Abstract:The investigation on oscillographic chronopotentiometry after 2000 is reviewed. The development course of oscillographic chronopotentiometry is looked back. Some new instrumentations and new methods about oscillographic chronopotentiometry as well as applications of chemometrics in oscilloanalysis are introduced. The prospects of oscillographic chronopotentiometry development are also discussed in this paper.

Abstract:ABSTRACT By applying a convolution technique to the processing of oscillographic chronopotentiometric signals, a new electroanalytical method, multi-order semidifferential oscillographic chronopotentiometry, is presented, and a correlative instrument has been designed. The instrument can generate alternating current with sine, triangle, and square waveforms from an internal signal source, and also can be inputted other kinds of alternating current from an outside signal source. It has the capability of potential drop compensation and electrode (normal or micro working electrode) cleanup. By using the instrument, not only dE/dt-t, Y2-t, Y3-t, Y0.5-t, Y1.5-t, Y2.5-t, and Y3.5-t signals, but also the oscillographic signals synthesized by the aforementioned signals with E-t signal can be obtained.

Abstract:A novel method of real-time-range measurement, characterized by pre-sampling forecast and balanced-range switching, is introduced in this study. According to this method, raw current signals in biosensing procedures may be measured and recorded with real-time-optimized instrumental settings. A low-cost and high-performance potentiostat is developed to validate the proposed method. The transient process of real-time-range measurement is investigated to optimize sampling interval and circuit parameters. Typical time consumption of a sampling cycle is less than 100μs, which makes high-speed and real-time-range measurement possible. The proposed method also brings excellent current resolution that is better than 0.8pA. It improves weak signals in stripping determinations, and is particularly suitable for biological samples. As-fabricated potentiostat, coupled to a nano-Au-modified microband electrode array, is adopted in high-speed stripping determinations towards human blood lead levels (HBLLs). Accuracy and precision of this method are validated with certified reference material (CRM). Obtained values (4.31 ± 0.18μgL−1) meet with certified levels of CRM (4.24 ± 0.11μgL−1). Coefficient of variation percent (CV %) is no more than 5.0% for intra- or inter-assay analyses. Finally, this method is utilized for human population based study. Two groups of data, from this method and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), are analyzed using a statistic tool of t-test, and no statistically significant difference is found.

Abstract:A new electrochemical technique ''Reciprocal Oscillo-Chronopotentiometry'' is presented in this paper. (dE/dt)-1-E oscillogram can be easily obtained by using an IBM PC/XT microcomputer after carring out the reciprocal operation for those experimental data collected directly from dE/dt-E oscillogram. Incision on dE/dt-E curve was converted into sharp peak on (dE/dt)-l-E oscillogram and the close charging curve became a very even base line. Obviously, recipaocal oscillo-chronopotentiometry has both the sharp of cyclic voltammogram and the characters of dE/dt-E curve itself. It is much better than classical a. c. oscillo-chronopotentiometry. There is a good linear relation between peak height and concentration of depolarizer, alw the capacity current can be easily taken off automatically. This method is very useful in actual analytical measurement as well as theoretical studies on electrode processes.

Abstract:A new method of oscillographic chronopotentiometry at silver disk electrode for the determination was initially investigated and established. By using it, we determined a series of ions. The detection limits were decreased two or three orders of magnitude of that for the oscillographic chronopotentiometry at mercury electrode. This method was characterized by fine sensitivity, stable oscillogram and was not used for mercury. The research on mechanism of this method showed that these achievements were caused by the characteristics of silver electrooxidation and electroreduction and the A. C. oscillographic chronopotentiometry (ACOC).

Abstract:A small oscillogram and a new method of oscillographic determination based on it were presented. In oscillographic chronopotentiometry to employ Hg working electrode, oscillographic chronopotentiogram formed after classical oscillogram was incised by end depolarizer was called a small oscillogram. Three types of the small oscillogram could be obtained when different end depolarizer was applied to the incision of the classical oscillogram. The theory formula of the small oscillogram was deduced and the adjustment method of the small oscillogram was discussed. Then the oscillogram was applied to the determination of several medicines. Experimental results showed that the oscillographic determination with the small oscillogram could be used to not only the determination of substance whose incision produced near the end of classical oscillogram, but also the convenient, stable, sensitive and selective determination of many substances in a broad potential window. Thus, oscillographic analysis with the small oscillogram can be an important supplement and development for oscillographic analysis with the classical oscillogram.

Abstract:Cyclic voltammetry (CV) has been combined with surface plasmon resonance (SPR) for probing electrochemical deposition and redox-initiated film reorganization and conformational changes. However, the varying potential during CV scans leads to unwanted SPR background changes and complicates interpretation of SPR signals. In this work, we show that, when SPR is coupled with CV, the background correction for underpotential deposition of copper and electropolymerization of aniline is either inaccurate or difficult to perform. For accurate thickness measurements of electrodeposited films, potential-step (PS) chronoamperometry is a method of choice to combine with SPR. The theory that interprets double-layer charging is used to explain the advantage of PS chronoamperometry over CV in quantifying the thickness of electrodeposited thin films. The influence of the double-layer charging on the potential-induced SPR signal change was analyzed, and the results were used to optimize experimental parameters for PS-SPR. Overall, PS-SPR is easier to operate, simpler in data interpretation, and more accurate for the film thickness measurement.

Abstract:In this work, a new capacitively coupled contactless conductivity detection (C4D) sensor for microfluidic devices is developed. By introducing an LC circuit, the working frequency of the new C4D sensor can be lowered by the adjustments of the inductor and the capacitance of the LC circuit. The limits of detection (LODs) of the new C4D sensor for conductivity/ion concentration measurement can be improved. Conductivity measurement experiments with KCl solutions were carried out in microfluidic devices (500 µm × 50 µm). The experimental results indicate that the developed C4D sensor can realize the conductivity measurement with low working frequency (less than 50 kHz). The LOD of the C4D sensor for conductivity measurement is estimated to be 2.2 µS/cm. Furthermore, to show the effectiveness of the new C4D sensor for the concentration measurement of other ions (solutions), SO42− and Li+ ion concentration measurement experiments were also carried out at a working frequency of 29.70 kHz. The experimental results show that at low concentrations, the input-output characteristics of the C4D sensor for SO42− and Li+ ion concentration measurement show good linearity with the LODs estimated to be 8.2 µM and 19.0 µM, respectively.
A Programmable Low Power Current Source for Bioimpedance Measurement: Towards a Wearable Personalized Health Assistant.

Abstract:Bioimpedance is a noninvasive measurement method that facilitates body composition analysis, besides being indicative of many other health parameters. In this work a novel programmable, low complexity, high output impedance, high voltage compliance and wideband current source for bioimpedance applications is presented. Previously, we designed, fabricated and tested in vivo a bio-patch for acquisition of multiple bio-signals [1]. Upon integration with our previous work, this circuit is envisioned to constitute part of a personalized health assistant. Simulation at worst case corners and real operation conditions was carried out using UMC-180 nm 1 poly 6 metal CMOS process. Full duty cycle, shortened or stepped square waves can be generated. Amplitude control of 8 different current levels is supported. Frequency can be tuned up to 1 MHz and an output impedance of 2.8 MO @ 250 KHz is achieved at full current capacity. Total current consumption is comparable to the injected current, making the circuit highly efficient.

Abstract:A new electroanalytical method for studying the electrode reactions, called cyclic reciprocal derivative chronopotentiometry, is proposed. The applied current is successively reversed at each transition, and the reciprocal of the time derivative of the electrode potential, dt/dE, is recorded vs. E. A circuit for providing the reciprocal signal and the carrying out the automatic current reversals is developed. The equations describing the first cycle of the dt/dE-E chronopotentiogram for a reversible reaction have been deduced and experimentally verified.

Abstract:A conventional E-t curve for a.c. cyclic oscillochronopotentiometry can be parameterized approximately by three groups of quantities reflecting the inflection potentials, the phase angles of the inflections and the steepness of the oscillogram. Expressions are given in terms of these three parameters for the amplitudes of all the Fourier components of an E-t curve. Verification of the theoretical prediction is carried out with reference to experimental results. Application of the harmonic potentials to practical analysis is explored.

Four parts are involved: (1) Theory of the classic oscillochronopotentiometry and its modification; (2) Further development of the oscillochronopotentiometric methods using incisions; (3) Advancement of the novel oscillochronopotentiometric techniques using peaks and (4) Oscillographic frequancy-spectrum analysis. Abstract:High ac voltage measurement with known methods requires source loading and problem of potential high current flowing through the measuring circuit or device. This paper describes a novel method to measure medium to high ac signal, its voltage and frequency. The sensor developed is capable to measure high ac voltage signals continuously independent of the temperature effect. It is capable to measure voltage and frequency without loading the source i.e. the source input voltage applied need not be sinked through any resistance or other circuit for its operation. Hence it is a single ended measurement technique and high voltage signal can be measured by probing any potential voltage point.

Abstract:This study demonstrated the application of a tungsten oxide electrode to the measurement of ultralow liquid flow velocity based on streaming potential, using a pH glass electrode and temperature sensor to compensate for changes in open circuit potential induced by pH and temperature, respectively. A change in flow velocity on the surface of the tungsten oxide electrode caused the expected shift in its open circuit potential. Experimental results showed that the open circuit potential was linear relative to the logarithmic flow velocity, and the flow sensor exhibited excellent reproducibility and a large dynamic range, with the ratio between measurable maximum and minimum flow velocity surpassing 60:1. Moreover, a higher sensitivity was observed in the alkaline solution relative to the acidic solution, indicating that the alkaline solution is more suitable for this type of measurement. In conclusion, the tungsten oxide flow sensor provides a cheap, simple, adaptable, and energy-saving solution for the measurement of ultralow liquid flow velocity. (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V. Abstract:In this paper, by means of slow sweep oscillographic chronopotentiometry, lead and zinc were determined. The method has many advantages. It's apparatus is simple, operating is fast, the selectivity and sensitivity is high. The proposed method has been applied directly to determine lead and zinc in aluminium alloy, the average recovery and RSD were 99 18%, 99 00% and 1 1%, 1 6%, respectively.

Abstract:In this study, a novel solid-state pH sensor based on an untreated platinum sheet was investigated. Chronopotentiometry using positive and negative currents was applied to effect the interconversion of Pt and PtO. To eliminate the influence of concentration polarization, a galvanostatic double-pulse method was applied for pH measurement. The consecutively applied currents were +100, +3, -100, and -3 mu,A for excitation times of 0.5, 1, 0.5, and 1 s, respectively. Stable potentials under the small currents were obtained which could be used to determine pH. The platinum sheet electrode exhibited near-Nernstian behavior in the pH range 2-12, with fitted lines having slopes of -44.2 and -51.1 mV/pH unit under the positive and negative currents, respectively. Overall, excellent linearity and reproducibility could be achieved. Moreover, the temperature responses for the method in pH 4, 6.86, and 9.18 buffer solutions obeyed the Nernst equation, and further supported the proposed mechanism for pH determination. In conclusion, this new detection method provides a solid-state, long-lived, and adaptable solution for pH measurement. (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Abstract:Theoretical expressions and mathematical analysis in cyclic reciprocal derivative chronopotentiometry (CRDCP) are presented for totally irreversible electrode processes corresponding to the application of symmetrical and unsymmetrical programmed currents. For two successive unsymmetrical programmed currents, the effect of the currents ratio b (b=|I2(t)/I1(t)|) on the (dt/dE)–E curves is discussed. The electrochemical behavior of totally irreversible electrode processes has been studied corresponding to the application of the unique unsymmetrical programmed Φm(I0) proposed recently. CRDCP characteristic parameters obtained for totally irreversible electrode processes are different from those of reversible electrode processes. Therefore, a comparison of CRDCP between both mechanisms is presented. Based on the mathematical derivation, alternative methods for kinetic measuring are described. It is prospected that CRDCP is convenient and applicable for studying the reversibility of the electrode processes in form of CRDCP characteristic parameters.
