Abstract:A new secoiridoid named chinensisol (1) along with twenty known compounds were isolated from the 95% ethanol extract of Cortex fraxini. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of NMR, MS, IR and UV spectral evidences. The quinone reductase (QR) inducing activities of the compounds were evaluated and the results showed that compounds 1, 9 and 14 had moderate QR inducing activities with CD values (concentration required to double the specific activity of QR) of 72.4 ± 7.7, 34.3 ± 3.3 and 42.0 ± 0.4 μM respectively.

Abstract:A new mixture of epimeric isomers furanosesquiterpenes (1 and 1a), together with two known furanosesquiterpenes were isolated from Xanthopappus subacaulis, which was used as Tibetan medicine in China. The structures of these compounds were elucidated on the comprehensive analysis of spectroscopic data including UV, IR, MS and NMR. The biosynthetic pathway of furanosesquiterpenes is proposed and the chemotaxonomic significance of these compounds is also discussed.

Abstract:Sinomendine (1), a good receptor antagonist of angiotensin II and rare oxoaporphine alkaloid isolated from traditional Chinese drug Sinomenium acutum (Thunb.) Rehd. et Wils, was synthesized from a bromobenzylidenetetrahydroisoquinolineenamide precursor (6). Photocyclization of this enamide led to a protected aporphine (7), which could be converted into oxoaporphine (9) and (+/-)-sinomendine (1) by Fremy's salt oxidation followed an available Grignard reaction.

Abstract:Two new 18-norschiartane-type schinortriterpenoids, namely wuwezidilactones Q (1) and R (2) were isolated from the stems of Schisandra lancifolia. Their structures were determined on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analysis. The absolute configurations of the new compounds were further determined by ROESY and an empirical comparison of their experimental ECD spectra with literature.

Abstract:Two previously undescribed chimonanthine-type [sinodamines A and B] and five related known dimeric tryptamine-derived alkaloids were isolated and characterized from the leaves of the endangered ornamental plant Sinocalycanthus chinensis under the guidance of LC-MS detection and dereplication analyses, along with conventional isolation procedures. Their structures were established on the basis of spectroscopic methods and chemical transformations. Sinodamine A can be regarded as the naturally occurring N-oxide derivative of its pseudo-mesomer sinodamine B. An acid-catalyzed Meisenheimer rearrangement from sinodamine A to its oxazine-form with a final equilibrium of 1:2 was observed by monitoring their NMR spectra. (-)-Folicanthine showed significant cytotoxicity against human lung carcinoma A549 and colorectal carcinoma HT29 cells, with IC50 values of 7.76 and 6.16 mu M, respectively. (C) 2018 Elsevier Ltd. Abstract:An unprecedented new limonoid-based alkaloid, granatoine (1), and a new phragmalin, xylocarpin L (2), along with xyloccensin Y were isolated as minor components from the fruits of the Chinese mangrove plant Xylocarpus granatum. Their structures were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic data (1D and 2D NMR) analysis. A possible biogenetic pathway for granatoine was also depicted.

Abstract:Eight undescribed steroidal alkaloid derivatives, including three cevanine-type isosteroidal alkaloids (two N -oxide glycosides and one D-ring aromatization) ( 1 – 3 ), one verazine-type steroidal alkaloid derivative ( 4 ), three solanidine-type steroidal alkaloid glycosides ( 5 – 7 ), and one veratramine-type analogue ( 8 ), along with three known compounds ( 9 – 11 ) were isolated from the bulbs of Fritillaria sinica . Their structures were elucidated by comprehensive analysis of spectroscopic data, acidic hydrolysis, and X-ray crystal diffractions. In the in vitro bioassay, the anti-cancer effect, anti-oxidation and anti-inflammatory activities for the isolates were evaluated at a concentration of 10 μM.

Abstract:Abstract Four undescribed sulfoxide-containing derivatives, sinkiangenoxides A and B, (2Z, 4E)-sinkiangenoxide C, and (2E, 4E)-sinkiangenoxide C (1 – 4), and one known compound, 1-(methylthio)propyl (E)-1-propenyl disulfide (5), were isolated from the resin of Ferula sinkiangensis. Their structures were determined based on spectroscopic methods, including IR, UV, HRESIMS, NMR, and CD analysis. Compounds 2 – 4 showed moderate cytotoxic activities against four human cancer cell lines with IC50 values ranging from 15.0 to 40.3 μM. Sinkiangenoxide B (2) was shown to induce apoptosis in HepG2 cells. In addition, compound 5 effectively attenuated lipopolysaccharide-induced nitric oxide release and TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, and IL-10 expression.

Abstract:A phytochemical investigation on the stems and rhizomes ofSinomenium acutum led to the isolation of 19 compounds,including three phenanthrenes,six anthraquinones,and ten phenolic derivatives.The structures of the isolated compounds were elucidated by analysis of the MS and NMR spectroscopic data and comparison with the literature.Compounds 1 and 2 are two new natural products,and their 1H and 13C NMR spectral data were fully assigned for the first time,with the help of2D NMR.All of the isolates were obtained from genus Sinomenium for the first time and the phenanthrene and anthraquinone are the structure type first reported from this genus plants.

Abstract:Eleven previously undescribed alkaloids, named sinometumines A-K, along with three known alkaloids, were isolated from the rhizomes of Sinomenium acutum . The chemical structures of these unreported compounds were established using extensive spectroscopic methods (IR, UV, HRESIMS, and NMR), and their absolute configurations were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction analyses and calculated circular dichroism spectroscopy (ECD). Sinometumine D was the first aporphine-type derived alkaloid inner salt with a rearranged dibenzofuran ring backbone. Sinometumine E was a rare protoberberine-type alkaloid with a complex 6/6/6/6/6/6 hexacyclic skeleton. This was the first report of alkaloids with these two skeletons isolated from S. acutum . All isolates were evaluated for their inhibitory activities against indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase 1 (IDO1) and tryptophan 2,3-dioxygenase (TDO). Lysicamine possessed noteworthy inhibitory activities as IDO1/TDO dual inhibitors with IC 50 values of 6.22 ± 0.26 μ M and 23.76 ± 2.93 μ M, respectively, and liriodenine revealed moderate dual inhibition with IC 50 values of 31.65 ± 4.44 μ M and 15.64 ± 0.26 μ M. The intermolecular interactions and binding modes between lysicamine and IDO1/TDO were elaborated by molecular docking studies.

Abstract:A new sodium salt of anthraquinone named sodium emodin-1-O-β-gentiobioside, together with nine known compounds, viz. rubrofusarin-6-O-β-D-gentiobioside, chrysophanol-1-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1-3)-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1-6)-β-D-glucopyranoside, obtusifolin-2-O-β-D-glucopyranoside, aurantio-obtusin-6-O-β-D-glucopyranoside, physcion-8-O-β-D-glucopyranoside, 1-hydroxyl-2-acetyl-3,8-dimethoxy-6-O-β-D-apiofuranosyl-(1-2)-β-D-glucosylnaphthalene, toralactone-9-O-β-D-gentiobioside, aurantio-obtusin, rubrofusarin-6-O-β-D-apiofuranosyl-(1-6)-O-β-D-glucopyranoside, was isolated from the seeds of Cassia obtusifolia and its structure was elucidated by (1)H and (13)C NMR technique assisted with acid-alkali titration. The change of chemical shifts of sodium emodin-1-O-β-gentiobioside before and after acid-alkali titration was also characterized.

Abstract:This experiment was performed to analyze and identify the chemical constituents of Sinopodophylli Fructus by HPLC-DAD-ESI-IT-TOF-MSn. The analysis was performed on an Agilent Zorbax SB-C₁₈ (4.6 mm×250 mm, 5 μm) column.The mobile phase consisted of 0.1% formic acid was used for gradient at a flow rate of 1.0 mL·min⁻¹. Electrospray ionization ion trap time-of-flight multistage mass spectrometry was applied for qualitative analysis under positive and negative ion modes. The results indicated that 54 compounds consisted of 18 lignans and 36 flavonoids from Xiaoyelian had been detected by their HRMS data, the information of literature and reference substance. Among them, 27 compounds were reported in Sinopodophylli Fructus for the first time. In conclusion, an HPLC-DAD-ESI-IT-TOF-MSn method was established to qualitative analysis of Xiaoyelian in this study, which will provide the evidence for evaluating the quality of Xiaoyelian herbs, clarifying the mechanism, and guiding the development of pharmacological active ingredients.
[A new paeoniflorin derivative isolated from the root bark ethanol extract of Paeonia suffruticosa]

Abstract:Objective: To study the chemical constituents of paeoniflorins from root cortex of the Paeonia suffruticosa. Method: Paeoniflorins were isolated by partition, silica gel column chromatography, medium-pressure RP chromatography and HPLC. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods including IR, MS and NMR techniques. Result: Nine paeoniflorins were isolated and identified from the root bark ethanol extract of P. suffruticosa. Conclusion: The new compound was identified as paeoniflorin-4-ethyl ether, which may be an artifact produced during extraction proved by simulate experiment.
