Abstract:Let F be a totally real number field with degree n = [F: Q] >= 3. Mazur and Urbanowicz proved that ifK2OF similar or equal to (Z/2Z)([F:Q]) (*)and F is not Q(zeta(7) +zeta(-1)(7)) or Q(zeta(9) + zeta(-1)(9)), then F must be one of the 14 cases listed in Mazur and Urbanowicz (1992). In this article, it is proved that 3 of these 14 cases don't satisfy (*), while all the other cases satisfy (*). Hence we find all totally real number fields which satisfy (*).

Abstract:Let F be a quadratic number field. We give a criterion, via Hilbert symbols, for an element of order two in the tame kernel of F to be a fourth power in the tame kernel of F. The result can be applied to compute the 8-rank of the tame kernel of F and the Tate kernel of an imaginary quadratic number field. We list the 8-ranks of K2OF for all quadratic number fields whose discriminants have exactly two odd prime divisors. In the case when F is an imaginary quadratic number field with the 8-rank of K2OF=0, the Tate kernel of F is given too. An application of our method to the maximal real subfield of a cyclotomic field is discussed. Numerical examples, in particular the examples of quadratic number fields F with 4-rank of K2OF= 8-rank of K2OF=2 illustrate our results.

Abstract:Let $F = Q\left( {\sqrt p } \right)$, where p = 8t+1 is a prime. In this paper, we prove that a special case of Qin’s conjecture on the possible structure of the 2-primary part of K 2 O F up to 8-rank is a consequence of a conjecture of Cohen and Lagarias on the existence of governing fields. We also characterize the 16-rank of K 2 O F , which is either 0 or 1, in terms of a certain equation between 2-adic Hilbert symbols being satisfied or not.

Abstract:This paper presents a necessary condition for the ideal class group of an imaginary quadratic function field K = k(~(1/2)D) (k = Fq(x),2+q) to be of exponent ≤ 2. Abstract:Let $G$ be an elementary abelian $p$-group. We calculate $K_2(\mathbb{Z}[G]/I)$ for certain ideals $I \subseteq \mathbb{Z}[G]$ of the finite $p$-power index through computations of Dennis-Stein symbols. As an application, for $p$ an odd prime, we give a complete description of the relative group $SK_1(\mathbb{Z}[G],p^k\mathbb{Z}[G])$ and obtain more precise lower bounds of the prank of $K_2(\mathbb{Z}[G])$ and $Wh_2(G)$.

Abstract:Let $F$ be a real quadratic number field with discriminant $D$ and $\mathcal{O}_F$ the ring of integers in $F$. Let $\chi_F$ be the Dirichlet character associated to $F/\mathbb{Q}$. Write $L(\chi_F,s)$ for the Dirichlet L-function of $\chi_F$. By an induction argument for imprimitive Dirichlet L-values, we get several $2$-divisibility results on $L(\chi_F,-1)$ when $D$ has arbitrarily finitely many prime divisors. As an application, by making use of the Birch-Tate formula for $F$, we determine the $2$-primary part for the second $K$ group $K_2\mathcal{O}_F$. We also give a new proof for an old theorem of Browkin and Schinzel.

Abstract:The theory of continued fractions of functions $ \sqrt D $ is used to give lower bound for class numbers $h(D)$ of general real quadratic function fields $K=k(\sqrt D)$ over $k={\bf F}_q(T)$. For five series of real quadratic function fields $K$, the bounds of $h(D)$ are given more explicitly, e.g., if $ D=F^2+c,$ \mbox{}\hspace{0.1cm} then $ h(D)\geq {deg}F /{deg} P;$ \hspace{0.1cm} if $D=(SG)^2+cS, $ then $ h(D)\geq {deg}S / {deg} P; $ if $D=(A^m+a)^2+A, $ then $ h(D)\geq {deg}A / {deg} P, $ where $P$ is irreducible polynomial splitting in $K, c\in {\bf F}_q$ is any constant. Abstract:We give two constructions of families of elliptic curves over cubic or quartic fields with three, respectively four, `integral' elements in the kernel of the tame symbol on the curves. The fields are in general non-Abelian, and the elements linearly independent. For their integrality, we prove a new criterion that does not ignore any torsion. We also verify Beilinson's conjecture numerically for just over 90 of the curves.

In this article, we determine all possible values of r(4)(K2OF) for each type of imaginary quadratic number field F. In particular, for each type of imaginary quadratic number field we give the maximum possible value of r(4)(K2OF) and show that each integer between the lower and upper bounds occurs as a value of the 4-rank of K2OF for infinitely many imaginary quadratic number fields F.

Abstract:We compute the integral Grothendieck rings of the moduli stacks, $\mathcal{M}_2$, $\overline{\mathcal{M}}_2$ of smooth and stable curves of genus two respectively. We compute $K_0(\mathcal{M}_2)$ by using the presentation of $\mathcal{M}_2$ as a global quotient stack given by Vistoli. To compute the Grothendieck ring $K_0(\overline{\mathcal{M}}_2)$ we decompose $\overline{\mathcal{M}}_2$ as $\Delta_1$ and its complement $\overline{\mathcal{M}}_2 \setminus \Delta_1$ and use their presentations as quotient stacks given by Larson to compute their Grothendieck rings. We show that they are torsion-free and this, together with the Riemann-Roch isomorphism allows to ultimately give a presentation for the integral Grothendieck ring $K_0(\overline{\mathcal{M}}_2)$.
