Abstract:A new secoiridoid named chinensisol (1) along with twenty known compounds were isolated from the 95% ethanol extract of Cortex fraxini. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of NMR, MS, IR and UV spectral evidences. The quinone reductase (QR) inducing activities of the compounds were evaluated and the results showed that compounds 1, 9 and 14 had moderate QR inducing activities with CD values (concentration required to double the specific activity of QR) of 72.4 ± 7.7, 34.3 ± 3.3 and 42.0 ± 0.4 μM respectively.

Abstract:Three new diterpenoid alkaloids ( 1 , 2 , 3 ) and seventeen known ( 4–20 ) compounds were isolated from the whole plant of Delphinium sherriffii Munz (Ranunculaceae). Their structures were elucidated by various spectroscopic analyses, including IR, HR-ESI-MS, 1D and 2D NMR spectra. All compounds were evaluated for the inhibitory activity of Sf9 cells and compound 5 exhibited the strongest cytotoxicity (IC 50 = 8.97 μM) against Sf9 cell line.

Abstract:Four new compounds ( 1 – 4 ) were isolated from the whole plants of two species of Delphinium , including two C 20 -diterpenoid alkaloids, umbrodines A and B ( 1 and 2 ), and a dibenzoxazepinone, umbrolide A ( 3 ) from Delphinium umbrosum Hand.-Mazz. and a C 20 -diterpenoid alkaloid, kingiadine ( 4 ) from Delphinium kingianum Bruhl. ex Huth. Ten known diterpenoid alkaloids were also isolated. Their structures were elucidated via HR-ESIMS, IR, and NMR data. Lycoctonine ( 11 ) and delectinine ( 12 ) exhibited appreciable cardiac activity. Furthermore, 11 and 12 showed cardioprotective effects against doxorubicin-induced toxicity in H9c2 cells, with the maximum protection rates of 61.63% and 51.18%, respectively. Graphical

Abstract:Six diterpenoid alkaloids, namely, pachycentine ( 1 ), deacetylswinanine A ( 2 ), siwanine A ( 3 ), tatsiensine ( 4 ), deacetyltatsiensine ( 5 ), and 6-deoxydeltamine ( 6 ), were isolated from a China-specific Delphinium plant (family Ranunculaceae), Delphinium pachycentrum Hemsl. Their structures were established via detailed spectroscopic analyses, including IR, HR-ESI-MS, 1D and 2D NMR techniques. Pachycentine ( 1 ) is a previously undescribed hetisine-type C 20 -diterpenoid alkaloid, and compounds 5 and 6 were synthetic intermediates newly identified as natural products. In addition, compounds 2 – 4 were isolated from this species for the first time. The chemotaxonomic significance of all the isolates was summarized. Abstract:The chemical constituents have been isolated from Delphinium tatsienense Franch Var Chinghaiense by column chromatography and preparative thin layer chromatography. The structures of the diterpenoid alkaloids were elucidated by IR, EA, MS, H-1 NMR, C-13 NMR as well as DEPT. Six compounds were obtained, among which one is a new ditepenoid alkaloid, four axe known diterpenoid alkaloids and the other is P-sitosterol.

Abstract:Delphinium grandiflorum L. (family Ranunculaceae), one of the most important and widely distributed Delphinium species, has received considerable interest due to its extremely high medicinal value. The discovery of novel metabolites from D. grandiflorum supported and broadened its application as an herbal medicine. In this study, the whole herb of D. grandiflorum was phytochemically investigated to obtain fourteen C 19 -lycaconitine-type diterpenoid alkaloids ( 1 – 14 ), including six undescribed alkaloids, grandiflolines A–F ( 1 – 6 ). The structural elucidation of them was accomplished by detailed spectroscopic analyses, mainly including HR-MS, 1D and 2D NMR ( 1 H– 1 H COSY, NOESY, HMBC and HSQC), and IR spectra. New alkaloids 1 – 3 and 5 possess a characteristic △ 2,3 functional group in the A ring, while compounds 5 and 6 feature a rare OH-16 substituent. In addition, known compounds 7 – 12 were isolated from D. grandiflorum for the first time. Moreover, according to its medicinal use, new alkaloids 1 – 6 were estimated for their potential in vitro anti-inflammatory effects, and some of them exhibited inhibitory effects on NO production in LPS-activated RAW 264.7 macrophages. Our work enriched the chemical diversity of D. grandiflorum and the genus Delphinium and presented beneficial information for further investigations.

Abstract:Two new C19‐diterpenoid alkaloids of the lycoctonine‐type (liangshanine A and liangshanine B) and nineteen known compounds (3‐21) were isolated from the whole plant of Delphinium liangshanense W. T. Wang, and all the compounds were identified by different spectroscopic analyses, such as IR, HR‐ESI‐MS and NMR. All the compounds were isolated from this plant for the first time and tested for the anti‐proliferation effects on MH7A and SF9 cells to figure their anti‐rheumatoid arthritis and anti‐insect activity, but none of them showed remarkable activity.

Abstract:The genus Delphinium is a rich source of diterpene alkaloids. Chemical investigation on an alkaloid rich extract of the whole parts of Delphinium turkmenum resulted in the isolation of three C 19 -diterpene alkaloids ( 1-3 ) and a palmitic acid derivative ( 4 ). The chemical structures were elucidated by analysis of 1D and 2D-NMR and comparison the data with those reported in the literature. Notably, all isolated compounds were reported for the first time from D. turkmenum.

Abstract:Twelve alkaloids were isolated from the bulbs of Fritillaria yuminensis by column chromatography over silica gel, ODS, and Sephadex LH-20, as well as RP-HPLC. Their structures were identified mainly by NMR and MS analyses as yubeinine (1) , imperialine (2) , delavinone (3) , tortifoline (4) , hupehenizioiside (5) , imperialine-β-D-glucoside (6) , kuroyurinidine (7) , pengbeisine A (8) , walujewine A (9) , peimisine-3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (10) , solanidine-3-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl- (1→2) -β-D-glucopyranoside (11) , and solanidine-3-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl- (1→2) -[β-D-glucopyranosyl- (1→4) ]-β-D-glucopyranoside (12) . Compounds 4-12 were obtained from F. yuminensis for the first time.

Abstract:Thirteen new benzamide alkaloids, delphiniumines A–M (1–13), together with one known analogue (14), were isolated from Delphinium anthriscifolium Hance. All of the structures were determined by spectroscopic and spectrometric analyses. Absolute configuration for 1 was established using experimental and calculated ECD data, as well as by X-ray crystallography analysis. Compound 1 possesses a previously undescribed polysubstituted cyclopentene carbon framework. Compound 2 was isolated as an artifact from 1 during the extraction process. Compound 7 is glycosylated with a β-D-glucose unit. Compound 13 bears a chlorine substituent. Abstract:In search for new metabolites from the stem bark of Calophyllum soulattri and Calophyllum gracilentum , led to the isolation of a new xanthone, soulaxanthone ( 1 ), along with four other known metabolites, euxanthone ( 2 ), calopolyanolide E ( 3 ), calanolide E ( 4 ) and friedelin ( 5 ). The structures of these compounds were identified and elucidated using spectroscopic techniques such as 1 H NMR, 13 C NMR, COSY, DEPT, HSQC, HMBC, MS and FTIR. The antibacterial activities of compounds 1 – 5 , as well as the extracts, were tested against five bacterial strains. Soulaxanthone ( 1 ) exhibited moderate activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa with an MIC value of 25 μg/mL. Hexane (non-polar) extract from both plants exhibited moderate activity against Enterobacter cloacae (MIC = 250 μg/mL). Calopolyanolide E ( 3 ) and friedelin ( 5 ) showed bactericidal activity against Enterobacter cloacae (MBC = 50 μg/mL), thus the compounds have the potential to serve as a new lead for developing effective antibacterial medication.

Abstract:Eleven new steroidal alkaloids, along with nine known related compounds, were isolated from the bulbs of Fritillaria sinica. Seven pairs of diastereomers were identified, including six and four 20-deoxy cevanine-type steroidal alkaloid diastereomers with molecular weights of 413 and 415, respectively. Structures were elucidated based on spectroscopic data analysis, chemical derivatization, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Compounds 5, 9, 11, 12, 16, and 20 exhibited significant in vitro cytotoxic activity against non-small-cell lung cancer with CC50 values from 6.8 ± 3.9 to 12 ± 5 μM.

Abstract:Delphinium grandiflorum , one of the well-known Delphinium species, contains diverse bioactive diterpenoid alkaloids (DAs), which promoted a systematic phytochemical study on this plant. As a result, two new DAs, namely 16-demethyl tuguaconitine ( 1 ) and 6- O -acetyl-16-demethyldelsoline ( 2 ), together with one known analogue pseudophnine A ( 3 ) were obtained from the whole herbs of D. grandiflorum . Their structures were elucidated by use of extensive spectroscopic analysis (HR-ESIMS, IR, 1D and 2D NMR). Additionally, the inhibitory effects of these obtained individual compounds were also evaluated in vitro for lung cancer cell line (A549), liver cancer cell line (SMMC-7721), and breast cancer cell line (MCF-7). The results of cytotoxic activities showed that only compound 2 exhibit weak inhibitory effect on SMMC-7721 and MCF-7, and their IC 50 values were 37.4 and 33.1 μM, respectively. However, compound 1 and 3 had no obvious cytotoxic activities (IC 50 >80 μM).
