Symmetry Integrability and Geometry Methods and Applications

Abstract:The goals of this paper are threefold. First, we provide a new ''universal'' definition for the Racah algebra of rank 2 as an extension of the rank-1 Racah algebra where the generators are indexed by subsets and any three disjoint indexing sets define a subalgebra isomorphic to the rank-1 case. With this definition, we explore some of the properties of the algebra including verifying that these natural assumptions are equivalent to other defining relations in the literature. Second, we look at the symmetries of the generators of the rank-2 Racah algebra. Those symmetries allows us to partially make abstraction of the choice of the generators and write relations and properties in a different format. Last, we provide a novel representation of the Racah algebra. This new representation requires only one generator to be diagonal and is based on an expansion of the split basis representation from the rank-1 Racah algebra.

Matrix elements of $SO(3)$ in $sl_3$ representations as bispectral multivariate functions

Abstract:We compute the matrix elements of $SO(3)$ in any finite-dimensional irreducible representation of $sl_3$. They are expressed in terms of a double sum of products of Krawtchouk and Racah polynomials which generalize the Griffiths-Krawtchouk polynomials. Their recurrence and difference relations are obtained as byproducts of our construction. The proof is based on the decomposition of a general three-dimensional rotation in terms of elementary planar rotations and a transition between two embeddings of $sl_2$ in $sl_3$. The former is related to monovariate Krawtchouk polynomials and the latter, to monovariate Racah polynomials. The appearance of Racah polynomials in this context is algebraically explained by showing that the two $sl_2$ Casimir elements related to the two embeddings of $sl_2$ in $sl_3$ obey the Racah algebra relations. We also show that these two elements generate the centralizer in $U(sl_3)$ of the Cartan subalgebra and its complete algebraic description is given.

Abstract:We prove an infinite family of identities satisfied by the Rankin–Cohen brackets involving the Racah polynomials. A natural interpretation in the representation theory of sl (2) is provided. From these identities and known properties of the Racah polynomials follows a short new proof of the associativity of the Eholzer product. Finally, we discuss, in the context of Rankin–Cohen algebras introduced by Zagier, how any algebraic identity satisfied by the Rankin–Cohen brackets can be seen as a consequence of the set of identities presented in this paper.

Abstract:In this article, by studying the Bernstein degrees and Goldie rank polynomials, we establish a comparison between the irreducible representations of G = GL n （C） possessing the minimal Gelfand-Kirillov dimension and those induced from finite-dimensional representations of the maximal parabolic subgroup of G of type（n-1, 1）. We give the transition matrix between the two bases for the corresponding coherent families.

Abstract:Let G be a semisimple Lie group with a Cartan decomposition G = K exp($\mathfrak{p}$). For every finite-dimensional representation of G, there is an inner product on the representation space such that with respect to it, K acts as unitary operators, and exp($\mathfrak{p}$) acts as positive definite Hermitian operators. In this paper, we observe that similar phenomena appear for infinite-dimensional representations with real infinitesimal characters.

Abstract:This paper studies irreducible characters of the $q$-rook monoid algebra $R_n(q)$ using the vertex algebraic method. Based on the Frobenius formula for $R_n(q)$, a new iterative character formula is derived with the help of the vertex operator realization of the Schur symmetric function. The same idea also leads to a simple proof of the Murnaghan-Nakayama rule for $R_n(q)$. We also introduce the bitrace for the $q$-monoid and obtain a general combinatorial formula for the bitrace, which generalizes the counterpart for the Iwahori-Hecke algebra. The character table of $R_n(q)$ with $|\mu|=5$ is listed in the appendix.

Abstract:In this note, we use a variant of the hyperbola method to prove an asymptotic expansion for the summatory function of the number of irreducible $\mathfrak{su}(3)$-representations of dimension $n$. This is a natural companion result to work of Romik, who proved an asymptotic formula for the number of unrestricted $\mathfrak{su}(3)$-representations of dimension $n$.

Abstract:It is a well known result that the number of irreducible representations of SU(N) on a tensor product containing k factors of a vector space V is given by the number of involutions in the symmetric group on k letters. In this paper, we present an alternative proof for this fact using a basis of projection and transition operators of the algebra of invariants of SU(N). This proof easily generalizes to the irreducible representations of SU(N) on mixed tensor product spaces (consisting of factors of V as well as its dual space). This implies that the number of irreducible representation of SU(N) on such a space remains unchanged if one exchanges factors V for its dual and vice versa, as long as the total number of factors remains unchanged.

Abstract:All irreducible representations of the Chinese monoid $C_n$, of any rank $n$, over a nondenumerable algebraically closed field $K$, are constructed. It turns out that they have a remarkably simple form and they can be built inductively from irreducible representations of the monoid $C_2$. The proof shows also that every such representation is monomial. Since $C_n$ embeds into the algebra $K[C_n]/J(K[C_n])$, where $J(K[C_n])$ denotes the Jacobson radical of the mooned algebra $K[C_n]$, a new representation of $C_n$ as a subdirect product of the images of $C_n$ in the endomorphism algebras of the constructed simple modules follows.

Abstract:Alternative canonical methods for defining canonical SO(3)-coupled bases for SU(3) irreps are considered and compared. It is shown that a basis that diagonalizes a particular linear combination of SO(3) invariants in the SU(3) universal enveloping algebra gives basis states that have good $K$ quantum numbers in the asymptotic rotor-model limit.

Abstract:Let $P$ be a finite poset and $L$ the associated distributive lattice of order ideals of $P$. Let $\rho$ denote the rowmotion bijection of the order ideals of $P$ viewed as a permutation matrix and $C$ the Coxeter matrix for the incidence algebra $kL$ of $L$. Then we show the identity $(\rho^{-1} C)^2=id$, as was originally conjectured by Sam Hopkins. Recently it was noted that the rowmotion bijection is a special case of the much more general grade bijection $R$ that exists for any Auslander regular algebra. This motivates to study the interaction of the grade bijection and the Coxeter matrix for general Auslander regular algebras. For the class of higher Auslander algebras coming from $n$-representation finite algebras we show that $(R^{-1} C)^2=id$ if $n$ is even and $(R^{-1}C+id)^2=0$ when $n$ is odd.

Abstract:The so called Gell-Mann or decontraction formula is proposed as an algebraic expression inverse to the Inonu-Wigner Lie algebra contraction. It is tailored to express the Lie algebra elements in terms of the corresponding contracted ones. In the case of sl(n,R) and su(n) algebras, contracted w.r.t. so(n) subalgebras, this formula is generally not valid, and applies only in the cases of some algebra representations. A generalization of the Gell-Mann formula for sl(n,R) and su(n) algebras, that is valid for all tensorial, spinorial, (non)unitary representations, is obtained in a group manifold framework of the SO(n) and/or Spin(n) group. The generalized formula is simple, concise and of ample application potentiality. The matrix elements of the SL(n,R)/Spin(n), i.e. SU(n)/SO(n), generators are determined, by making use of the generalized formula, in a closed form for all irreducible representations.

Abstract:Stanley's formula for the number of reduced expressions of a permutation regarded as a Coxeter group element raises the question of how to enumerate the reduced expressions of an arbitrary Coxeter group element. We provide a framework for answering this question by constructing combinatorial objects that represent the inversion set and the reduced expressions for an arbitrary Coxeter group element. The framework also provides a formula for the length of an element formed by deleting a generator from a Coxeter group element. Fan and Hagiwara, et al$.$ showed that for certain Coxeter groups, the short-braid avoiding elements characterize those elements that give reduced expressions when any generator is deleted from a reduced expression. We provide a characterization that holds in all Coxeter groups. Lastly, we give applications to the freely braided elements introduced by Green and Losonczy, generalizing some of their results that hold in simply-laced Coxeter groups to the arbitrary Coxeter group setting.
