Abstract:Florfenicol production wastewater contains copper and ammonia-nitrogen, which results in inhibition to biological treatment process. Copper ammonia complex is stable in alkaline solution. This article studied the pretreatment methods to remove copper and ammonia-nitrogen from florfenicol production wastewater. Firstly, iron cementation using iron powder was selected to remove copper from wastewater containing copper and optimum reaction condition was studied. Optimum result is obtained at pH 2～3, molar Fe:Cu ratio 3 and stirring time 1.5 h. During the reaction, pH of the solution will increase as part of H+ is cost by Fe in the side reaction. Fe(III) is easily formed in high pH and will dissolve copper again. So acid must be added to keep the pH of solution below 4 in the reaction. In optimum reaction condition, copper concentration deduces from 712 mg/L to 9.2 mg/L and copper removal rate reaches 98.7%. Secondly, remove induced iron ion. Adjust, pH of the former pretreated wastewater to 5 and aeration. Then add anionic PAM with amount of 1 mg/L. After coagulation and sedimentation of 20min, the concentration of residual Fe decreases below 14 mg/L. Thirdly, mix the copper removed wastewater with the rest effluents. Magnesium ammonium phosphate precipitation process using MgCl2·6H2O and Na2HPO4·12H2O as settling agents was selected to remove ammonia-nitrogen of the mixed wastewater and optimum reaction condition was studied. Optimum result is obtained at pH 9.0, molar Mg2+:NH4+:PO43-ratio 1∶1∶1 and stirring time 20 min. In optimum reaction condition, the concentration of ammonia-nitrogen deduces from 991.5 mg/L to 101 mg/L and ammonia-nitrogen removal rate reaches 89.8%. The residue total phosphorus is 6.1mg/L. Iron cementation and magnesium ammonium phosphate precipitation process can remove copper and ammonia-nitrogen efficiently. After pretreatment, BOD5/CODCr value of the pharmaceutical wastewater increases from 0.07 to 0.34, which means biodegradability is increased and wastewater can be treated by biological process.
