Abstract:The characters of finite-dimensional irreducible modules of the Lie superalgebra osp(n|2) are completely determined in terms of those of generalized Verma modules. Abstract:We use recent results of Rolen, Zwegers, and the first author to study characters of irreducible (highest weight) modules for the vertex operator algebra $L_{\frak{sl}_\ell}(-\Lambda_0)$. We establish asymptotic behaviors of characters for the (ordinary) irreducible $L_{\frak{sl}_\ell}(-\Lambda_0)$-modules. As a consequence we prove that their quantum dimensions are one, as predicted by representation theory. We also establish a full asymptotic expansion of irreducible characters for $\frak{sl}_3$. Finally, we determine a decomposition formula for the full characters in terms of unary theta and false theta functions which allows us to study their modular properties.

Abstract:Let k be an algebraically closed field of characteristic p>2.In this paper,the authors study the restricted representations of the general linear Lie superalgebras gl(m| n), and take the connection into account with rational representations of the corresponding algebraic supergroup GL(m | n).The main results include(1) The iso-classes of restricted irreducible modules for gl(m | n) are easily parameterized.Some of those modules are just Kac-modules,for judgement of which a necessary and sufficient condition is given, parallel to the case in the field of complex number;(2) The restricted projective modules of gl(m | n)-module can be lifted to a rational GL(m | n)-module when m■n(modp) and p≥2h - 2(h = max{m,n}).Furthermore,such projective modules have Z-filtrations, i.e.,each subquotient of such a filtration is isomorphic to some"baby Verma modules"; (3) A reciprocity formula for the rth Frobenius kernels G_r of G is obtained,which reflects the relation between the multiplicities in such a filtration of the projective cover of simple G_r-modules and the composite numbers of baby Verma modules.
Subregular nilpotent orbits and explicit character formulas for modules over affine Lie algebras

Abstract:Let $\mathfrak{g}$ be a simple finite dimensional complex Lie algebra and let $\widehat{\mathfrak{g}}$ be the corresponding affine Lie algebra. Kac and Wakimoto observed that in some cases the coefficients in the character formula for a simple highest weight $\widehat{\mathfrak{g}}$-module are either bounded or are given by a linear function of the weight. We explain and generalize this observation using Kazhdan-Lusztig theory, by computing values at $q=1$ of certain (parabolic) affine inverse Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials. In particular, we obtain explicit character formulas for some $\widehat{\mathfrak{g}}$-modules of negative integer level $k$ when $\mathfrak g$ is of type $D_n$, $E_6$, $E_7$, $E_8$ and $k \geqslant -2, -3, -4, -6$ respectively, as conjectured by Kac and Wakimoto. The calculation relies on the explicit description of the canonical basis in the cell quotient of the anti-spherical module over the affine Hecke algebra corresponding to the subregular cell. We also present an explicit description of the corresponding objects in the derived category of equivariant coherent sheaves on the Springer resolution, they correspond to irreducible objects in the heart of a certain $t$-structure related to the so called non-commutative Springer resolution.

Values of characters sums for finite unitary groups

Abstract:A known result for the finite general linear group $\GL(n,\FF_q)$ and for the finite unitary group $\U(n,\FF_{q^2})$ posits that the sum of the irreducible character degrees is equal to the number of symmetric matrices in the group. Fulman and Guralnick extended this result by considering sums of irreducible characters evaluated at an arbitrary conjugacy class of $\GL(n,\FF_q)$. We develop an explicit formula for the value of the permutation character of $\U(2n,\FF_{q^2})$ over $\Sp(2n,\FF_q)$ evaluated an an arbitrary conjugacy class and use results concerning Gelfand-Graev characters to obtain an analogous formula for $\U(n,\FF_{q^2})$ in the case where $q$ is an odd prime. These results are also given as probabilistic statements.

Iterative character constructions for algebra groups

Abstract:We construct a family of orthogonal characters of an algebra group which decompose the supercharacters defined by Diaconis and Isaacs. Like supercharacters, these characters are given by nonnegative integer linear combinations of Kirillov functions and are induced from linear supercharacters of certain algebra subgroups. We derive a formula for these characters and give a condition for their irreducibility; generalizing a theorem of Otto, we also show that each such character has the same number of Kirillov functions and irreducible characters as constituents. In proving these results, we observe as an application how a recent computation by Evseev implies that every irreducible character of the unitriangular group $\UT_n(q)$ of unipotent $n\times n$ upper triangular matrices over a finite field with $q$ elements is a Kirillov function if and only if $n\leq 12$. As a further application, we discuss some more general conditions showing that Kirillov functions are characters, and describe some results related to counting the irreducible constituents of supercharacters.

Abstract:Let $\mathcal O_p$ denote the characteristic $p>0$ version of the ordinary category $\mathcal O$ for a semisimple complex Lie algebra. In this paper we give some (formal) character formulas in $\mathcal O_p$. First we concentrate on the irreducible characters. Here we give explicit formulas for how to obtain all irreducible characters from the characters of the finitely many restricted simple modules as well as the characters of a small number of infinite dimensional simple modules in $\mathcal O_p$ with specified highest weights. We next prove a strong linkage principle for Verma modules which allow us to split $\mathcal O_p$ into a finite direct sum of linkage classes. There are corresponding translation functors and we use these to further cut down the set of irreducible characters needed for determining all others. Then we show that the twisting functors on $\mathcal O$ carry over to twisting functors on $\mathcal O_p$, and as an application we prove a character sum formula for Jantzen-type filtrations of Verma modules with antidominant highest weights. Finally, we record formulas relating the characters of the two kinds of tilting modules in $\mathcal O_p$.

Abstract:The paper studies how to compute irreducible characters of the generalized symmetric group $C_k\wr{S}_n$ by iterative algorithms. After reproving the Ariki-Koike version of the Murnaghan-Nakayama rule by vertex algebraic methods, we formulate a new iterative formula for characters of the generalized symmetric group. As applications, we find a numerical relation between the character values of $C_k\wr S_n$ and modular characters of $S_{kn}$.

Abstract:We establish a super Frobenius formula for the characters of Iwahori-Hecke algebras. We show that the Hall-Littlewood sypersymmetric function, up to constant, generates the values of the irreducible characters of Iwahori-Hecke algebras at the elements corresponding to cycle permutations. Our formula in this article includes both the ordinary quantum case and the classical super case.

Abstract:The behavior of objects associated with general extended affine Lie algebras is typically distinct from their counterparts in affine Lie algebras. Our research focuses on studying characters and Cartan automorphisms, which appear in the study of Chevalley involutions and Chevalley bases for extended affine Lie algebras. We show that for almost all extended affine Lie algebras, any finite order Cartan automorphism is diagonal, and its corresponding combinatorial map is a character.

Abstract:We extend an inhomogeneous polynomial representation of special linear Lie superalgebras sl(m + 1|n) to an inhomogeneous representation on the tensor space of any irreducible tensor representation of the general linear Lie superalgebras gl(m|n) with this polynomial space via Shen's mixed product. We find a sufficient and necessary condition for irreducibility of these inhomogeneous representations, and get the Jordan-Holder series of those which are not irreducible. Furthermore, we point out that all these irreducible modules are lowest weight modules. Their lowest weights and character formulas are obtained. (C) 2014 AIP Publishing LLC.

Abstract:We investigate a specific class of CV modules for $\mathfrak{sl}_3$ and establish an exact sequence for these modules. Utilizing dimension arguments, we demonstrate that this module is isomorphic to the fusion product of irreducible modules, thereby offering a new proof of the conjecture regarding the independence of fusion products from parameters. By analyzing the filtration of the kernel within the exact sequence, we derive the graded character formula for fusion product modules. Moreover, we leverage the graded character to deduce the algebraic characterization of the Littlewood-Richardson (LR) coefficients and present an alternative proof of the saturation theorem in type $A_2$.

Abstract:In this paper, we use vertex operators to compute irreducible characters of the Iwahori-Hecke algebra of type A. Two general formulas are given for the irreducible characters in terms of those of the symmetric groups or the Iwahori-Hecke algebras in lower degrees. Explicit formulas are derived for the irreducible characters labeled by hooks and two-row partitions. We also formulate a determinant type Murnaghan-Nakayama formula and give another proof of the combinatorial Murnaghan-Nakayama rule. As applications, we study super-characters of the Iwahori-Hecke algebra as well as the bitrace of the regular representation and provide a simple proof of the Halverson-Leduc-Ram formula.
On tensor products of representations of Lie superalgebras

Abstract:We consider typical finite dimensional complex irreducible representations of a basic classical simple Lie superalgebra, and give a sufficient condition on when unique factorization of finite tensor products of such representations hold. We also prove unique factorization of tensor products of singly atypical finite dimensional irreducible modules for $\mathfrak{sl}(m+1,n+1)$, $\mathfrak{osp}(2,2n)$, $G(3)$ and $F(4)$ under an additional assumption. This result is a Lie superalgebra analogue of Rajan's fundamental result \cite{MR2123935} on unique factorization of tensor products for finite dimensional complex simple Lie algebras.

Abstract:Let $\mathfrak{g}$ be a complex semisimple Lie algebra. We give a description of characters of irreducible Whittaker modules for $\mathfrak{g}$ with any infinitesimal character, along with a Kazhdan-Lusztig algorithm for computing them. This generalizes Milicic-Soergel's and Romanov's results for integral infinitesimal characters. As a special case, we recover the non-integral Kazhdan-Lusztig conjecture for Verma modules.

Abstract:We extend the techniques in <a class="link-https" data-arxiv-id="2209.08865" href="https://arxiv.org/abs/2209.08865">arXiv:2209.08865</a>(1) to the non-simply-laced situation, and calculate explicit special values of parabolic affine inverse Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials for subregular nilpotent orbits. We thus obtain explicit character formulas for certain irreducible representations of affine Lie algebras. As particular cases, we compute characters of simple vertex algebras $V_{k}(\mathfrak{g})$ for $k=-1,\ldots,-b$, where $b$ is the largest label of the highest short coroot $\theta^\vee$. Conjecturally, all ordinary modules over $V_{-b}(\mathfrak{g})$ are covered by our computations. As an application, we obtain the explicit formulas for flavoured Schur indices of rank one Argyres-Douglas 4d SCFTs with flavour symmetry $G_2$ and $B_3$. Our results are proved using the geometry of the Springer resolution. We identify the cell quotient of the anti-spherical module over $\widehat{W}$ corresponding to the subregular cell with a certain one-dimensional extension of a module defined by Lusztig. We describe the canonical basis in this module geometrically and present an explicit description of the corresponding objects in the derived category of equivariant coherent sheaves on the Springer resolution. They correspond to irreducible objects in the heart of a certain $t$-structure that we describe using an equivariant version of the derived McKay correspondence.
