Abstract:Let $p$ be an odd prime, and $m,r \in \mathbb{Z}^+$ with $m$ coprime to $p$. In this paper we investigate the real quadratic fields $K = \mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{m^2p^{2r} + 1})$. We first show that for $m < C$, where constant $C$ depends on $p$, the fundamental unit $\varepsilon$ of $K$ satisfies the congruence $\varepsilon^{p-1} \equiv 1 \mod{p^2}$, which implies that $K$ is a non $p$-rational field. Varying $r$ then gives an infinite family of non $p$-rational fields. When $m = 1$ and $p$ is a non-Wieferich prime, we use a criterion of Fukuda and Komatsu to show that if $p$ does not divide the class number of $K$, then the Iwasawa invariants for cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension of $K$ vanish. We conjecture that there are infinitely many $r$ such that $p$ does not divide the class number of $K$.

Abstract:Let $E/\mathbb{Q}$ be an elliptic curve and $p$ an odd prime. In 1991 Kolyvagin conjectured that the system of cohomology classes for the $p$-adic Tate module of $E$ derived from Heegner points on $E$ over ring class fields of an imaginary quadratic field $K$ is non-trivial. In this paper we prove Kolyvagin's conjecture in the cases where $p$ is a prime of good ordinary reduction for $E$ that splits in $K$ and a $p$-adic anticyclotomic Iwasawa Main Conjecture for $E/K$ holds. In particular, our results cover many cases where $p$ is an Eisenstein prime, complementing W. Zhang's progress towards the conjecture. Our methods also yield a proof of a refinement of Kolyvagin's conjecture expressing the divisibility index of the $p$-adic Heegner point Kolyvagin system in terms of the Tamagawa numbers of $E$, as conjectured by W. Zhang in 2014, as well as proofs of analogous results for the Kolyvagin systems obtained from the cyclotomic Euler system of Beilinson--Kato elements.

Abstract:For any odd prime p, we present a reflection theorem which for p=3 is the Scholz Reflection Theorem. We obtain some formulas for the p-rank and the pn-rank(K2OF), where F is a number field. With the help of our reflection theorem, we establish relations between the pn-divisibility of the order of K2OF and the pn-divisibility of the class number of some algebraic number fields F.
A number field analogue of Weil's theorem on congruent zeta functions

Abstract:Let $K$ be a function field of one variable over a finite field $\mathbb{F}$. Weil's celebrated theorem states that the congruent zeta function of $K/\mathbb{F}$ is determined by the $\mathrm{Gal}(\overline{\mathbb{F}}/\mathbb{F})$-module structure of $X_{\overline{\mathbb{F}}K}(p)\otimes_{\mathbb{Z}_p}\mathbb{Q}_p$, and vise versa, where $p$ is a prime number different from the characteristic of $K$ and $X_{\overline{\mathbb{F}}K}(p)$ stands for the Galois group of the maximal unramified abelian $p$-extension over $\overline{\mathbb{F}}K$. In the present paper, I will give a number field analogue of the above mentioned theorem by considering the total cyclotomic extension, which we may regard as a number field analogue of $\overline{\mathbb{F}}K/K$.

Abstract:Let $F = Q\left( {\sqrt p } \right)$, where p = 8t+1 is a prime. In this paper, we prove that a special case of Qin’s conjecture on the possible structure of the 2-primary part of K 2 O F up to 8-rank is a consequence of a conjecture of Cohen and Lagarias on the existence of governing fields. We also characterize the 16-rank of K 2 O F , which is either 0 or 1, in terms of a certain equation between 2-adic Hilbert symbols being satisfied or not.

Abstract:Let $G$ be an elementary abelian $p$-group. We calculate $K_2(\mathbb{Z}[G]/I)$ for certain ideals $I \subseteq \mathbb{Z}[G]$ of the finite $p$-power index through computations of Dennis-Stein symbols. As an application, for $p$ an odd prime, we give a complete description of the relative group $SK_1(\mathbb{Z}[G],p^k\mathbb{Z}[G])$ and obtain more precise lower bounds of the prank of $K_2(\mathbb{Z}[G])$ and $Wh_2(G)$.

Iwasawa module of the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_{2}$-extension of certain real quadratic fields

Abstract:For a real quadratic field $K=\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{D})$, let $K_{\infty}$ denote the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_{p}$-extension of $K$. Greenberg conjectured that the corresponding Iwasawa module $X_{\infty}$ is finite. Building on the work of Mouhib and Movahhedi, we provide new examples of real quadratic fields for which the conjecture holds, when $X_{\infty}$ is cyclic and the prime is $p=2$. Furthermore, we find a fundamental system of units for certain biquadratic fields of the form $\mathbb{Q}(\sqrt{2}, \sqrt{D})$ and show how to use it to calculate the order of $X_{\infty}$.

On the anticyclotomic Iwasawa theory of newforms at Eisenstein primes of semistable reduction

Abstract:Let $f$ be a newform of weight $k=2r$ and level $N$ with trivial nebentypus. Let $\mathfrak{p}\nmid 2N$ be a maximal ideal of the ring of integers of the coefficient field of $f$ such that the self-dual twist of the mod-$\mathfrak{p}$ Galois representation of $f$ is reducible with constituents $\phi,\psi$. Denote a decomposition group over the rational prime $p$ below $\mathfrak{p}$ by $G_p$. We remove the condition $\phi|_{G_p} \neq \mathbf{1}, \omega$ from [CGLS22], and generalize their results to newforms of higher weights $2r$ with $r$ being odd. As a consequence, we prove some Iwasawa Main Conjectures and get the $p$-part of the strong BSD Conjecture for elliptic curves of analytic rank $0$ or $1$ over $\mathbf{Q}$ in this setting. In particular, non-trivial $p$-torsion is allowed in the Mordell--Weil group. Using Hida families, we also prove an Iwasawa Main Conjecture for newforms of weight $2$ of multiplicative reduction at Eisenstein primes. In the above situations, we also get $p$-converse to the theorems of Gross--Zagier--Kolyvagin. The $p$-converse theorems have applications to Goldfeld's conjecture in certain quadratic twist families of elliptic curves having a $3$-isogeny.

Abstract:Let $p$ be an odd prime, $ f$ be a $ p $-ordinary newform of weight $ k $ and $ h $ be a normalized cuspidal $ p $-ordinary Hecke eigenform of weight $ l < k$. In this article, we study the $p$-adic $ L $-function and $ p^{\infty} $-Selmer group of the Rankin-Selberg product of $f$ and $h$ under the assumption that $ p $ is an Eisenstein prime for $ h $ i.e. the residual Galois representation of $ h $ at $ p $ is reducible. We show that the $ p $-adic $ L $-function and the characteristic ideal of the $p^\infty$-Selmer group of the Rankin-Selberg product of $f, h$ generate the same ideal modulo $ p $ in the Iwasawa algebra i.e. the Rankin-Selberg Iwasawa main conjecture for $f \otimes h$ holds mod $p$. As an application to our results, we explicitly describe a few examples where the above congruence holds.

An analogue of Kida's formula for elliptic curves with additive reduction

Abstract:We study the Iwasawa theory of $p$-primary Selmer groups of elliptic curves $E$ over a number field $K$. Assume that $E$ has additive reduction at the primes of $K$ above $p$. In this context, we prove that the Iwasawa invariants satisfy an analogue of the Riemann--Hurwitz formula. This generalizes a result of Hachimori and Matsuno. We apply our results to study rank stability questions for elliptic curves in prime cyclic extensions of $\mathbb{Q}$. These extensions are ordered by their absolute discriminant and we prove an asymptotic lower bound for the density of extensions in which the Iwasawa invariants as well as the rank of the elliptic curve is stable.

Abstract:Let $k = \mathbb{Q}(\sqrt {-m})$ and $p > 2$ split in $k$. We prove new properties of the $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extensions $K/k$, distinct from the cyclotomic; we do not assume $K/k$ totally ramified, nor the triviality of the $p$-class group of $k$. These properties are governed by the $p$-valuation, $\delta_p(k)$, of a suitable Fermat quotient of the fundamental $p$-unit $x$ of $k$, which also yields the order of the logarithmic class group (2.2, App. A), and generalize the Gold-Sands criterion (5.1, 5.3, 5.4, 5.5). These results use the second element $(\mathcal{H}_{K_n}/\mathcal{H}_{K_n}^{G_n})^{G_n}$ of the filtration of the $p$-class groups in $K=\cup_n K_n$, without any argument of Iwasawa's theory, and provide new perspectives. We compute, Sec. 7, the first layer $K_1$, using the Log-function, then give a short proof of a result of Kundu-Washington (5.6), and show (7.4, 7.6) that capitulation is possible in $K$, suggesting Conjecture 5.8. Calculations are gathered App. B.

Abstract:Let F be a totally real number field with degree n = [F: Q] >= 3. Mazur and Urbanowicz proved that ifK2OF similar or equal to (Z/2Z)([F:Q]) (*)and F is not Q(zeta(7) +zeta(-1)(7)) or Q(zeta(9) + zeta(-1)(9)), then F must be one of the 14 cases listed in Mazur and Urbanowicz (1992). In this article, it is proved that 3 of these 14 cases don't satisfy (*), while all the other cases satisfy (*). Hence we find all totally real number fields which satisfy (*).
A New $\pm$ Iwasawa Theory and Converse of Gross-Zagier and Kolyvagin Theorem (with an Appendix by Yangyu Fan)

Abstract:Let $p>3$ be a prime. In this paper we develop a new kind of anticyclotomic local $\pm$-Iwasawa theory at $p$ for Hecke characters of quadratic imaginary fields which is valid for all ramification types of $p$ (split, inert and ramified). As an application we deduce the converse of Gross-Zagier-Kolyvagin theorem for these CM forms, which states that Selmer rank one implies analytic rank one. To carry out the Iwasawa theory argument we employ a recent construction of a new type of $p$-adic $L$-function by Andreatta-Iovita, and generalized by Yangyu Fan to Shimura curves in the Appendix, and a ``virtual Heenger family'' made via a limiting procedure from a Heegner family along Coleman-Mazur eigencurve constructed by Jetchev-Loeffler-Zerbes.

Abstract:Let K = Q(root-q), where q is any prime number congruent to 7 modulo 8, and let O be the ring of integers of K. The prime 2 splits in K, say 2O = pp*, and there is a unique Z(2)-extension K-infinity of K which is unramified outside p. Let H be the Hilbert class field of K, and write H-infinity = HK infinity. Let M(H-infinity) be the maximal abelian 2-extension of H-infinity which is unramified outside the primes above p, and put X(H-infinity) = Gal(M(H-infinity)/H-infinity). We prove that X(H-infinity) is always a finitely generated Z(2)-module, by an elliptic analogue of Sinnott's cyclotomic argument. We then use this result to prove for the first time the weak p-adic Leopoldt conjecture for the compositum J(infinity) of K-infinity with arbitrary quadratic extensions J of H. We also prove some new cases of the finite generation of the Mordell-Weil group E(J(infinity)) modulo torsion of certain elliptic curves E with complex multiplication by O.

Abstract:Let F be a cubic cyclic field with exactly one ramified prime p,p>7, or F=Q(d), a real quadratic field with d≢6(mod9). In this paper, we study the 3-primary part of K2OF. If 3 does not divide the class number of F, we get some results about the 9-rank of K2OF. In particular, in the case of a cubic cyclic field F with only one ramified prime p>7, we prove that four conclusions concerning the 3-primary part of K2OF, obtained by J. Browkin by numerical computations for primes p, 7≤p≤5000, are true in general.

In this paper, we study the behavior of the $p$-part of the class number of certain intermediate fields of $K_\infty /k$. Abstract:Let F be a quadratic number field. We give a criterion, via Hilbert symbols, for an element of order two in the tame kernel of F to be a fourth power in the tame kernel of F. The result can be applied to compute the 8-rank of the tame kernel of F and the Tate kernel of an imaginary quadratic number field. We list the 8-ranks of K2OF for all quadratic number fields whose discriminants have exactly two odd prime divisors. In the case when F is an imaginary quadratic number field with the 8-rank of K2OF=0, the Tate kernel of F is given too. An application of our method to the maximal real subfield of a cyclotomic field is discussed. Numerical examples, in particular the examples of quadratic number fields F with 4-rank of K2OF= 8-rank of K2OF=2 illustrate our results.
