Abstract:By embedding a Toeplitz matrix-vector product (MVP) of dimension n into a circulant MVP of dimension [Formula: see text], where δ can be any nonnegative integer, we present a GF(2n) multiplication algorithm. This algorithm leads to a new redundant representation, and it has two merits: (1) The flexible choices of δ make it possible to select a proper N such that the multiplication operation in ring [Formula: see text] can be performed using some asymptotically faster algorithms, e.g. the Fast Fourier Transformation (FFT)-based multiplication algorithm; (2) The redundant degrees, which are defined as N/n, are smaller than those of most previous GF(2n) redundant representations, and in fact they are approximately equal to 2 for all applicable cases.

Abstract:In this article, by studying the Bernstein degrees and Goldie rank polynomials, we establish a comparison between the irreducible representations of G = GL n （C） possessing the minimal Gelfand-Kirillov dimension and those induced from finite-dimensional representations of the maximal parabolic subgroup of G of type（n-1, 1）. We give the transition matrix between the two bases for the corresponding coherent families.

Abstract:Let A be a nonempty set of positive integers. The restricted partition function denotes the number of partitions of n with parts in A . When the elements in A are pairwise relatively prime positive integers, Ehrhart, Sertöz–Özlük, and Brown–Chou–Shiue derived three reduction formulas for for A with three parameters. We extend their findings for general A using the Bernoulli–Barnes polynomials.

Abstract:We introduce an algorithm to decompose orthogonal matrix representations of the symmetric group over the reals into irreducible representations, which as a by-product also computes the multiplicities of the irreducible representations. The algorithm applied to a $d$-dimensional representation of $S_n$ is shown to have a complexity of $O(n^2 d^3)$ operations for determining which irreducible representations are present and their corresponding multiplicities and a further $O(n d^4)$ operations to fully decompose representations with non-trivial multiplicities. These complexity bounds are pessimistic and in a practical implementation using floating point arithmetic and exploiting sparsity we observe better complexity. We demonstrate this algorithm on the problem of computing multiplicities of two tensor products of irreducible representations (the Kronecker coefficients problem) as well as higher order tensor products. For hook and hook-like irreducible representations the algorithm has polynomial complexity as $n$ increases. We also demonstrate an application to constructing a basis of multivariate orthogonal polynomials with respect to a tensor product weight so that applying a permutation of variables induces an irreducible representation.

Abstract:All irreducible representations of the Chinese monoid $C_n$, of any rank $n$, over a nondenumerable algebraically closed field $K$, are constructed. It turns out that they have a remarkably simple form and they can be built inductively from irreducible representations of the monoid $C_2$. The proof shows also that every such representation is monomial. Since $C_n$ embeds into the algebra $K[C_n]/J(K[C_n])$, where $J(K[C_n])$ denotes the Jacobson radical of the mooned algebra $K[C_n]$, a new representation of $C_n$ as a subdirect product of the images of $C_n$ in the endomorphism algebras of the constructed simple modules follows.

Abstract:It is a well known result that the number of irreducible representations of SU(N) on a tensor product containing k factors of a vector space V is given by the number of involutions in the symmetric group on k letters. In this paper, we present an alternative proof for this fact using a basis of projection and transition operators of the algebra of invariants of SU(N). This proof easily generalizes to the irreducible representations of SU(N) on mixed tensor product spaces (consisting of factors of V as well as its dual space). This implies that the number of irreducible representation of SU(N) on such a space remains unchanged if one exchanges factors V for its dual and vice versa, as long as the total number of factors remains unchanged.

Abstract:Let $R=K[x_{1},x_{2},\cdots, x_{m}]$ and $S=$ $K[y_{1},y_{2},\cdots, y_{m}]$ where $K$ is a field. %commutative ring with unity. In this paper, we propose a method showing how to obtain $3$-matrix factors for a given polynomial using either the Doolittle or the Crout decomposition techniques that we apply to matrices whose entries are not real numbers but polynomials. We also define the category of $3$-matrix factorizations of a polynomial $f$ whose objects are $3$-matrix factorizations of $f$, that is triplets $(P,Q,T)$ of $m\times m $ matrices such that $PQT=fI_{m}$. Moreover, we construct a bifunctorial operation $\bar{\otimes}_{3}$ which is such that if $X$ (respectively $Y$) is a $3-$matrix factorization of $f\in R$ (respectively $g\in S$), then $X\bar{\otimes}_{3} Y$ is a $3-$matrix factorization of $fg\in K[x_{1},x_{2},\cdots, x_{m},y_{1},y_{2},\cdots, y_{m}]$. We call $\bar{\otimes}_{3}$ the multiplicative tensor product of $3-$matrix factorizations. Finally, we give some properties of the operation $\bar{\otimes}_{3}$.

Abstract:Let $f(t_1, \ldots, t_r, X)\in \mathbb{Z}[t_1, \ldots, t_r,X]$ be irreducible and let $a_1, \ldots, a_r\in \mathbb{Z} \smallsetminus \{0,\pm 1\}$. Under a necessary ramification assumption on $f$, and conditionally on the Generalized Riemann Hypothesis, we show that for almost all integers $n_1, \ldots, n_r$, the polynomial $f(a_1^{n_1}, \ldots, a_r^{n_r}, X)$ is irreducible in $\mathbb{Q}[X]$.

Abstract:Stanley's formula for the number of reduced expressions of a permutation regarded as a Coxeter group element raises the question of how to enumerate the reduced expressions of an arbitrary Coxeter group element. We provide a framework for answering this question by constructing combinatorial objects that represent the inversion set and the reduced expressions for an arbitrary Coxeter group element. The framework also provides a formula for the length of an element formed by deleting a generator from a Coxeter group element. Fan and Hagiwara, et al$.$ showed that for certain Coxeter groups, the short-braid avoiding elements characterize those elements that give reduced expressions when any generator is deleted from a reduced expression. We provide a characterization that holds in all Coxeter groups. Lastly, we give applications to the freely braided elements introduced by Green and Losonczy, generalizing some of their results that hold in simply-laced Coxeter groups to the arbitrary Coxeter group setting.

Overcomplete Tensor Decomposition via Koszul-Young Flattenings

Abstract:Motivated by connections between algebraic complexity lower bounds and tensor decompositions, we investigate Koszul-Young flattenings, which are the main ingredient in recent lower bounds for matrix multiplication. Based on this tool we give a new algorithm for decomposing an $n_1 \times n_2 \times n_3$ tensor as the sum of a minimal number of rank-1 terms, and certifying uniqueness of this decomposition. For $n_1 \le n_2 \le n_3$ with $n_1 \to \infty$ and $n_3/n_2 = O(1)$, our algorithm is guaranteed to succeed when the tensor rank is bounded by $r \le (1-\epsilon)(n_2 + n_3)$ for an arbitrary $\epsilon > 0$, provided the tensor components are generically chosen. For any fixed $\epsilon$, the runtime is polynomial in $n_3$. When $n_2 = n_3 = n$, our condition on the rank gives a factor-of-2 improvement over the classical simultaneous diagonalization algorithm, which requires $r \le n$, and also improves on the recent algorithm of Koiran (2024) which requires $r \le 4n/3$. It also improves on the PhD thesis of Persu (2018) which solves rank detection for $r \leq 3n/2$. We complement our upper bounds by showing limitations, in particular that no flattening of the style we consider can surpass rank $n_2 + n_3$. Furthermore, for $n \times n \times n$ tensors, we show that an even more general class of degree-$d$ polynomial flattenings cannot surpass rank $Cn$ for a constant $C = C(d)$. This suggests that for tensor decompositions, the case of generic components may be fundamentally harder than that of random components, where efficient decomposition is possible even in highly overcomplete settings.

Abstract:This work introduces an explicit expression for the generation function for the reduction of an $n$-gon to an $(n-k)$-gon. A novel recursive relation of generation function is formulated based on Feynman Parametrization in projective space, involving a single ordinary differential equation. The explicit formulation of generation functions provides crucial insights into the complex analytic structure inherent in loop amplitudes.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the asymptotics of multiplicities of irreducible representations in large tensor products of finite dimensional representations of simple Lie algebras and their statistics with respect to Plancherel and character probability measures. We derive the asymptotic distribution of irreducible components for the Plancherel measure, generalizing results of Biane and Tate and Zelditch. We also derive the asymptotics of the character measure for generic parameters and an intermediate scaling in the vicinity of the Plancherel measure. It is interesting that the asymptotic measure is universal and after suitable renormalization does not depend on which representations were multiplied but depends significantly on the degeneracy of the parameter in the character distribution.

Abstract:Let $ \mathbb{F}_q $ be the finite field of $ q $ elements, and $ \mathbb{F}_{q^{n}} $ its extension of degree $ n $. A normal basis of $ \mathbb{F}_{q^{n}} $ over $ \mathbb{F}_q $ is a basis of the form $ \{\alpha, \alpha^{q}, \cdots, \alpha^{q^{n-1}}\} $. Some problems on normal bases can be finally reduced to the determination of the irreducible factors of the polynomial $ x^{n}-1 $ in $ \mathbb{F}_q $, while the latter is closely related to the cyclotomic polynomials. Denote by $ \mathfrak{F}(x^{n}-1) $ the set of all distinct monic irreducible factors of $ x^{n}-1 $ in $ \mathbb{F}_q $. The criteria for \begin{document}$ |\mathfrak{F}(x^{n}-1)|\leq 2 $\end{document} have been studied in the literature. In this paper, we provide the sufficient and necessary conditions for \begin{document}$ |\mathfrak{F}(x^{n}-1)| = s, $\end{document} where $ s $ is a positive integer by using the properties of cyclotomic polynomials and results from the Diophantine equations. As an application, we obtain the sufficient and necessary conditions for \begin{document}$ |\mathfrak{F}(x^{n}-1)| = 3, 4, 5. $\end{document}
