Abstract:Nanometer ultrafine particle were prepared by coprecipitation method and the particle size and particle size distribution of the resultant were observed by using submicron particle size distribution analyzer. The relations between aged time and particle size distribution in water, dispersing agent gelatin/water, dispersing agent SDBS/water, 0.1% polyglycol/C2H5OH, 0.1% gelatin/water and 0.05M SDBS were presented.

Abstract:The effects of applied magnetic field on the system composed of polymer brushes and magnetic particles are studied by means of Monte Carlo simulation. The direction of the applied magnetic field is chosen to be perpendicular to the substrate plane. Polymer brushes and magnetic particles are attracted to each other. The average heights of polymer brushes depend not only on the strength of applied magnetic field (H) but also on the brush grafting density (e) and the chain length (N). The applied magnetic field influences the arrangement of magnetic particles, and in turn, the arrangement of magnetic particles affects the spatial distribution of polymer brush monomers. When the strength of the magnetic field is increased, the average height of polymer brushes will be increased accordingly. The reason is that the orientations of the magnetic moments of particles must be along the mag-netic field direction, and this leads polymer brushes to rearrange along the magnetic field direction. At the same time, the chain length and the grafting density of polymer brushes have also effects on the properties of the magnetic particles, such as the magnetic particles distribution, magnetic susceptibility, and pair correlation functions. Comparisons with the experimental ones are also made, and this investigation can provide some insights into statistical properties of magnetic particle-loaded brushes induced by external magnetic field. Abstract:Polyaniline(PAn) was prepared by chemical oxidation in the system of microemulsion consisting of aniline,emulsifier,assistant emulsifier and water under the presence of constant magnetic field of different intensity.The effects of magnetic field on the polymerization rate,relative molecular mass and conductivity of PAn were studied.The structure of PAn was characterized by infrared spectrum.The results show that the polymerization rate,relative molecular mass and conductivity of PAn are enhanced in the presence of magnetic filed,and no effect of magnetic field on the basic structural units of PAn is observed;within the range of the magnetic induction intensity studied,the magnetic field of 0.4 T exerts a great influence on polymerization of aniline.The time of the polymerization decreases from 4 h to 1 h,the inherent viscosity increases from 53.4 mL/g to 72.6 mL/g and the conductivity of PAn increases by about one time at 0.4 T compared with that of PAn at 0 T.

Abstract:The conductive polyaniline (PANI) was synthesized by microemulsion polymerization in the presence of magnetic field. The effects of the magnetic field and preparation conditions such as the oxidant concentration and the polymerization time on the electrochemical properties of PANI were discussed by cyclic voltammetry (CV) using the carbon paper loaded with PANT as working electrode, and the reliability of CV characterization result was proved by the analysis of the FTIR spectra (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and four-probe conductivity measurements. The experimental results showed that compared with the PANI synthesized in the absence of a magnetic field, the PANI synthesized in the presence of magnetic field exhibited significant improvement in the crystalline degree and the conductivity properties. FTIR results indicated that the interaction force between molecules reduced, the delocalization of molecular chain increased,and the main characteristic peaks of the PANI prepared in the presence of magnetic field had the trend of moving to low-frequency due to the orientation effect of magnetic field, but the influence of magnetization on the basic structural units of PANT was not observed. The results indicate that electrochemical behavior of the PANI synthesized by microemulsion polymerization can be real-time characterized efficiently by using the carbon paper loaded with PANT as working electrode.

Abstract:The a or b-axis textured Si3N4 ceramics were prepared by a gel-casting method in the magnetic field of 6 T and subsequently pressureless sintering. The effect of the initial time of polymerization on texture formation of Si3N4 ceramics was analyzed. And the effect of sintering temperature on the degree of texture and linear shrinkage anisotropy in samples was studied. The results show that the lotgering orientation factor of textured Si3N4 ceramics increases from 0.47 in 6 min to 0.72 in 15 min when the initial time of polymerization increases. With the further increasing of this time, the degree of texture in sample does not increase. The increasing of sintering temperature promotes the increasing of texture in samples, and consequently shrinkage anisotropy phenomenon of the sample is gradually obvious. During the process of preparing textured ceramics together with the gel-casting method in a strong magnetic field, it is necessary for obtaining the high degree of texture to choose the suitable initial time of polymerization.

Abstract:Electrochemical polymerization of monosodium salt (1b) of 6-N, N-dioctylamino-1,3,5triazine-2,4-dithiol on stainless steels was investigated in zero (OT), perpendicular (5T perpendicular to), and parallel (5T parallel to) magnetic fields which are arranged perpendicular and parallel to the direction of electrolytic current. 5T perpendicular to magnetic field enhances the formation rate of poly (6-N, N-dioctylamino-1,3,5-triazine-2,4-disulfide) 2 films but suppresses the crystallinity of 2. Abstract:This paper reviews our recent work on the use of magnetic fields to the polymer processing. Polymers considered in this paper are not peculiar ones synthesized specially for the purpose of magnetic processing, but they are very usual ones including poly(ethylene terephthalate), polypropylene, etc. In this paper, two main magnetic effects on polymers are considered, i.e., alignment and levitation. In the first part, the magnetic torque causing the alignment is described. Then, examples of alignment in polymeric systems are presented, starting from simple cases such as magnetic alignment of fibers in a suspension to more complicated cases such as magnetic alignment of crystalline polymers in which mesophase formations and memory effects are involved. In the second part, the magnetic force acting on diamagnetic materials and its application to separation and processing of polymeric materials is described.

Abstract:The effect of magnetic field (MF) on the polymerization of methyl methacrylate and styrene initiated with benzoyl peroxide in supercritical (SC)CO2 was studied. The polymerization yields and the molecular weight of poly(methyl methacrylate) increased when a MF was employed. However, the MF did not noticeably affect the polymerization in cyclohexane. This unusual phenomenon may result from the special swelling power of SC CO2 for the polymers and the larger diffusivity of SC CO2 than the liquid solvent.

Abstract:Flaky Fe-Si-Al magnetic fine powders were synthesized by annealing as well as mechanical ball-milling with the gas-atomized Fe-Si-Al(Fe5.5Si9.5Al) alloy powder as raw material.The effects of annealing on the microwave electromagnetic properties of the Fe-Si-Al magnetic powders were investigated.The results show that: Fe-Si-Al magnetic powders with superior magnetic properties and regular flake shape can be obtained by mechanically ball-milling the raw material.Mechanical ball-milling significantly increases the permeability of Fe-Si-Al powder in the low frequency microwave band,while annealing further adjusts the permeability of the powder.Moreover,the permeability of Fe-Si-Al powder can be further enhanced by annealing the raw material.The real part(μ′) and imaginary part(μ″) of the permeability of the prepared flaky Fe-Si-Al magnetic powders reach 5.09 and 3.65,respectively.

Abstract:The effects of the magnetic field (MF) (0.4 T), the mass ratio of n-butanol (nBA) to composite emulsifier (Km=mnBA/mSDBS/TX-100) and sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (SDBS) to Triton X-100 (TX-100) (Sm=mSDBS/mTX-100) on the phase behavior and conductivity of the microemulsion system during composite emulsifier/aniline polymerization were investigated by the pseudo-ternary phase diagram of SDBS/TX-100/nBA/An/HCl, which was prepared by using SDBS and TX-100 as composite emulsifier under acidic conditions for the first time. The results showed that with the increase of Km, the area of microemulsion region increased initially and then decreased, the area reached the maximum on condition that Km is equal to 1.0; with the decrease of the Sm, the area increased gradually; the area was increased by the MF, and with the decrease of the Sm, the effect of MF on the microemulsion system was weakened. The characterization result of cyclic voltammogram (CV) showed that the CV property of the polyaniline prepared by microemulsion polymerization in the presence of composite emulsifier was better than that prepared in the presence of single emulsifier (SDBS or TX-100).

Abstract:Polyaniline was obtained by chemical oxidation in the microemulsion system consisting of aniline, emulsifier, assistant emulsifier and water in magnetic field (0 T, 0.2 T, 0.4 T, 0.6 T). The effect of magnetic field on the polymerization rate and the inherent viscosity of polyaniline were studied. The molecular structure of polyaniline was characterized by IR spectra and the thermal degradation behavior was assessed using TG techniques. The results show that the polymerization rate, molecular weight, thermal stability and conductivity of the synthesized polyaniline enhanced and no effect on the basic structural units of polyaniline was observed in magnetic field. Within the range of the intensity of magnetic field studied, the magnetic field of 0.4 T exerts the largest influence on polymerization of aniline.

Abstract:Polyaniline (PAn) doped with dodecylbenzenesulfonic acid (DBSA) was synthesized by emulsion polymerization using ammonium persulfate (APS) as an initiator in the presence of a constant magnetic field (0.6 T). The effects of magnetic field, the concentrations of APS, DBSA and the reaction temperature on the film formation of PAn doped with DBSA were discussed by the quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) technique. The experimental result showed that via the plot of the PAn film growth rate versus the magnetic field intensity the growth rate increased with the increasing magnetic intensity. The kinetic orders were obtained by the relationship between the concentrations of the reactants and the film growth rate. The activation energy calculated from the temperature dependence of the growth rate was 41.08 kJ/mol. The UV-visible spectra of the PAn polymerization were measured and compared to the polymerization process of the PAn using the QCM technique. The result Showed that the absorption intensity of the PAn polymerized in the presence of a magnetic field was greater than that of the PAn polymerized in the absence of a magnetic field at the same time.

Abstract:Polyaniline (PANI) doped with dodecylbenzenesulfonic acid (DBSA) was synthesized by emulsion polymerization using FeCl 3 /ammonium persulfate (APS) as composite oxidant. The effects of different magnetic field (MF) intensities, the molar ratios of FeCl 3 /APS, and the concentrations of DBSA on the film growth rate of PANI were analyzed by using a quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) technique. The film growth rate of PANI increased with increasing MF intensity and the concentration of DBSA. However, the film growth rate of PANI decreased with increasing molar ratio of FeCl 3 /APS. The polymerization conditions were optimized tentatively by cyclic voltammetry (CV) testing. The peak currents and conductivity were the largest for PANI prepared under the following conditions: MF intensity 0.4 T, molar ratio of FeCl 3 /APS 2:1, and concentration of DBSA 0.05 mol/L. The UV–Vis spectra of the PANI polymerization showed that the absorption intensity of PANI polymerized in the presence of MF was greater than that of PANI polymerized in the absence of MF, at the same reaction time.

Abstract:In this study, amino group-modified magnetic polymer microspheres were synthesized in a well-shaped spherical form with a size range of 0.6 mu m to 0.8 mu m by mini-emulsion polymerization. The morphology, composition, and thermal properties of the magnetic polymer microspheres were characterized by infrared (IR) spectra, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) photographs, particle size analysis, and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) spectra. The results demonstrate that acrylic acid used for stabilizing the reaction system greatly affects the particle size, magnetite contents, and thermal stability of magnetic polymer microspheres.

Abstract:Magnetic phenomenon is one of the most fundamental phenomena of substances. All substances possess strong or weak magnetic property, and have different responds to external magnetic field. Development of high performance materials by using external magnetic field is an important research field of material science. In this study, a static magnetic field is applied during thermoforming processing of low density polyethylene (LDPE)/carbon nanotube (CNT), LDPE/nanographite composites. The effect of magnetic field treatment on dielectric property of these composites is investigated. Experimental results indicate that CNT and nanographite orientate in melted LDPE under the magnetic field. The electrical conductance, the dielectric constant and the dielectric loss angular tangent value of LDPE/CNT and LDPE/ nanographite composites along the magnetic field direction all increase.

Abstract:The aim of this research was to obtain new polymer composites with a silicone rubber matrix, having favorable mechanical and functional properties. They contained admixtures in the amount of 10% by weight of expanded graphite (EG) or birch bark (BB). Additionally, some composites contained magnetic particles in the form of carbonyl iron in the amount of 20% by weight. The tensile strength, water absorption, frost resistance, surface contact angle, and free surface energy were examined. Microscopic images were taken using the SEM method and the content of some elements in selected microareas was determined using the EDXS method. In the study, a constant magnetic field with magnetic induction B was used, by means of which the properties and structure of polymer composites were modified. Scientific research in the field of polymers is the driving force behind the progress of civilization. Smart materials are able to respond to external stimuli, such as magnetic fields, with significant changes in their properties. The magnetic field affects not only chemical reactions, but also the crystallographic structure and physicochemical properties of the final products. Owing to their unique properties, such materials can be used in the space industry, automotive industry, or electrical engineering.

Abstract:The effect of magnetic field on isotactic polypropylene(iPP) during the course of melt crystallization and thermal treatment were investigated with polarized optical microscope(POM),differential scanning calorimetry(DSC) and wide angle X-ray diffraction(WAXD).In the presence of magnetic field,the size of PP spherulite increases gradually,displaying the nervation-shaped fibrillar structure,as the melting temperature and melting time increase.Magnetic field is unfavorable to the growth of β-crystal,resulting to the perfection of iPP crystallization.The degree of crystallinity of iPP changes a little when both the melting and crystallization of iPP are subjected to magnetic field,whenas it increases significantly if iPP melt without but isothermal crystallize with magnetic field.
