Abstract:Wind tunnel tests were carried out on a series of high-rise single story factory models with different opening sizes and locations to investigate the influence of various opening condition on pressure distribution along internal and external surfaces of factory walls. Also, shape coefficients along the longitudinal wall were presented and compared with the one suggested by Chinese load code for the design of building structures. The test results show, for those single opening cases, external pressure distribution on the longitudinal wall is barely affected by opening. However, when both gables are open, wind pressure attenuates quickly along internal and external surfaces of longitudinal wall. Single opening will greatly increase peak wind pressure on longitudinal wall. Large suction is found at windward end range of longitudinal wall, which is called end effect in this paper. For single opening models, maximum suction on near opening end and the rest of longitudinal wall appear at wind azimuths of 0° and 15° respectively, while under both gable open situation, 45°and 135° wind direction produces the most unfavorable suction on two ends of longitudinal wall and the corresponding disadvantage wind angle for the other region of the wall is 150°. Among all the experimental models, factory with small single opening is the most dangerous case. Bents near windward wall bear the most disadvantage horizontal force in the case of both two gables opened.
