Abstract:This article shows that if a sequence of weak solutions of a perturbed biharmonic map satisfies Phi(k) -> 0 in (W-2,W-2)* and u(k) -> u weakly in W-2,W-2, then u is a biharmonic map. In particular, we show that the space of biharmonic maps is sequentially compact under the weak-W-2,W-2 topology.

Abstract:We characterize a nonlinear full invariant of compact Banach-space maps: Let ( X , ‖.‖) and ( Y , ‖.‖) be two Banach spaces and P C ( X , Y ) be all compact maps which map ( X , ‖.‖) to ( Y , ‖.‖). Then each weak operator-topology subseries-convergent series ∑ i P i in P c ( X , Y ) is also uniform-topology subseries-convergent iff each bounded map from ( X , ‖.‖) to ( l 1 , ‖.‖ 1 ) is a compact map. The necessary condition for each weak operator-topology subseries-convergent series ∑ i P i in P C ( X , Y ) to be also uniform-topology subseries-convergent is that ( X , ‖.‖) and ( X ′, ‖.‖) both contain no copy of c 0 . This necessary condition is not sufficient.

Abstract:In this paper, we generalize the Bochner-Kodaira formulas to the case of Hermitian complex (possibly non-holomorphic) vector bundles over compact Hermitian (possibly non-Kähler) manifolds. As applications, we get the complex analyticity of harmonic maps between compact Hermitian manifolds.

Abstract:We consider triholomorphic maps u from an almost hyper-Hermitian manifold M-4m into a (simply connected) hyperKahler manifold N-4n . This entails that the map u is an element of W-1,W-2 satisfies a quaternionic del-bar equation. We work under the assumption that u is locally strongly approximable in W-1,W-2 by smooth maps; such maps are almost stationary harmonic in a suitable sense (in the important special case that M is hyperKahler as well, they are stationary harmonic). We show, by means of the bmo-h(1) duality, that in this more general situation the classical epsilon-regularity result still holds and we establish the validity, for triholomorphic maps, of the W-2,W-1-conjecture (i.e. an a priori W-2,W-1-estimate in terms of the energy). We then address compactness issues for a weakly converging sequence u(l) -> u(infinity) of strongly approximable triholomorphic maps u(l) : M -> N with uniformly bounded Dirichlet energies. The blow-up analysis leads, as in the usual stationary setting, to the existence of a rectifiable blow-up set Sigma of codimension 2, away from which the sequence converges strongly. The defect measure Theta (x)H4m-2 left perpendicular Sigma encodes the loss of energy in the limit and we prove that for a.e. point on Sigma the value of Theta is given by the sum of the energies of a (finite) number of smooth non-constant holomorphic bubbles (here the holomorphy is understood with respect to a complex structure on N that depends on the chosen point on Sigma). When M is hyperKahler this quantization result was established by C. Y. Wang [41] with a different proof; our arguments rely on Lorentz spaces estimates. By means of a calibration argument and a homological argument we further prove that whenever the restriction of Sigma to an open ball B subset of M \ Sing(u infinity) is covered by a connected (4m - 2)-dimensional Lipschitz graph, then actually Sigma boolean AND B is a smooth submanifold and it is pseudo-holomorphic for a (unique) almost complex structure on M (with Theta constant on this portion); moreover the bubbles originating at points of Sigma boolean AND B are all holomorphic for a common complex structure on N.
Weak compactness and fixed point property for affine bi-Lipschitz maps

Abstract:Let $X$ be a Banach space and let $C$ be a closed convex bounded subset of $X$. It is proved that $C$ is weakly compact if, and only if, $C$ has the {it generic} fixed point property ($\mathcal{G}$-FPP) for the class of $L$-bi-Lipschitz affine mappings for every $L>1$. It is also proved that if $X$ has Pełczyński's property $(u)$, then either $C$ is weakly compact, contains an $\ell_1$-sequence or a $\mathrm{c}_0$-summing basic sequence. In this case, weak compactness of $C$ is equivalent to the $\mathcal{G}$-FPP for the strengthened class of affine mappings that are uniformly bi-Lipschitz. We also introduce a generalized form of property $(u)$, called {it property $(\mathfrak{su})$}, and use it to prove that if $X$ has property $(\mathfrak{su})$ then either $C$ is weakly compact or contains a wide-$(s)$ sequence which is uniformly shift equivalent. In this case, weak compactness in such spaces can also be characterized in terms of the $\mathcal{G}$-FPP for affine uniformly bi-Lipschitz mappings. It is also proved that every Banach space with a spreading basis has property $(\mathfrak{su})$, thus property $(\mathfrak{su})$ is stronger than property $(u)$. These results yield a significant strengthening of an important theorem of Benavides, Japón-Pineda and Prus published in 2004.

Abstract: For a sequence of extrinsic or intrinsic biharmonic maps $u_j: M_j\rightarrow N$ from a sequence of non-collapsed degenerating closed Einstein 4-manifolds $(M_j,g_j)$ with bounded Einstein constants, bounded diameters and bounded $L^2$ curvature energy into a compact Riemannian manifold $(N,h)$ with uniformly bounded biharmonic energy, we establish a compactness theory modular finitely many bubbles, which are finite energy biharmonic maps from $\mathbb{R}^4$, or from $\mathbb{R}^4 / \Gamma$ for some nontrivial finite group $\Gamma \subset SO(4)$, or from some complete, noncompact, Ricci flat, non-flat ALE 4-manifold (orbifold). To achieve this, we develop a sophisticated asymptotic analysis for solutions over degenerating neck regions.

Abstract:Let [Formula: see text] be a linear dynamical system, where [Formula: see text] is a separable Banach space and [Formula: see text] is a bounded linear operator. We show that if [Formula: see text] is invertible, then [Formula: see text] is weakly sensitive compact if and only if [Formula: see text] is thickly weakly sensitive compact; and that there exists a system [Formula: see text] such that: (1) [Formula: see text] is cofinitely weakly sensitive compact; (2) [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] are weakly sensitive compact; and (3) [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] are not syndetically weakly sensitive compact. We also show that if [Formula: see text] is weakly sensitive compact, where [Formula: see text] is a complex Banach space, then the spectrum of [Formula: see text] meets the unit circle.

Abstract:In dimension two or three, the weak maximum principal for biharmonic equation is valid in any bounded Lipschitz domains. In higher dimensions (greater than three), it was only known that the weak maximum principle holds in convex domains or $C^1$ domains, and may fail in general Lipschitz domains. In this paper, we prove the weak maximum principle in higher dimensions in quasiconvex Lipschitz domains, which is a sharp condition in some sense and recovers both convex and $C^1$ domains.

Jiang studied biharmonic maps between Riemannian manifolds as critical points of the bienergy functional, and proved that biharmonic maps $\varphi$ are characterized by vanishing of bitension $\tau_{2}$ of $\varphi$. During last three decades there has been a growing interest in the theory of biharmonic submanifolds and biharmonic maps.

Abstract:In this paper we establish a variant and generalized weak linking theorem, which contains more delicate result and insures the existence of bounded Palais-Smale sequences of a strongly indefinite functional. The abstract result will be used to study the semilinear Schrodinger equation -Deltau + V (x) u = K(x)\u\(2*-2)u + g(x, u), u is an element of W-1,W-2(R-N), where N greater than or equal to 4; V, K, g are periodic in x(j) for 1 less than or equal to j less than or equal to N and 0 is in a gap of the spectrum of -Delta + V; K > 0. If 0 < g(x, u)u &LE; c\u\(2)* for an appropriate constant c, we show that this equation has a nontrivial solution.
