Abstract:In three-phase PFC converter,there exist severe switch anti-parallel diode reverse recovery problems.The effective measures of Compound Active-clamping and Minimum Voltage Active-clamping techniques in single phase PFC are extended to three-phase PFC.A family of Active-clamping ZVS soft switching PFC converter is got. They can effectively suppress the diode reverse recovery, and realize ZVS for all the switches. In order to reduce the number of the auxiliary switches, A ZVS space vector modulation (ZVS-SVM)is proposed. It uses only one auxiliary switch and can realize ZVS for all the switches. The switching frequency of the main switch and the auxiliary switch is fixed, thus the input current waveform is good.The theory has been illustrated by the compound active-clamp (CAC) three phase PFC. One DSP controlled 4kW PFC converter prototype with CAC is implemented.

Abstract:In this paper, a separate RCD snubber design is proposed for LLC converter with multiple switches in parallel for secondary side synchronous rectification. The proposed design can reduce the influence of circuit parasitic parameters on the voltage stress of switches, effectively absorb the voltage ringing of multiple switches in parallel at the secondary side, reduce the voltage stress and improve the reliability. The reason why the asymmetric placement of the RCD snubber voltage leads to the intensify of voltage ringing at the secondary side is analyzed. By establishing the circuit model, the expression of voltage ringing when multiple switches are connected in parallel is derived. According to the model derivation results, the influence of asymmetric snubber absorption position on voltage ringing is given, and finally the separate RCD snubber design is given. The circuit model is simple and the derivation process is clear. Finally, an 800V input/25V output/5kW dc/dc prototype is built to verify the proposed RCD snubber design.
Soft-Switching Single Stage Isolated Ac-Dc Converter for Single-Phase High Power Pfc Applications

Abstract:In this paper, a novel single-stage isolated ACDC converter is proposed for single-phase high power PFC applications. The circuit is derived by combining the boost converter and the matrix-based isolated AC-DC converter. Compare to traditional PFC plus DC/DC configuration, this topology has no diode front end and the number of semiconductors in the current path is minimized. Thus the conduction loss is decreased. By adding a small clamping capacitor and two small size commutation inductors, soft-switching for all switches can be realized. Thus the system efficiency can be significantly improved. Furthermore, traditional PWM technology can be applied. Problems of resonant based soft-switching converters including large EMI filter size, high devices voltage and current stress, and low light load efficiency can be avoided. In this paper, the topology derivation and circuit operational analysis are given. The control strategy is introduced and a simulation is carried out to verify the circuit.

Abstract:In this paper, a novel single-stage soft-switching current-fed full-bridge AC/DC converter is proposed. By adding an additional commutation path, soft-switching can be realized for all power devices. The power density is also enhanced by eliminating the DC capacitor. Meanwhile, the conduction loss is also lowered through the use of the additional commutation path. Furthermore, the control strategy for the proposed converter is compatible with that for traditional PFC converter. This facilitates the use of well-developed analog control IC such as UC3854. In this paper, the topology derivation and circuit operational analysis are given. The control strategy is introduced. A simulation is carried out to verify the circuit functionality.

Abstract:A novel unified passive lossless turn-on and turn-off snubber is proposed for a single-ended switch, where energy trapped in the snubber inductor and the capacitor is recovered into the DC rail and the load, without any active devices or resistors. The maximum over-shoot voltage on the switch is fixed, peak switch current is low, circuit reset is fast and the operational range of load current is wide, making this circuit suitable for use in high-frequency, power, single-ended GTO thyristor choppers and asymmetrical half-bridges. The recovery circuit may be operated as a soft-clamp. Design equations, simulations and practical results are given.
A Soft-switching Active-clamp Flyback Converter with Full ZVS-range

Abstract:An active clamp flyback converter, which can achieve ZVS in the whole operation range, is presented. This circuit can recycle transformer leakage energy, minimize switch voltage stress and provide a mechanism for achieving ZVS of both the primary and auxiliary switches. ZVS also limits the turn-off di/dt of the output rectifier, reducing rectifier switching losses, and switching noises due to diode reverse recovery. The behavior of the operation mode of this converter is analyzed and the design considerations for the key components and derices are given. The soft-switching characteristic of the converter is verified by a 100W prototype.

Abstract:Two variations of a new adaptive turn on/off snubber configurations are developed where energy trapped in the snubber is fully recovered, passively, into the DC rail, in addition to the load, without any active devices or resistors. The circuit may be operated in a soft-clamped, or hard-clamped snubber mode. The circuit models are analyzed in detail and their relative circuit performances are compared. Besides individual advantages, the two variations of the snubber posses the common characteristics that maximum over-shoot voltage on the switch is fixed, peak switch current is low and the operational range of load current is wider than conventional snubbers. The application of the two variations of the snubber, for use in high frequency power converters, is discussed and design equations are given, along with simulations and experimental results for an IGBT converter

Abstract:A novel passive lossless snubber circuit for multilevel inverters is proposed in the paper. The topology of it is simple and requires no extra control. In order to reduce the high voltage stress on power switches of multilevel inverters with the proposed snubber circuit, an improved snubber circuit is presented by adding separate low-power DC sources into the original snubber. The operation principles and design considerations are described in detail in the paper. A prototype of three-phase three-level diode clamp inverter with the improved passive lossless snubber is built and tested. The simulation and experimentation indicate that not only can it realize soft switching operation of the three-level inverter with low voltage stress but also the topology is simple.

Abstract:For high power and/or high voltage applications, in order to reduce the voltage of switches and the size of the inductor, and to improve converter efficiency and power density, the single-phase four-level power factor correction converter is presented in the paper, its operation principle and control method are analyzed in detail. A 2 KW four-level PFC converter is established, and the simulation and experimental results verify the analysis of the four-level PFC converter and its control method. The passive lossless snubber cell could be applied to the four-level PFC converter to improve its efficiency.

Abstract:The principle of a passive lossless snubber which is valuable in engineering applications is analyzed. In order to realize the ZCON (Zero-Current On) and ZVOFF (Zero-Voltage Off) of the main MOSFET, the resonant process between the auxiliary inductor and auxiliary capacitors of the snubber is utilized when MOSFET is switching. Then the design problem of the snubber is detailed, and an optimal engineering design method based on diminishing mostly the power loss of the snubber is proposed. A prototype with 400V input, 110V/10A output and 100kHz switching frequency is constructed to verify the design of the snubber, and the experiment waveforms and the efficiency curve are provided as well. Experiment results indicate that the current stress and the voltage stress on the main switch are effectively reduced, the reverse recovery process of the main diode is inhibited, and the efficiency of the Buck converter is improved about 2%. The highest converter efficiency of 95.2% is observed in the experiment.

Abstract:This paper presents a complete passive lossless snubber suitable for high frequency UPS inverters, where bridge leg modules and miscellaneous PWM mode can be adopted. The proposed configuration recovers snubber energy into the DC rail and/or load automatically at main switches turn-on and turn-off via resonance in a simple network without any transformer or coupled inductors, which minimizes the additional parts' number. For a single-phase UPS application, snubber operation analysis, parameter designs are presented along with simulated and experimental confirmation.

Abstract:Multilevel conversion techniques, power factor correction (PFC) techniques and soft switching techniques are the three research hot points of power electronics. The paper proposes a single phase three-level PFC circuit with passive lossless snubbers which embodies these trends. Firstly, the three-level buck and boost topologies are derived from one bridge leg of the traditional diode clamped three-level inverters. Then, a single phase three-level PFC circuit is presented based on the three-level boost topology, and the principle and implementation approaches of the three-level PFC circuit are described. To realize the soft switching of the main switches and freewheeling diodes, two passive lossless snubber cells are added to the circuit. The-operating principle and design considerations of the new circuit are discussed in detail. Finally, a 2 KW prototype of the single phase three-level PFC with the passive lossless snubber is built and tested. The simulated and experimental results indicate that,the proposed circuit can realize the function of three-level PFC, increase system efficiency and have no over-voltage stresses on main power switches. Moreover, the power factor of the proposed circuit with the passive lossless snubber is higher than that of the circuit without the snubber.

Abstract:To provide a hold‐up time function in DC‐DC supplies for cell site stations or data centers, using a boost converter with a bulk output capacitor as a front‐end converter stage is a simple and highly cost‐effective solution. However, conventional boost converters with a hard‐switching operation result in low conversion efficiency and increased electromagnetic interference emissions. In this paper, a boost converter with a new non‐dissipative snubber is proposed that only requires two additional diodes, an inductor, and a multilayer ceramic capacitor. The main feature of the proposed snubber is that the components are not located on the main power processing path. This means they only require low ratings, improving cost‐effectiveness. A prototype converter is analyzed, realized, and applied to a 300 W redundant DC‐DC power supply module for a 5G cell base station. © 2024 The Author(s). Abstract:A simple current-feed single-switch forward resonant converter with secondary diode-clamping is proposed for low power high-density bus converter applications in this paper. The quasi-zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) turn on and quasi-zero-current-switching (ZCS) turn off for switch are both achieved. Due to the quasi-ZCS turn off, the high voltage spike in traditional single forward converter with a reset winding is much reduced. A small diode connecting to the output capacitor is utilized to clamp the voltage stress of the switches. The operating principle of the proposed converter is analyzed and a MHz 66W 24V-to-12V prototype with all Si devices is built up. Experimental results show good soft-switching features, and the prototype converter achieves 95.3% peak efficiency with 270W/in(3) power density.
