Abstract:Three new diagnostic systems have been presented in this article: (1) the pulse molecular beam injection as a modulated particle source and microwave reflectometry for investigation of the particle transport, (2) a new three-step electrostatic probe array for zonal flow studying, and (3) eight-channel laser interferometer with 6m HCN laser for electron density profile measurement with good spatial resolution. The main experimental results have also been shown briefly.

In this paper, we present the instrumentations on the proof-of principle experiment of FEL physics study. The different beam diagnostics monitors for measurement of beam current, beam position and beam profile are briefly described, and the diagnostics data acquisition architecture is present too.

Abstract:In recent months the first beams have been stored in the Storage Ring of the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility (SSRF). The brief introduction will be given of the beam diagnostics system development. The initial commissioning results including beam profile monitors, beam position monitors (BPMs), DC current monitors (DCCT), and synchrotron radiation monitor (SRM) will be reported in this paper. SYSTEM OVERVIEW SSRF is a third generation light source, consisting of a 150MeV linear accelerator (LINAC), a LINAC to booster transfer line (LTB), a full energy booster (BS), a booster to storage ring transfer line (BTS), and a 3.5GeV storage ring (SR) [1]. Table 1 shows the specification of the various diagnostics systems. Abstract:Shanghai Soft-Xray FEL (SXFEL) test facility was designed and built to demonstrate EEHG and HGHG schemes and verify key technologies for the future hard xray FEL facility (SHINE). After three years commissioning 8.8 nm FEL radiation with peak power of 1 MW had been achieved at the end of 2019. The design, fabrication, commissioning and operation of BI system including striplineBPM, Cavity-BPM, screen monitor, bunch length monitor, beam arrival monitor, bunch energy monitor, will be introduced in this paper. Several lessons learned during design stage and beam commissioning stage, such as radiation damage of CCDs and step-motors, bad choice of CBPM working frequency, thermal drift of BAM and so on, will be addressed as well. INTRODUCTION SXFEL Test Facility (SXFEL-TF) was initiated in 2006 and founded in 2014. Its 0.84GeV linac and undulators were installed through 2016 to 2018, it is for testing the cascaded seeding schemes. The main parameters are listed in Table 1. The SXFEL-TF commissioning has completed this year, and the SXFEL user facility (SXFEL-UF) is under construction. The layout of SXFEL-TF and SXFEL-UF are shown in Figure 1. Abstract:This paper described the development of a split photon beam position monitor of HLS (Hefei Light Source). The main performances (e.g. sensitivity, position offset and linearity range) were analyzed. The performances of this device were tested, the results are well matched with the calculated results.

Abstract:Shanghai Soft X-ray Free Electron Laser (SXFEL) is a test facility to study key technologies and new FEL physics. In order to deliver high quality electron beams to the undulator section, a high resolution (better than 10 microns with 200 pC beam) Linac beam position monitor system has been developed. The system consists of stripline pickup and custom designed DBPM processor. The hardware and software architecture will be introduced in this paper. The online performance evaluation results will be presented as well. BACKGROUND SXFEL SXFEL is one of the high-gain FELs constructed in China. Key technologies have been tested through prototype developments. Based on the research and development prototype of hard X-ray FEL. The construction of the user facility in soft XFEL has already finished. The SXFEL facility consists of an electron injector with a thermionic cathode, main accelerate section including C-band high-gradient accelerators along with S-band accelerators, and in-vacuum undulators. Fig. 1 is SXFEL injector layout [1]. SXFEL Figure 1: SXFEL injector layout. is designed to generate a coherent x-ray beam using a selfamplified spontaneous emission (SASE) process. Below is the baseline parameters of SXFEL. In order to meet the harsh demands, the beam diagnostic system achieving high precision resolution is one of the most important technical issues. Demands for the precise measurement of the resolution of the SXFEL LINAC system. LINAC BPM System As the key beam diagnostics tool, BPM systems are widely equipped in all kinds of accelerators. There are six SBPMs conducted in SXFEL injector section and nearly thirty SBPMs conducted in LINAC section in injector section used for the measurement and adjustment of beam orbit. Moreover, the sum of four SBPM electrodes signal can also apply in relative beam charge measurement. Fig. 2 is the block diagram of SBPM system. RF cable extract beam signal from SBPM pickup, RF signal conditioning circuit to digital BPM processor. Figure 2: BPM system block diagram Stripline BPM Since the size of the beam pipe is different, there are two kinds of SBPM with different K values in SXFEL. One of the beam pipe diameter is 16 mm while the K value is 5.24, the other is 25 mm while the K value is 7.59. The installation of the SBPM in SXFEL is different from the BPM installed in SSRF, we adopt horizontal and vertical installation mode. In that way, horizontal and vertical beam position measurement is mutual independence.Fig. 3(a) is the picture of stripline BPM. Figure 3: Stripline BPM and DBPM processors in SXFEL. DBPM processor The DBPM processors are custom designed to measure the beam positions, every beam position monitors is connected to a digital BPM processor. The centre frequency of the DBPM processor is 500 MHz, and the bandwidth is 20 MHz. The processor is carried a 16 bit high-resolution ratio ADC and advanced FPGA chip. The arithmetic of beam position is using Hilbert transform to exact the amplitude, using Δ − Σ arithmetic calculate the beam position. Abstract:This paper described the design of a split photon beam position monitor in HLS (Hefei Light Source). The two methods of position processing are given and compared. The monitor was tested and calibrated, the results are well watched with the computed results. The photon beam position monitor has been used in a slow local orbit feedback system. The result of the slow local orbit feedback was given.

Abstract:HLS (Hefei light source) is a dedicated synchrotron radiation research facility, spectrally strongest in VUV and soft X-ray, designed and constructed in 1980's, accepted to regular service in 1991. From 1999 to 2004, the National Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory carried out Phase II Project, in which quite a few sub-systems in HLS were upgraded and 8 new beamlines were constructed. After Phase II Project, the operation reliability and performance of HLS is improved considerably, for example, the operation beam current is above 250 mA, beam lifetime is longer than 8 hours, orbit stability met the requirement of users, and fault time of machine operation is much less than before. The capability of HLS to serve synchrotron radiation users is enhanced significantly. The main tasks of machine study in HLS are introduced briefly.

Abstract:A beam loss monitoring system has been established at HLS. This paper gives its principle and scientific grounds. Study on the ring's TBA structure and utilization of Monte-Carlo calculation to the shower electrons is important in its design. The system composition and performance are also introduced. The detector BLMs, data acquisition devices and host PC are linked via CAN bus. This system is helpful to analyze beam loss distribution and regulate the machine operation parameters.

Abstract:In order to improve injection efficiency of HLS 200Mev LINAC, we redesign a new strip line beam position monitor system, which is consisted of a strip line structure and a signal processing system. We decide on an online calibration method based on beam to find out the geometry centre displacement and relative gain offset. Before the BPM testing bench has been prepared, we make a simulation based on the model accounted for all factors influencing signal amplitudes and get the calibrating results. At last, we analyze the nonlinearity effect on the calibration results.

Abstract:Real time diagnostics is a fundamental tool for accelerator physics, particularly important to improve performances of synchrotron radiation sources, colliders and a challenging key issue for 4 generation sources and FEL's. Here we report the first measurements in the time and frequency domains of longitudinal bunch lengths performed at the Hefei Light Source, the dedicated synchrotron radiation facility of the National Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory (NSRL). A fast uncooled HgCdTe photodiode optimized in the mid-IR range has been used to record at the IR port the length of individual bunches. These detectors are compact and low cost devices suitable to characterize the bunch length for a bunch-by-bunch longitudinal diagnostics and useful to investigate longitudinal oscillations. The IR signal has been also used to measure the synchrotron oscillation frequency, its harmonics in the multi-bunch mode and bunch lengths in the multi-bunch mode vs. the beam current. For the first time, simultaneously to IR acquisition, data have been collected at NIR/IR wavelengths using a fast photodiode at the diagnostic beamline of the HLS. A comparison between the data sets will be presented and discussed.

Abstract:The HLS(Hefei light source) bunch-by-bunch measurement system and transverse feedback system were developed to provide transverse betatron oscillation detection,bunch current detection,longitudinal phase detection and transverse feedback,and some other functions were also developed as designated bunch exciting and knock-out.Most of the key points during the implementation of the system were discussed,such as vector computing,notch filter developing and data processing.Some experimental results were given,such as reliability test,phase space reconstruction,mode analysis,and feedback primary commission results with beam.

Abstract:The beam-based alignment system is given in HIS (Hefei Light Source), in which a switchable shunt resistor was installed on quadrupole to bypass a small percentage of the magnet current. The system can measure BPM-to-quadrupole offset which can be used to position the beam in the magnetic center of quadrupoles. In measurement, some methods ( linear fitting with single corrector, parabola fitting with single corrector, linear fitting with local bump, and parabola fitting with local bump ) are used. These measurement results are given, and compared among the methods mentioned above.

The design of injection system will greatly affect the quality of beam. This article first gives a physical design of the injecting system. Then under different injection system’s errors, tracking studies are done to simulate the responses of storage beam and injecting beam.

Abstract:The design and the control scheme of beamline control system for Hefei Advanced Light Facility (HALF;Hefei, People's Republic of China) which is under construction is described in this paper.It mainly includes, equipment protection safety, personal protection safety,fast signal interlock and status monitoring and fault diagnosis system. In this control system ,the human presence perception function has been added to the personal protection safety system. Multi-parameter status monitoring of key equipment on beamline station can automatically alarm equipment failures and send relevant personnel timely notifications. At the same time, it can also provide early warning on the health status of key equipment on the beamline. The system not only improves the safety and reliability of beamline control, but also increases the degree of automation and intelligence, reduces the workload of operation and maintenance personnel, and improves operation and maintenance efficiency.

Abstract:These lectures aim to describe instruments and methods used for measuring beam parameters in particle accelerators. Emphasis will be given to new detection and analysis techniques in each field of accelerator instrumentation. A clear distinction is made between 'instrumentation', the design and construction of the instruments themselves, and 'diagnostics', the use of the data from these instruments for running and improving the performance of the accelerator.

Abstract:Based on the beam loading theory in storage ring, traditional mode with large detuned angle and tuned mode of RF system in the injection process of Hefei light source (HLS) were calculated and disadvantages of these two modes were analyzed. Then a more flexible adjustment mode was put forward. In the injection process of HLS, beam would be injected and accumulated higher than design value 300 mA with appropriated parameters of new RF system.

Abstract:This paper introduces the turn-by-turn system of Hefei Light Source (HLS), and presents the analysis of the experiment results, as well as its application in commission of upgraded injection system of HLS. The signal processor of the system adopts a log-ratio electronics circuit. Up to 2s data acquisition is available. Injection kickers are used to excite beam for monitoring damping rate and β oscillation.

Abstract:The paper introduces the measurement and research of some beam parameters using tune measurement system for Hefei Light Source (HLS),which include the betatron tune,beta function,natural chromaticity,corrected chromaticity,and central frequency.Additionally,it also describes the measurement of the influence of DC clearing electrodes on the betatron tune shift and gives,some measurement results.The measurement results are compared with the theoretical values and they are in good agreement.
