Abstract:Characteristics of hydration process and hardening process and the strength properties of class G oilwell cement pastes with and without sand were studied under different temperatures by XRD, SEM, static gel strength analysis and penetrability test. The chemical reaction formulas to describe the hydration process were determined for the temperature range from 25°C to 200°C. A two-step form of the strength development of the cement slurry with sand was identified in the temperature range of 110-150°C, while a one-step form of strength development in the temperature range of 160-200°C was presented. The results show that the paste strength only increases with the hydration time at the initial stage. The critical temperatures at which the strength begins to decline are found to be 110°C and 150°C respectively, and the reasonable amounts of silica sand added to cement slurry to enhance the strength of hardened pastes are determined to be 30%-40%.
