K[Cp*M(S(2)C=C(CN)(2))(2)] (M = Mo, 1a, 74%; M = W, 2a, 46%). Under the same conditions, the reaction of Cp*MoCl(4) with 3 equiv of (KSe)(2)C=C(CN)(2) afforded K[Cp*Mo(Se(2)C=C(CN)(2))(2)] (3a) and K[Cp*Mo(Se(2)C=C(CN)(2))(Se(Se(2))C=C(CN)(2))] (4) in respective yields of 45% and 25%. Cation exchange reactions of 1a, 2a, and 3a with Et(4)NBr resulted in isolation of (Et(4)N)[Cp*Mo(S(2)C=C(CN)(2))(2)] (1b), (Et(4)N)[Cp*W(S(2)C=C(CN)(2))(2)] (2b), and (Et(4)N)[Cp*Mo(Se(2)C=C(CN)(2))(2)] (3b), respectively. Complex 4 crystallized with one THF and one CH(3)CN molecule as a three-dimensional network structure. Inspection of the reaction of Cp*WCl(4) with (KSe)(2)C=C(CN)(2) by ESI-MS revealed the existence of three species in CH(3)CN, [Cp*W(Se(2)C=C(CN)(2))(2)]-, [Cp*W(Se(2)C=C(CN)(2))(Se(Se(2))C=C(CN)(2))]-, and [Cp*W(Se(Se(2))C=C(CN)(2))(2)]-, of which [Cp*W(Se(2)C=C(CN)(2))(Se(Se(2))C=C(CN)(2))]-(5) was isolated as the main product. Treatment of 2a with 1/4 equiv of S(8) in refluxing THF resulted in sulfur insertion and gave rise to K[Cp*W(S(2)C=C(CN)(2))(S(S(2))C=C(CN)(2))](6), which crystallized with two THF molecules forming a three-dimensional network structure. 6 can also be prepared by refluxing 2a with 1/4 equiv of S(8) in THF. 3a readily added one Se atom upon treatment with 1 mol of Se powder in THF to give 4 in high yield, while the treatment of 3a or 4 with 2 equiv of Na(2)Se in THF led to formation of a dinuclear complex [(Cp*Mo)(2)(mu-Se)(mu-Se(Se(3))C=C(CN)(2))] (7). The structure of 7 consists of two Cp*Mo units bridged by a Se(2-) and a [Se(Se(3))C=C(CN)(2)](2-) ligand in which the triselenido group is arranged in a nearly linear way (163 degrees). The reaction of 2a with 2 equiv of CuBr in CH(3)CN yielded a trinuclear complex [Cp*WCu(2)(mu-Br)(mu(3)-S(2)C=C(CN)(2))(2)] (8), which crystallized with one CH(3)CN and generated a one-dimensional chain polymer through bonding of Cu to the N of the cyano groups.

Abstract:The reactions of the 16-electron half-sandwich complex CpCo(S2C2B10H10) (1) (Cp: cyclopentadienyl) with sulfonyl azides (p-toluenesulfonyl azide, TsN3; methanesulfonyl azide, MsN3) in refluxing dichloromethane or at ambient temperature lead to imido-bridged adducts CpCo(S2C2B10H10) (NSO2R) (2a, R = 4-MePh; 2h, R = Me) which can convert to the tetraazadiene cobalt complexes CpCoN4(SO2R)(2) (3a, R = 4-MePh; 3b, R = Me) in the presence of excess azide if heated. The reactions of 1 with acyl azides (methyl azidoformate and benzoyl azide) lead to CpCo(S2C2B10H10)(CONR) (4a, R = OMe; 4b, R = Ph) with a newly-generated five-membered metallacyclic ring Co-S-N-C-O. Complexes 2a and 2b show further reactivity toward alkynes to give rise to the insertion products CpCo(S2C2B10H10)(R1C=CR2) (NSO2R) (R-1 = COOMe, R-2 = H, R = 4-MePh, 5a, R = Me, 5b; R-1 = R-2 = COOMe, R = 4-MePh, 6a, R = Me, 6h; R-1 = COOMe, R-2 = Ph, R = 4-MePh, 8a, R = Me, 8b) formed by alkyne addition to a Co-S bond to generate a Co-C-C-S four-membered ring and CpCo(S2C2B10H10) (R1C=CR2NSO2R) (R-1 = H, R-2 = Ph, R = 4-MePh, 7a, R = Me, 7b; R-1 = COOMe, R-2 = Ph, R = 4-MePh, 9a, R = Me, 9b) formed by alkyne insertion into a Co-N bond to generate a Co-C-C-N-S five-membered ring. In the case of PhC CCO2Me, the products with insertion into both Co-S and Co-N bonds are isolated. Interestingly, if tert-butylacetylene is used, CpCo(S2C2B10H10)(R1R2C=CNSO2R) (R-1 = tBu, R-2 = H, R = 4-MePh, 10a, R = Me, 10b) are generated by insertion of terminal carbon into a Co-N bond to form four-membered ring Co-C-N-S. The insertion pathways of these reactions have been discussed on the basis of DFT calculations. All the new complexes were fully characterized, and X-ray structural analyses were performed for 2a, 3a, 313, 4a, 4b, 5a, 6a, 7a, 7b, 8a, 9a, 9b, and 10b.

In all of the products the metal-induced B-H activation has occurred that leads to a new C-B bond. In the case of L4, CpCo(S2C2B10H9)[HC C(C4H2S)C=CH-CH=C(C4H2S)C CH] (5) is generated as well, in which alkyne is twofold inserted into a Co-S bond. All these products 1 similar to 5 have been characterized by NMR, IR, mass spectrometry and elemental analysis.

Abstract:The reaction of the 16e half-sandwich complex CpCo(S(2)C(2)B(10)H(10)) (1) with HC[triple bond]C-C(O)Ph leads to a 17e complex 2 containing a bicyclo[2.2.1]heptene unit at the B3/B6 site of carborane. In the presence of air, water and silica 2 converts to two 16e complexes, 3 and 4, bearing new types of functionalized groups.
Sulfurization and Selenization of the Halfsandwich Nitrosylmetal Complexes Cp*M(CO)2NO (M = Cr, Mo) and Cp*M(NO)I2 (M = Mo, W)

Abstract:The photo-induced decarbonylation of Cp*Cr(CO)2NO in acetonitrile solution in the presence of excess sulfur leads to the cyclo-pentasulfido complex Cp*Cr(NO)(S5) (1 a), while in the case of limited sulfur supply the binuclear bis(µ-disulfido) complex Cp*2Cr2(NO)2(µ-S2)2 (4a) is formed preferentially. The corresponding reaction with elemental selenium produces Cp*2Cr2(NO)2(µ-Se2)2 (4b), irrespective of the available amount of selenium. Photodecarbonylation of Cp*Mo(CO)2NO gives only the binuclear derivates Cp*2Mo2(NO)2(µ-E2) (E = S (5a), Se (5b)) which are also obtained by treating Cp*Mo(NO)I2 with H2S or H2Se, respectively. Nitrosyl loss predominates if the tungsten complex Cp*W(NO)I2 is reacted with H2S; in an argon atmosphere the products are Cp*W(S)(S2)(I) (7a) and Cp*2W2(S)2(µ-S)2 (8a), while in air some Cp*W(NO)(S5) (3a) and the oxo compounds Cp*W(O)(S2)I (7c), Cp*2W2(O)2(µ-S)2 (8c) and Cp*2W2(S)(O)(µ-S)2 (8d) are formed. The analogous reaction with H2Se leads to Cp*W(NO)(Se5) (3b), Cp*2W2(O)2(µ-Se)2 (9c) and Cp*2W2(Se)(O)(µ-Se)2 (9d), respectively. The binuclear tungsten complexes 8a,c,d and 9c,d contain a central W(µ-E)2W framework (E = S or Se) which is unaffected by air, while terminal sulfido and selenido ligands are quantitatively converted into the corresponding terminal oxo ligands in the presence of air in CH2C12 or THF solution. With the preparation of Cp*2W2(O)2(µ-E)2 (E = S (8c) and Se (9c)), the series of dioxo complexes containing a pair of monochalcogen bridges (E = O, S, Se, Te) has become complete. The new complexes have been characterized by their IR (v(NO)), 1H and 13C NMR (Cp*) spectra as well as by electron-impact mass spectrometry. According to the X-ray structure analyses, the binuclear compounds Cp*2Cr2(NO)2(µ-S2)2 (4a) and Cp*2Mo2(NO)2(µ-Se2)2 (5b) contain two 14-electron [Cp*M(NO)2] fragments which are connected by a pair of dichalcogen (η1,η2-E2) bridging ligands (M = Cr or Mo, E = S or Se). The central M2E2 four-membered ring is not planar, and the binuclear molecules are chiral.

Abstract:Half-sandwich nitrosyl complexes Cp*M(NO)I2 (M = Mo, or W) react with dithiocarbamates (NaS2CNMe2 and NaS2CNEt2) in THF to form of complexes: Cp*Mo(NO)I (S2CNMe2) (1), Cp*Mo(NO)I(S2CNEt2) (2), Cp*W(NO)I(S2CNMe2) (3) and Cp*W(NO)I(S2CNEt2) (4) in high yields. Treatments of Cp*M(NO)I2 (M = Mo, W) or [CpMo(NO)I2]2 with phosphinodithioate (NaS2PMe2) and phosphorodithioate [(NH4)S2P(OMe)2] result in complexes: Cp*Mo(NO)I(S2PMe2) (5a), CpMo(NO)I (S2PMe2) (5b), Cp*Mo(NO)(S2PMe2)2 (6a), CpMo (NO) (S2PMe2)2 (6b) and Cp*Mo(NO)I[S2P(OMe)2] (7), Cp*W(NO)I(S2PMe2) (8), Cp*W(NO) I[S2P(OMe)]2 (9). Treatment of (5a) and (5b) with an excess of NaS2PMe2 gives (6a) and (6b). The complexes have been characterized by their elemental analyses, i.r., 1H, 13C-n.m.r. and by EI-MS spectrometry.

Abstract:The reaction of the 16-electron half-sandwich complex CpCo(S(2)C(2)B(10)H(10)) (1; Cp = cyclopentadienyl) with ethyl diazoacetate (EDA) at ambient temperature leads to compounds CpCo(S(2)C(2)B(10)H(10))(CHCO(2)Et) (2), CpCo(S(2)C(2)B(10)H(8))(CHCO(2)Et)(CH(2)CO(2)Et)[CH(CO(2)Et)(CH(2)CO(2)Et)] (3), CpCo(S(2)C(2)B(10)H(9))(CH(2)CO(2)Et)(CHCO(2)Et)(2) (4), CpCo(S(2)C(2)B(10)H(9))(CHCO(2)Et)(CH(2)CO(2)Et) (5), and CpCo(S(2)C(2)B(10)H(9))(CHCO(2)Et)(2)(CH(2)CO(2)Et) (6). In 2, the EDA molecule has been inserted into one Co-S bond in 1 with the loss of N(2) to form an 18-electron compound containing a three-membered metallacyclic ring. In 3, two B-H bonds of the carborane cage have been activated and the unusual B4-H bond activation leads to the formation of a stable Co-B bond. Two EDA molecules are inserted into the Co-B3 bond to generate an unexpected six-membered heterocyclic ring Co-B-B-C-C-O. In 4, a stable Co-B bond is present as well but in the position B3/B6, and two EDA molecules are inserted into one Co-S bond to produce a five-membered heterocyclic ring Co-C-C-C-O. In 5, one EDA is inserted into the Co-B bond with the formation of a C-B bond in the position B3/B6. One more EDA is inserted into the Co-S bond in 5 to generate 6. Upon heating, 6 loses the BH vertex close to the two carbon atoms to lead to CpCo(S(2)C(2)B(9)H(9))(CHCO(2)Et)(CH(2)CO(2)Et)(2) (7) containing a nido-C(2)B(9) unit. All of the new compounds 2-7 were characterized by NMR spectroscopy ((1)H, (11)B, and (13)C), mass spectrometry, IR spectroscopy, and elemental analysis, and their solid-state structures were further characterized by X-ray structural analysis.

Abstract:The 16-electron half-sandwich complex CpCo(Se2C2B10H10) (1, Cp = cyclopentadienyl) reacts with FcC(O)C CH in CH2Cl2 at ambient temperature to give [{FcC(O)CCH}(Se2C2B10H10)] (3) and [CpCo(Se2C2B10H9){CH2CC(O)Fc}] (4). Complex 3 is generated by the alkyne addition to the 1,2-dicarba-closo-dodecaborane-1,2-diselenolate ligand in 1 with the loss of the CpCo unit. In 4, metal-induced B-H activation occurs in the B(3)/B(6) position of carborane followed by the formation of a C-B bond. In MeOH the reaction leads to an unexpected product, [{FcC(O) CHCH} CpCo(Se2C2B9H9){CH2CC(O)Fc}] (5), which contains two alkynes and a nido-C2B9 cage. In MeOH, 4 can further react with the alkyne to give 5. In the presence of silica, 4 loses the CpCo unit to afford [{FcC(O)CCH2}(Se2C2B10H9)] (6), which is a symmetrical molecule with the B-CH2 unit retained. All of these complexes have been characterized by IR, NMR, elemental analysis, mass spectrum, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis.
