Abstract:In this paper, a method to coordinate multi-decentralized model predictive controllers(DMMPC), which is used as a strategy to control the integrated plant through decomposing the total system model into different functional sub-models, is proposed. Usually, an integrated plant is also called a large scale systems. The main aim is to relieve the expensive computation load and for improving the flexibility and reliability for operation. How to control and coordinate the possible dynamic coupling and constraints among subsystems has already become an important problem. In order to accomplish the overall objective, coordinating the relationship between optimizer located in upper layer and multi-decentralized MPC controllers located in down layer is a challenging work. A stochastic probability density functions(PDFs) coordination rule is applied to coordinate optimizer with decentralized MPC controllers in the hierarchical control structure. This approach provides the guarantee that local optimal solutions for dominant controlled variables approximate their global optimal solutions under considering uncertainties and interactions among subunits on closed-loop stability condition. As a study case, an integrated plant which consists of two subunits connected via other process and some intermediate tanks under severe constraints while considering maximization economic performance is used to demonstrate feasibility and efficiency of this framework.

Abstract:A multivariable predictive functional control algorithm is presented,which is a branch of model predictive techniques family.It is deduced with the theory of predictive functional control and Smith predictor,and is the extension of single variable predictive functional control.A computer simulation case study for the control of Shell Oil's heavy oil fractionator is presented.The result displays that the presented multivariable predictive functional control algorithm is of better control performance than the single variable predictive functional control in the multivariable first order plus dead time system.

Abstract:For fast dynamic processes and non-square multivariable systems, a multivariable constrained fast dynamic matrix control (DMC) algorithm was presented. A two-layer architecture including dynamic and economic optimization induced an auto control structure transformation for non-square multivariable systems. The extra degrees of freedom could be utilized to calculate the optimal values of inputs when the basic control objects of outputs were met. The approach of coordinating the step response model with the parametric model was employed to improve output prediction and remove truncation error. The one-step control move was calculated by only optimizing one point in the future horizon for each output. Compared to the traditional DMC algorithm, the proposed algorithm greatly reduces the calculation burden and has better control performance, and it can be embedded in distributed control system (DCS). The effectiveness of the algorithm was validated by an industrial project and a simulated example.

Abstract:In this paper, the multi-rate multivariable system in which outputs measured are less frequently than inputs updated is studied. By lifting technique, the model predictive control for multi-rate multivariable integrating system is proposed. The controller is based on a state-space model in which the output is represented as a continuous function of time. Taking advantage of this particular model form, the cost functions is defined in terms of the integral of the output error along an infinite prediction horizon. The methods are verified by the application of the proposed approach to an integrating example.

Abstract:The model predictive control (MPC) strategy with input constraints may lead to infeasibility of the control algorithm in short term and degradation of the control performance. For the control of integrating processes, the system input constraints will be possible to come into conflict with the constraints caused by zeroing the integrating modes of the system at the end of the control horizon. In order to deal with this problem and increase the feasibility, the effect of setpoint on feasibility is studied for multivariable model predictive control of integrating processes in this paper. An improved algorithm is proposed by recalculating the setpoints according to the hard constraints before calculating the manipulated variable. The simulation results verify the efficiency and feasibility.

Abstract:This paper proposes a novel stabilizing decentralized model predictive control for nonlinear continuous systems.We extend the method proposed by [1] from nonlinear discrete time systems to nonlinear continuous systems. The key idea of this method is adding a contractive constraint to the optimal control problem of each subsystems.By adding the contractive constraint the whole system can be stabilizable within certain degree of interaction. The degree of the interaction is also represented by inequalities. Finally a numerical simulation is used to prove the effectiveness of the method and the method is also applied to a four-tank benchmark problem.

Abstract:The FCCU main fractionator dynamic model is built. Based on this model the multivariable constrained generalized predictive control strategy is carried out to maintain the product quality at desirable specifications. The cascade control structure is adopted to ensure the operation security. Finally, the closed loop control simulation shows it is effective, which gives a promising introduction to its future on line implementation.

Abstract:In this paper, a predictive control method based on DMC is developed for multirate multivariable systems. The intersample behavior is considered and the optimization is performed as soon as there is a new measured output. By using the technique of FIACS1 (Flexible Advanced Control Software), the effect of “thin” system met in this method can be eliminated. Simulation results indicate that the method is effective with zero steady-state error and the intersample behavior is not degraded. The closed-loop stability criteria are also derived in the Appendix.

Abstract:A model based multivariable coordinated control algorithm is presented to meet the complex requirements of industrial process. The control algorithm takes both the control performance of controlled variables and the Ideal Resting Values (IRV) of manipulated variables into consideration. In a system with more inputs than outputs the controller first makes every effort to drive the controlled variables to their setpoints, then if it is possible, makes some of the manipulated variables approach their IRV in economic consideration. For a system with less inputs than outputs, the controller enforces different control efforts to the controlled variables according to their economic importance. The condition for a unique solution, steady state property and stability of the controller are given in this paper, providing a theoretical guideline for the controller parameter tuning. A FCCU fractionator is introduced here as a case study, for which an multivariable control strategy is developed by using the coordinated algorithm. Simulated results demonstrated that the control algorithm presented possesses good control performances and practical significance.

Abstract:An improved method of synthesizing constrained robust model predictive controller for systems with polytopic description is proposed. It off-line constructs invariant sets guaranteeing the optimal performance cost for the worst-case, and on-line solves the min-max optimization problem with infinite horizon performance cost. Adopting the time varying terminal constraint set, the initial feasible region can be enlarged and better performance is also achieved. Simulation examples show the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Abstract:In this paper, an ultra-supercritical unit coordinated control strategy based on multi-model predictive control is proposed in light of the nonlinear characteristics of the ultra-supercritical unit. The strategy utilizes the nonlinear process (linear uncertain process) at multiple working points to divide the target workspace into several subspaces, a relatively accurate fixed model can be found in each subspace. Based on this, a global approximation model of complex object could be constructed as the predictive model by using weighted sub model. Then the output of predictive controller is calculated with linear or nonlinear optimization method. According to the simulation and application results, the control strategy as well as the algorithm is proved to be effective.

Abstract:We propose a multi-model coordinated predictive control algorithm under networked information mode for plant-wide operation nonlinear systems. When a large-scale switching occurs, we have adopted the gap metric theory to divide the operation space of the nonlinear system into local subspaces under different operation con-ditions. In each subspace, we have applied a local linear model to design an infinite-horizon predictive con-troller. To transfer the problem of state variables in different subspaces, we have assessed the influence of the predicted state transitions in subintervals on the control performance. The optimization of N-step horizon con-trol law sequences ( instead of a single feedback control law) reduces the conservativeness caused by ignoring subspaces transition in multi-model predictive control. We have applied the algorithm to the continuous stirred tank reactor, which is widely used in chemical processes. Our simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

Abstract:A two-stage multi-objective optimization model-predictive control algorithms(MPC) strategy is presented. A domain MPC controller with input constraints is used to increase freedom for steady-state objective and enhance stabilization of the controller. A steady-state objective optimization algorithm oriented to transient process is adopted to realize optimization of objectives else than dynamic control. It is proved that the stabilization for both dynamic control and steady-state objective optimization can be guaranteed. The theoretical results are demonstrated and discussed using a distillation tower as the model. Theoretical analysis and simulation results show that this control strategy is efficient and provides a good strategic solution to practical process control.

Abstract:A coordinated control strategy is often used to ensure a thermal power plant to have a higher rate of load change, but without violating the thermal constraints. Although model predictive control has been widely used for controlling power plant, handling input constraints is a major problem especially as these plants are nonlinear. Two alternative methods of exploiting the nonlinear predictive control are presented in this paper. One is the input-output feedback linearization technique based on a suitably chosen approximated linear model. The other is based on neuro-fuzzy networks to represent a nonlinear dynamic process using a set of local models. From the criteria based on the integral absolute errors and the relative optimization time for completing the simulation, it is shown that the performance of the coordinated control of a steam-boiler generation plant using these two nonlinear predictive methods are better than the conventional predictive method.

Nonlinear Analysis Hybrid Systems

Abstract:This work mainly addresses terminal constrained robust hybrid iterative learning model predictive control against time delay and uncertainties in a class of complex batch processes with input and output constraints. In this work, an equivalently novel extended two-dimensional switched system is first constructed to represent the process model by introducing state difference, output error and new relaxation variable information. Then, a hybrid predictive updating controller is proposed and an optimal performance index function including terminal constraints is designed. Under the condition that the switching signal meets certain conditions, the solvable problem of model predictive control is realized by Lyapunov stability theory. Meanwhile, the design scheme of controller parameters is also given. In addition, the robust constraint set is adopted to overcome the disadvantage that the traditional asymptotic stability cannot converge to the origin when it involves disturbances, such that the system state converges to the constraint set and meets its expected value. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is verified by controlling the speed and pressure parameters of the injection molding process.

Abstract:Adaptive motion, internal force, and external contact force control of multiple manipulators handling a constrained object is achieved. Parametric uncertainties may exist in the manipulator and in the object as well as in the friction coefficients of contact surfaces. A set of transformed dynamic equations are obtained in the joint space, in which internal force and external contact force have the same form and, thus, can be dealt with in the same way. Based on some particular properties of a reformulated motion and force equation, and adaptive algorithm is developed with unknown parameters updated by both motion and force tracking error. The controller guarantees asymptotic motion and force tracking without any persistent excitation condition and has a proportional-integral (PI) force feedback control structure with a low P-gain, so that acausality is avoided. Robustness to bounded velocity and force measurement noise as well as to disturbances of the controller is discussed

Abstract:Although barrier Lyapunov function (BLF)-based approaches simplify the handling process for state constraints, the feasibility conditions on virtual controllers considerably limit their application in practice. Therefore, to remove the feasibility conditions and achieve better results in industrial applications, in this paper, a novel control design is presented for two-order nonlinear systems subject to input and state constraints. Namely, a piecewise but continuously differentiable state-projection function that possesses two key properties is presented to address the state constraints. Based on this approach, a novel coordinate transformation is proposed to build a constrained adaptive robust controller. Since the control parameter of the virtual controller varies exponentially with the state-projection function, the feasibility condition can be essentially satisfied. As a result, tedious offline computations for feasibility verification can be avoided, which makes it possible to handle much tighter state constraint boundaries. Moreover, a smooth function and an auxiliary variable are employed to address the input constraint. The satisfaction of constraints and the stability of systems are rigorously proven in theory. Comparative simulations and experiments on a typical two-order linear motor system demonstrate that the proposed method has good adaptability under different state constraints and can achieve better control performance in practical systems.
